 When I was looking around for a starter for my YSB 8, I found some possible replacements on Ebay, but when quoted model Nos to Cellar Marine, I think,They told me the starter has to have a special oil seal to prevent oil from the flywheel (which is normal)getting on to the brushes etc. So it seems it is designed to wash in oil. I could be wrong so check it out before doing anything drastic. Ended up getting starter rebuilt.
