Hi Tim,

By the time I saw this you may already have solved the problem finding bolts. I have just replaced the keel top section on my boat and needed to get new bolts. They are a whitworth thread and can be got for around 90p in a good fixings merchant or there are on-line marine suppliers try seascrew.com. I had to settle for A2 grade as nobody could find A4 12mm whitworth any where.

Hate to tell you but it might help others but Ken Nevard of Catfield in Norfolk has made several of these boxes and made mine in stainless for £300.

I have it in mind to put full details and photo's on the web soon. This is the second time I have replaced the box as I did it back in 98 witha glavanised replacement. It started to jam down in 2004 season as I found out due to spindle of rear top box rollers being bent allowing keel to swing forward out of alignment.

The box was still 99% OK just a pinprick breakdown in the galvanising in one place after 5 seasons but I know how fast mooring chain goes once the galvanising breaks down. This job is a hassle anyway so having done half of it just to find the problem I figured it was worth the cost of going to Ken just for peace of mind. It does mean I have a spare almost perfect galvanised box if anybody would care to come to Bromley to collect it. It is heavy I probably erred on the cautionary side when it was made up. Could it be regalvanised I don't know. I also have the bolts come to think of it as I needed shorter set screws as my new box has a lighter bottom section and the orginal bolts hit bottom before becoming 100% tight. jonathan@azurian.co.uk 020 8467 1576
