Giles,
I saw that bit of kit and I am also very interested. I have raised my mast twice and decided that was enough as I managed to crack the foot the last time. The mast twisted as something got caught and that was game over. I know there are many articles about this not just for the trappers and I know decided that I would get the marina to errect it but this is quite an expense. The principle of the A fram is sound but like all things new I have my doubts. (Im the sort of person who would still have a sextant. and a bit of strings with a lead weight on 1 end)
I dont know about the keel winch on the roof but I have the hydraulic system and am very happy with it. just service the pump and replace the seals in the pump and ram if possible. My concern is the condition of the hose inbetween. there is a device that goes in-line at the ram end which, (God forbid) the hose splits , doesnt allow the keel to go hurtling down the case it is a regulating valve. I am trying to source one at the moment. I have been quoted anything from £25.00 to £100. but again, becouse of the huge price difference Im not sure who is going to sell me the correct thing. The other thing to check is the cable system and pulleys as mine where all seized causing big friction. good old WD40 soon solved it. Check for brocken cable strands as Mine is stainless steel so not ideal for going over pulleys.
If you look back through the archives this subject has come up quite a number of times.
Any one got any ideas on how to make the weather warm up as I have to re epoxy my water line after grinding out due to solvent entrappment and I need it a tad warmer.
Kim
