Nick,

Ahh, yes, now I see it in the manual (RTFM) - "tiller brackets", they're ugly beasties, aren't they? For the T500 I'd need a big one and can't see how I "could still arrange it so that the nipple to which the piston attaches isn't exposed", the whole bracket would have to protrude high on the top side of the tiller and it's that which would get in the way. Better to build a new tiller that curves steeply up immediately from the rudder stock so that seat height is achieved further aft.

One would then lose just about the only advantage of that great long tiller - that sweeps the cockpit and has the crew leaping about avoiding it when tacking - which is to give the helmsperson (usually me) shelter behind the cabin bulkhead when the spray is flying.

No, I didn't mean to use it anyway other than horizontal, just to crank up the tiller (which is tightened hard on the rudder stock to give enough friction) having the pin meet the pushrod at, say, 45 degrees when the pushrod is horizontal. The rod would then have to rotate for the hole to lock onto the pin - would it stay in place, I'm wondering? I know, a short piece of shockcord to bind them together - how about that?

Best,

Brian.
