Subject: Has anyone heard about someone puting together a "spec" head deal together for next year? Or is it strictly a rumour? Still trying to figure out what to do next year. Gary

[> Gary, I was contacted about the possibility of a spec head and/or a spec engine program for the TPSA. Personally I think it is a viable option to develop a program for the future but I'm not the man for that job. Jeff Mitchell has tried to get some input and hasn't had much success in getting people to respond to his questions. In my opinion, you need a minimum of eight committed teams to implement a new program.... not 8 that want to be there, or intend to be there, or really try to be there.... but 8 that can and will be at EVERY race. It's hard to get any committments with the current economy, etc. and it doesn't seem that a firm 8 is doable at this time. A bunch of us have stuff sittin' in the shop and want to race but the fact is racing TPSA spoiled us... hard to go index, bracket, or top sportsman after what we became accustomed to the past few years! -- DH, 07/31/12 10:37pm

[> You hit the nail on the head David. I heard that Slick Rick fella wont even go to the racetrack anymore. Heard him tell someone "without TPSA, there's no reason to go to the track" -- LOL, 08/ 2/12 6:49pm

[> Two thoughts from me, one a spec head/spec intake program which means we all by the same head and intake combo to seek parity, requires a solid commitment to purchase what would likely be new induction system around $10-$14k. Or another wild as idea is we go to an absolute spec engine like the crate 572 rated at the same HP maybe around 700 plus a single 100 shot. makes a bunch of cars very competitive, research says that is a $13,000 or so sollution. would require we run slower maybe the 4.90 to 5.10 range but could make a tight group of cars (good show, more cars )Either would be a way to run 2013 as a heads up pro tree elimanator keeping cost down, you could still use your rides with other combos if we to the spec crate motor, run a schedule of 8 races with points and such. Need at least 8 guys to buy in toit either way, I would run the points and deal with the tracks and race some sponsor money. anyone have any thoughts................... -- Mitchell, 08/ 3/12 12:50pm

I think the original rules will work but the heads must be stock out the box cnc or port work only and not totally reworked with valves moved and angle milled 2 degrees. And maybe run a spec cam so everyone has the same and you can still use most of the parts we still have now.I think it will make for some good close racing and not be to bad on the wallet.

i guess that know is the time to do something with the rules.i thing that everyone should run the same heads to make class more affordable. all fast guys are doing something else so it will not effect them

[> guys from my point of view, getting to something that MOST racers can buy into for a reasonable amount of dough is the only way we can count on putting this thing back together for 2013-2014, that said a phase in of induction restrictions and ultimatly something like a spec short block is the best way to get there. If no one else wants the job of running the show, I will take it on, but we have to get to a page that the masses can play by. there remains alot of good hot rods that want to run true heads up, we need those racers to see a way to get in with this program, car count is still the only way to keep something going, sorry, that is a fact, without it, you are racing at the bracket or index show..... You have to make this change cut deep enough into the core of the engine that we do not have to re visit it. If we draw a box, all those that want to race will stay in it, those that do not wont, . -- mitchell, 08/12/12 10:31pm
