An update on this - I was there when Niall's father dropped the rudder on their 501 yesterday - it was immediately obvious that the shaft was bent. This was probably caused by the boat grounding out in a swell and landing on the back edge of the rudder (we keep our boats on fore-and-aft moorings in Bray). So now - what do you 'fix' a bent shaft? Or do you replace it?
