Stainless steel is particularly prone to crevice corrosion, a nasty galvanic reaction that can lead to failure at the nut thread interface. Something that caused a lot of grief on North Sea Oil rigs when they were first put there.

However it is the metal of choice for most keel bolts.

my understanding of the design of a keel bolt is that it isn't a bolt at all but a stud.

They should be able to be drawn by putting a second nut on them and winding the lower nut up to meet the top nut.

That said I wasn't convinced there was enough thread exposed on Securus to make this a possibility.
