At £500 for the prop I'd have thought the biggest mistake might be buying it but I suppose it's really down to how much you use the boat and how long you intend to keep it.

I've done around 5000 miles in ours now, I can't say I've ever really been aware that I was missing out by not having a folding prop.

As well as the whip on the shaft you should consider the effect that might have on the P bracket itself. It's a bit like a stanchion base, ie not much grip on the boat if there is a substanial turning moment on it.
