Subject: T500 & Yanmar 8 hp: engine cut-off

I became the proud owner of a Trapper 500, "Banzai", build in 1978. She has a Yanmar 8hp engine. When I pull the gas handle completely backwards, the engine stops.
Can anyone tell me if this is normal or is there something wrong with my boat/engine/throttle?
Regards,
Erwin
