I just got off the phone with Sammy at Dallas Raceway and he said the local weather for tomorrow is calling for a high of 72*, with a 40% chance of rain forecasted for late afternoon/early evening. Gates open @ 11am and they'll run 'till dark. Sammy also invited any of the TPSA teams present to the track Banquet that will be held (inside) at the track after the race day concludes. Live band, food & drink, and some bench racing will be on the menu. Sounds like a good way to spend a Saturday in January!
Rumor has it there will be a group of TPSA stars testing a Crandall this weekend. Weatherman says conditions will be GREAT if the rain holds off. Expecting some solid 50's... Wish I was gonna' be there. Can't wait for Mar.5th. See ya'. -- Boss Hog (Waitin' and'a Hopin'), 01/28/11 10:09am

The Phat Ford Motorsports/Bluff Creek Speed Authority Entry, sponsored by Andeler Power, welcomed the guests outside the main entrance
Andeler Power's President, Sam Holton, and Operations Manager, Marci Irvine, were on hand to enjoy the festivities, and answer questions regarding conversions
-- Pit Pundit... on assignment from the "Watering Hole", 01/13/11 10:34pm
The 2010 Championship Banquet was a sold out affair, and a fitting end to the 2010 TPSA Season. Special guests included Sam Holton and Marci Irvine of Andeler Power, sponsors Tommy and Cindy Costales of Houston Engine & Balancing, and Gary Lidiak of Lidiak Motorsports. TCI & Stanley Poff awarded gift certificates to the Champ and runner up, and our thanks to 2010 sponsors Brink Racecraft, The Fab Shop, Bumbera's Performance, Reher-Morrison, Rutland Transmission, Eddie Hollon, and Andeler Power for supporting the Banquet.
Speaking of Andeler Power, in association with Bluff Creek Speed Authority, a new class is in the works for 2011. The concept was announced at the Banquet, and while it's a work in progress, the basics are to provide a place within the TPSA format for a smaller team to utilize readily available parts, with fewer resources required for crewmembers, and R&D, and a less intense maintenance schedule. Most of the existing rules will dovetail with the new class, but more stringent controls will be in place regarding the hardware permitted. Provisions will be in place to insure a level playing field for the competitors. More details soon.
Of course the the folks that have rewritten the conventional head, N/A record books, and received national attention, will be back doing battle with their ultimate combinations, personnel, and cutting edge technology. Joe & Roy Pigford, Richard Otwell, Team Talley/Nickens, Team Cowger/Wood, and Larry Pearce will be joined in the Texas Pro Stock XTREME ranks by DH, Rick Hanson, Lance Abbott, and Clint Crownover. At this time Team Phat Ford, Aaron Hubbard, Donald Hughes, Randy Elliott, Team Robinson/Wilkerson, and a couple of others are gearing up for an assault on the Texas Pro Stock division. Should be some awesome on track action with very close pairings and tight finishes.
A special thanks to Rick Hanson for his work in putting the Banquet details together once again. Thanks to all of the teams and everyone that came out for the Banquet and for making the 2010 Season the best yet! You missed a good time if you weren't there. The pictures below tell at least part of the story!

Headers -- Winscott, 11/11/10 8:17am
I know this is a weird post, but I have misplaced a set of Dynatek headers. Eddie and I can not remember if we may have loaned them to someone,or if they may have been "borrowed" from the trailer at the HMP race in the summer. They are 2 1/4-2 3/8 coated, with Dynatek merge collectors. Each tube has two (2) egt bungs. If anyone has information please let me know. I cannot race without them. My cell is 979-709-9993. Thanks, Gary

Team "O" Motorsports Testing for 2011 -- For Immediate Release, 10/29/10 9:11pm
Friday October 29th, 2010 - Team "O" takes the GXP to Dallas Raceway at Crandall, Texas for two days of testing. "We are testing a few new things for 2011 and have already had excellent results this evening", said Jeff Owen. "We had some idea's toward the end of the TPSA season, but didn't want to make to many set up changes as we were locked in a tight battle for the championship", said Owen. "Now, we are putting our idea's on the race track and getting positive results". We will be testing as often as we can leading up to the 2011 TPSA Season.
The 2010 Season is in the books and Joe "Boss Hog" Pigford is the Champion for the third time. Congrats to him, and to all of the TPSA teams, crew, and families that made this year an exciting one... right down to the last race of the year. Richard Otwell gave it a valiant effort and came up just short in his bid for a TPSA Championship, but says 2011 is another year for Team O.
Kudo's to Fred, the staff & crew @ Evadale for another excellent racing surface that handled everthing the contenders could throw at it, and to Mike Bruce and the Bruce family for allowing the TPSA to be part of their 2010 program. Much more later when the Pundit recovers from a thrilling ending to the season....
Hey DH since the Season just ended do u think it’s possible to schedule around the 2011 ADRL schedule? And Baytown Nationals? (April 29-May 1) -- Johnny, 10/26/10 6:05pm
[ Post a Reply to this Message ][ Edit | View ]
Only one race remained in what had been an exciting season with a very close points battle, and several teams had gone all in preparing for the final race to determine the 2010 Champ, and the final points standings. To have a great closing event required a Championship caliber racing surface, and to entertain the fans, some controversy, intrigue, suspense, and of course, close side by side racing… a TPSA trademark, was necessary. Fred and his crew @ Evadale started prepping the track on Monday, and by Thursday evening declared it to be race ready. By the time the teams started arriving on Friday, the track was obviously in premier condition, and the pride Fred puts into his track prep cannot be overstated. Now it was up to the teams to provide the other elements.
Friday’s weather conditions were pleasant enough, temp in the mid 80’s with a sometime gusting southerly breeze, but with a low barometer and high humidity, record setting performances seemed unlikely . Most of the teams took advantage of the open TT’s prior to official qualifying, and the top half of the field looked to be very evenly matched. The Platt/Hughes Team made their debut with the beautiful ’63 Corvette and ran some impressive numbers on a shake down pass, but a problem with the front tire clearance on the brand new ride would prevent them from entering eliminations.
After qualifying was complete, Joe Pigford was #1 @ 4.602 151.92. Richard Otwell @ 4.619 150.75, Roy Pigford @ 4.622 150.05, defending Champ Larry Pearce @ 4.6414 150.55, Rick Cowger @ 4.6416 150.20, and Budman Nickens @ 4.642 150.60 were bunched together and Aaron Hubbard, Junior Wilkerson, and Randy Elliott rounded out the field.
1st round… The random draw always sparks a good debate, but it’s a TPSA tradition and provides some very interesting pairings. The first pair to roll under the stands was Roy Pigford and the Talley/Nickens team Camaro. Major points implications with the first pair as Roy could pass Budman with a good showing here, and every team that Roy could take out would make it easier on brother Joe’s Championship run. Both cars staged, tree flashes, great rt’s in both lanes, looks very close at the stripe, but Roy’s 4.63 (.417 rt) would stop Budman’s 4.65 (.409 rt) to end the Talley/Nickens nite, and their 2010 season. The Talley/Nickens team made big strides through the year, winning one race and one runner up, and they will be presented the #3 award at the Banquet. 2nd pair and current points leader, J. Pig would face the New Guys, Robinson & Wilkerson. The “Boss Hog” would move on with another 4.60 @ 151.87. This was the first season for the Robinson/Wilkerson Team who will claim the #8 spot, and rumors have them stepping up in the hp department for next year. 3rd pair would feature team mates, and current #2, Richard Otwell and Rick Cowger in the Cowger/Wood entry. Remember, the fans want some intrigue and controversy and this pair might provide it. Would team orders be in effect as they had watched Joe win already and Otwell had to win to keep pace? They roll through the puddle and go through the staging ritual. Everything looks normal until Rick goes to stage and rolls through the first beam and nearly through the second beam. The tree comes down, the red’s on in Cowger’s lane and Otwell’s 4.62 will move into the 2nd round uncontested. Back in the pits, the report was the button didn’t hold on the C&W ride. Cowger now had no chance to catch the Talley/Nickens team for 3rd in the standings, and would finish in the # 4 spot for the year with three runner ups to their credit. Back at the burnout box, Aaron Hubbard is ready to get it on with Randy Elliott. Vette’s a pair on the line, engines on the chip, Aaron with a slight rt advantage and would move on into round 2. Randy’s main bullet has been down all year but he has continued to support the TPSA by bringing his car out and helping at the scales when necessary. Thanks Randy! Back to the race, defending Champ Larry Pearce drew the bye and would insure an even field for the next round with two Team Pigford cars with Reher-Morrison power, and two Team O, NRC/Slick Rick rides. Hubbard’s Houston Engine & Balancing entry is neutral in the team wars, and could only be cast in the spoilers role.
2nd Round…Here we go, the tension’s building. For Otwell to catch Pig for the Championship he’s got to go to the final, and Pig has to lose this round. The drawings done, and the first pair out is Joe Pigford and Richard Otwell! This is it, the season for both teams. Otwell must win and go to the final… a “Boss Hog” win here seals the deal for 2010 and he’s a 3x TPSA Champ. The fans are on the fence, the announcer is making sure everyone on the property knows what’s fixin’ to happen, and both teams have heavy support on the starting line. Routine burnouts and pre stage procedures by both and they approach the beams. They’re both in, motors on high C, tree comes down, both out cleanly and looks like Richard’s first to the ’60 foot cone but here comes Pig, very close @ 500 ft, too close to call….win lite Joe Pigford! Margin of Victory .0036! Pig’s numbers .4228 rt, 4.6093 to an oh so close .4183, 4.6174 for Otwell. Tremendous race and a great year for Team O & Richard Otwell as they overcame some early season trouble to make a serious run at the Championship. He won three races, had one runner up, and will finish as # 2 for 2010. Next pair saw the remaining Team O, NRC/Slick Rick car of the defending Champ, Larry Pearce roll out. His opponent would be A. Hubbard in Ol’ Blue. The fans had been treated to some suspense, intrigue, and some great racing already, but this was the last chance for them to see a major upset. With Pearce’s clear performance advantage that wasn’t likely, but this is drag racing. Pearce is staged first, Hub follows him in, and is first away from the line with a big jump! Half track and Hubbard’s still ahead and got a chance, but Pearce’s power is making the gap smaller..and quickly. At the stripe, the win lite glows in Hubbard’s lane, and he’ll move on. Even though Pearce won one race this year, it’s been a very frustrating year, and he finishes # 7 in the points. Look for a big rebound from the ’09 Champ next year. Meanwhile, Roy Pigford, makes a clean 4.62 hit to mosey on to the semi’s.
Semi’s… Newly crowned Champ, Joe Pigford, draws the bye which means an all Pig final is likely between the two brothers, but a full moon is shining brightly and Hubbard will give it all he’s got in his match with Roy. Back in the lanes Roy and Aaron are given the signal to fire ‘em up, and Hub’s Vette rolls toward the water. Roy’s headlites are on but the car isn’t moving. Aaron is waiting in the water box, but when Roy’s car won’t fire, Hub's sent on a competition bye. Hubbard completes the run and will face Joe in the final. The problem with Roy’s car was found to be a starter drive that wouldn’t engage. Roy won one race this year and will finish #5.
Finals…Both Pigford and Hubbard had turned on the redlite in the semi’s, but everyone knew with the performance advantage Joe enjoyed he would have the “box” on with plenty to cover it. Hubbard on the other hand, had been on the tree all nite and the smart money figured he’d take a whack at the tree now as well. Hubbard was also trying to keep his streak alive of winning at least one race in each of the TPSA seasons he’s competed in. Both cars stage without any drama, Hubbard’s Vette out first…but the red lite is left hangin’ and 2010 Champ Joe Pigford wins for the 5th time this year. This was Aaron's lone final round appearance of the year, and he ends up #6.
Congratulations to Joe and the “Pig Pen” for an outstanding year and a tremendous effort. Thanks to all of the TPSA teams for providing a sensational season with many twists and turns along the way, with plenty of drama, and a points battle that kept us on the edge of our seat. Great job by all of the guys.
So to recap, the fans wanted suspense, intrigue, controversy, close racing, and maybe an upset…they got all of that and more. The racers wanted a superior racing surface so that performance would determine the outcome of the race, and Fred and his crew delivered that in spades. Thanks to Mike Bruce and the Bruce family, Fred & his track crew, the staff @ Evadale, and of course, the devoted East Texas fans! See you back here in 2011!
The penultimate round of the 2010 TPSA Season on October 9th was also the last race of our season @ HMP. There was no hype needed or necessary to provoke interest in this race, as five teams were still very much alive in the Championship chase.
Many of the teams started arriving Friday nite to set up camp and get a couple of hits in before the main event. Encampments might be a better word as Team O members Otwell, Cowger, Pearce, and Ashe, staked their claim on a piece of real estate and circled the wagons in preparation for the war that was sure to take place on Saturday. Not to be out done, Joe and Roy Pigford set up the “PigPen” compound in a vantage point not far from Team O while Team Talley/Nickens, flying without a wingman or blockers, set up base camp closer to the staging lanes. AD Rigmaiden was out with his sharp David Bowie Firebird, Elliott was there in his Vette, and Aaron Hubbard rounded out the ten car field.
After both rounds of qualifying were completed, Joe Pigford’s 4.608 @ 151.01 topped Richard Otwell’s 4.623 @ 150.55, Larry Pearce’s 4.625 @ 150.96, Roy Pigford’s 4.651 @ 150.25, and the “Budman” Buddy Nickens rounded out the top half with a 4.656 @ 147.75.
1st Round…The first pair would feature Otwell, currently #2 in points, against the Randy Elliott driven ‘Vette. Team O would move on with a 4.615 to end Elliott’s nite. Second pair rolled out and it would be AJ Ashe vs Aaron Hubbard. Team O had put the Worley Grand Am together with a spare bullet and picked AJ to guest shoe it. Hubbard has been having handling issues with ‘Ol Blue lately and AJ’s 4.696 easily went to round 2. The third pair had major point implications as Roy Pigford would match up with Buddy Nickens. They rolled through the puddle, stabbed the pedal, and made ‘em sing like songbirds! Lots of sparks under the Pigford car during the long burnout, and Roy shut ‘er off and was pushed back. The Talley/Nickens ride got a competition bye and punched their ticket to the next round. Back in the pits, a flywheel malfunction was found to have been the culprit in the R Pigford dilemma. Points implications all around as Joe Pigford drew Rick Cowger in the next contest. The Cowger/Wood team was #4 in points and if they could take out #1 “Boss Hog” in the first round it would help them and their Team O, NRC/Slick Rick teammates. J Pigford was up to the task, and after nearly identical rt’s, the “Boss Hog” posted a winning 4.61 to Rick’s 4.69. Current TPSA Champion Larry Pearce drew the bye and lit up the board with a 4.62.
2nd Round…1st pair and teammates Ashe and Pearce would face off. No Championship points involved here, so the railbirds expected to see a drag race and they weren’t disappointed. AJ out first with a .415rt, but Larry’s .440rt, 4.61 would easily drive around Ashe’s 4.70. A major swing in points awaited the victor of the Otwell, Nickens pair which was next to stage. Richard’s driving has been much improved this year, and the “Budman’s” expertise behind the wheel is legendary in the NHRA Comp Eliminator ranks. Otwell had a performance advantage on paper but Nickens could make it close with a great lite. Burnouts and staging completed without issue, the engines are on the chip, Otwell out first with a big advantage and posts a 4.61 to advance. Buddy clicked it early and we were left to wonder if there was a malfunction, or did he just “miss” the tree? Happens to the best of ‘em at times. Joe Pigford drew the bye and posted a 4.60 to move into the semi’s.
Semi’s…Two NRC/Ricky McConethy powered teammates against the Reher-Morrison/Darin Morgan combination of the “Boss Hog”. All of the cars had run within .01 of each other the round before and the fans should see some very close racing. If the teammates drew each other would there be team orders?… opinions in the pits had the odds about 50/50, but the question would remain unanswered as Pearce drew the bye. This meant #1 Pigford would square off with his main challenger, and #2 in points, Otwell. As noted earlier, Otwell is a prime candidate for Most Improved Driver this year, but Pig had run low et, 4.603, of the event in the previous round, and top mph, 151.31, back in the 1st qualifier. Preparations complete, the cars stage, tree’s green, and Pig’s out first! Otwell’s 4.62 could not reel in the 4.607(0) that Billy and the crew had put together for Pigford, and Joe would be in the final. Meanwhile, Pearce ran a 4.607(9) of his own that removed any doubt about how close these cars are matched. Pearce has had a terrible year where everything that could go wrong has, but this event seemed to be a turning point for him. Slick Rick/NRC, Team O, Lump, Danny Leibham, and the crew had Larry’s performance back on track, and he’s plenty capable behind the wheel so an exciting final was guaranteed.
Finals…The fans are on the rail for this one, as are the racers from all of the various classes. Two beautiful GXP’s roll though the lanes and thunder through the burnout. Crews back ‘em up, line ‘em up, double check the wheelie bar settings, arm the data logger and step back. Staging is completed without any drama… it’s up to the “shoe’s” now! Tree flashes green in both lanes, looks like Pearce has the edge, but the “Boss Hog” is making a serious top end charge. Win lite Pearce, and the numbers show a holeshot victory, 4.61 to a loosing 4.59 @ 151.31 (low et of the event, top mph) for Pigford. Larry also claimed the Team O “Bounty Hunter” Award with this win over Pig. Joe pads his points lead with one race remaining on the schedule, but Otwell still has a chance at the Championship. The two scenarios are: An Otwell win and a 1st or 2nd loss by Pigford; or, an Otwell runner up and a 1st round loss by Pig at the Season Finale. The other contenders have been mathematically eliminated from the Title, but there’s still plenty of movement possible in the top five.
This was our final event for 2010 @ HMP and our thanks to John Mandabach, Dean, Graham & the entire Baker family, the staff, and of course the fans, for another outstanding year of racing at Houston Motorsports Park. We are pleased to announce that HMP is including the TPSA as part of their 2011 program, and three dates have been selected. Mark your calendars now!
June 4th
August 13th
October 8th
All of the TPSA teams thank HMP for providing us a great venue to play at, their hospitality, and continuing support.
Thanks again to Lidiak Motorsports, Gary, and his family, for manning the scales and keeping things in order. Also want to tip the cap to Bob Mungle and Sammy Mahan for the expert and entertaining announcing at our HMP events, and to all of the TPSA teams and family that make it all possible!
Weather's lookin' good...time to get those hotrods loaded for the last shootout of 2010. Fred's been working on the track all week and says it's in Championship shape. The TPSA can park tonite, or get in anytime tomorrow. Gates officially open @ 2pm, with open time trials @ 4pm. Tomcat & Hughes are scheduled to make their TPSA debut, the New Guys say they can't miss a race in their back yard, and all of the regular "outlaws" will be there. Nickens plans to be a spoiler, AJ's a designated shooter, and all of the underdogs get one more chance at taking the big dog's down. Throw in the war for the Championship, the rivalry between the Pig's and Team O, and it's sure to be an event you don't want to miss. Come on out to Evadale saturday, support your favorite team, and be there when we crown the new Champ.
What,s up????? -- Nickens/Talley, 10/17/10 10:15am
Well it's Sunday am. Nothing to read on the web site so what about an up date? Joe Pig is freshening up at Rher and Morrison. Roy is trying to decide which bullet to put in and which manifold to run. Richard and NRC are dynoing the new bullet for Richard. Bud man is freshening up the engine at Nickens Bros.for the last race. Geezzzzz $1000 for rings alone. Oh well maybe a sponsor will happen by. Looks like every one wants to make a good showing at the last race. Haven't heard about any of the other teams. Slick Rick says the new Dart heads look promiseing. Ro and the pig should be a great ending battle. Joe fresh and Ro maybe with a new bullet. Larry Pierce should be good with his last showing he's right on.Oh well that's all I have heard. Some one chime in and report.
WTB -- Bob G, 10/15/10 10:45pm
Anyone have a Lexan molded rear window for an 82-92 Camaro / Firebird? Post or email bgulitti@aol.com if you have one laying around. Thanks!
HMP -- Mark Bramhall (Happy), 10/13/10 4:48pm
Well, I let my fingers get ahead of my mind. lol I wanted to congratulate Larry for his win, and Roy for his runner up finish. Good job guys.
Current Points Leader & Runner Up... Joe Pigford & crew
Morgan handled the drawings for us this week. She's flanked by her dad (left), and Richard Otwell.
Another terrific event is in the books! Thanks to John, Dean, Graham and the entire Baker family, the staff @ HMP, and all of the fans that came out. This was our last event of the 2010 season @ HMP and we will be part of their 2011 program with three dates to be announced shortly. Watch for the Pundit's report and all of the details soon.... -- ., 10/10/10 10:24pm

HMP -- budman, 10/10/10 11:06am
congrates to team Pearce on the win @ HMP last night good final Rd. looks like Joe is back also nice R/U finish
Only two races remain in the TPSA Season, and there will be only one team crowned as Champion at the 2010 Banquet. Coming in to this pivotal race, Joe Pigford has a slim 21 point lead over Richard Otwell, and Buddy Nickens, Rick Cowger, and Roy Pigford all stand a mathematical chance to take it way from the "Boss Hog". The weather forecast promises some outstanding conditions, and you know Dean and the staff @ HMP will have the track surface ready for anything the teams can throw at it. Who will step up, who will step down, who will rise to the occassion, and who will fold? Be there this Saturday and see all the action live!
Now for the first time, the Pundit's Picks for Saturday's event @ Houston Motorsports Park...
Richard Otwell 2-1
Richard's driving is much improved this year and with two wins in a row, he's the favorite.
Joe Pigford 3-1
Can't count the 2 time Champ out. Has lost some close rounds to R.O. and is looking for revenge.
Buddy Nickens 4-1
Very experienced driver, and the team has found some solid power.
Roy Pigford 5-1
Looking to rebound from an early exit at the last event.
Rick Cowger 6-1
Probably should be higher, but rumors persist the team hurt their "A" bullet. If the replacement is up to snuff, look for them in the late rounds.
The first double header weekend for the TPSA was scheduled to kick off at Ben Bruce Memorial on Saturday. Some of the teams had rolled in Friday nite, while the rest came in Saturday morning. The weather forecast had been bouncing around all week, but it looked promising early in the day and a couple of the teams took advantage of the open TT’s.
Just before the 1st round of qualifying was set to begin, it began to sprinkle, then it stopped, and it looked like we’d get if off after all. Around 6:30pm, it began to rain in earnest, and many of the spectators and a few of the bracket racers, and test n tuners headed for the front gate. The rain stopped at 7:30 and Mr. Bruce told the TPSA that Fred’s crew had the track dried and they would re prep it. He left the decision to the TPSA racers whether or not to continue. A decision was to be made by 8pm. After a meeting with all of the teams, it was decided to reschedule this race as most of the spectators and other racers had left by then. Fred, the crew, and Mr. Bruce enjoy their Texas Pro Stock racing as much as anyone, but that would have been an expensive ticket without any dollars coming in the gate. We certainly appreciate Mr. Bruce’s offer, and look forward to the 2010 season finale at Evadale on October 23rd. Be sure to mark your calendar now!
After the decision to reschedule the Evadale race, the TPSA traveling show loaded up and made the short haul to Houston Raceway Park in Baytown to compete at the Hurricane Alley MOTO FEST event. Sunday morning broke with clear skies, and a headwind, but none of the cooler temperatures that we were all looking for. After the two rounds of qualifying were completed around 1:45pm, sitting atop the pile was Team O’s, Richard Otwell with a 4.653 @ 151.37 (event low et) to just edge out Joe Pigford’s 4.658 @ 151.54 (event top speed). Roy Pigford was #3 at 4.676, and Buddy Nickens just an eyelash behind with a 4.677…both cars ran 150.03. Current Champ Larry Pearce, Rick Cowger, Aaron Hubbard, Junior Wilkerson, and Randy Elliott rounded out the field.
1st round…Still hot, humid, and a headwind. What did the random pairing have in store for the troops today?! 1st pair rolled under the tower and it would be the Talley/Nickens team with Nickens power under the hood takin’ on the Robinson/Wilkerson’s team Firebird. The “Budman” would move into round two uncontested as Junior was too quick out of the gate with a .386 redlite. Roy Pigford and Larry Pearce went through the puddle next and staged ‘em up. Tree comes down and it’s Pearce with a holeshot to send Roy back to the trailer; 4.718 to a 4.700. Next up was the Cowger/Wood team facing off with Randy Elliott’s Corvette. Randy’s #1 bullet is down for some updates and the C&W Team was having some gremlins today. Their Grand Am was not performing at it’s usual level so the outcome wasn’t certain. The “Dandy” Elliott had a sizeable lead at the hit but Rick drove around him to move into round 2. The 4th pair had major point implications. The current points leader, Joe Pigford vs Richard Otwell. Joe’s has enjoyed a comfortable, but not insurmountable points lead, but Richard’s been the one with the hot hand lately. They were staged, green in both lanes and it looked tight at half track. Win lite Otwell, and the scoreboard read 4.690 for Team O and a quicker, but later, 4.679 for the “Boss Hog”. Team O would pocket their own “Bounty Hunter” reward for taking out the current points leader. Aaron Hubbard and Ol’ Blue drew the bye and eased on to the next round.
2nd Round…Teammates and traveling partners, Otwell and Cowger were the first to come out under the tower. The C&W team was playin’ it close to the vest and nobody knew if they had found the problem that seemed to slow the car down each lap. Otwell looked to be on his game as his rt’s during qualifying had shown great improvement from his season average, and he had trailered J Pig with a holeshot in the opening stanza. Both cars staged and on the converter without issue, and Otwell’s out first again and never looked back. His 4.70 would move him into the semi’s. The “Budman” Nickens vs Aaron Hubbard duo would be the next pair. The Talley/Nickens team has been layin’ low, quietly sneaking up on the points leaders with improved performance over the course of the year. Aaron and Ol’ Blue didn’t have much of a chance on paper, but you never know what might happen on the dragstrip. A .000rt for Aaron had him leading to about half track but it appeared the Nickens HP would drive on by. About 500 ft, the ‘Vette made a hard move, and Hubbard lifted to save ‘er for another day. Nickens had motored by anyway, and his 4.703 would move on.
Larry Pearce drew the bye and it seemed, at least for a day, that his luck had changed. Larry has suffered through a bad luck spell this year that would see a lesser man call it a day. Like a true Champion, Larry has soldiered on and tried to turn it around. He took out Roy Pigford in the first round which helped his teammate’s, Otwell, run at the Championship and now he sits in the shade under the tower. The lane master gives him the sign to fire ‘er up. The railbirds are watching as LP’s ride refuses to start, and finally is towed back to the pits. In an unusual turn of events, there would be no semi finals, and Otwell and Nickens would meet in the final.
Team O and NRC/Slick Rick power could make a huge dent in Joe Pigford’s point lead. In the other lane, the Talley/Nickens team with Nickens Power and Slick Rick Heads were also making big strides in the point chase. As the afternoon shadows had lengthened, the performance of the two teams was nearly identical. Richard had run a 4.706 in the semi’s and Nickens, a 4.703. Should be a whale of a final! Big burnouts and staging procedures were complete. Motors come up, tree flashes, and Nickens has left the big red bulb hanging as Otwell’s streaking for the stripe. Budman’s .377 red lite negates any chance his better 4.693 had to take Otwell out. Richard posted a 4.734 after getting crossed up late in the pass. Congrat’s to Richard, NRC, Slick Rick, and Team O on two in a row, and the Talley/Nickens team for their runner up.
Thanks to Gary Lidiak and Wes from Bumbera’s Performance for maning the scales, and to all of the TPSA teams for making the haul.
Also, special thanks to Mike Bruce, Fred, and the crew at Evadale for offering to complete the race on Saturday, in spite of it being a losing proposition for them, and for hosting the finale on October 23rd.
Wayne Van Orden of Hurricane Alley deserves our appreciation as well. Even though it didn’t rain Sunday at Baytown, the rain Saturday and uncertainty of what the weather would do on Sunday, kept many of his racer’s from showing up and severely impacted the spectator count. He could have told the TPSA he was pulling the plug and go home, but he completed our event as well as the scheduled motorcycle racing and other special events. Thanks Wayne!

Birthday Celebration -- Lidiak, 09/22/10 10:05pm
Somebody had a birthday today and it went right by us all. Can't say who it is but his initials are DH. I dare you guys to ask him how old he is. Thanks for everything you do "DH" and happy birthday.
"Do you recognize the person in the attached picture? Yep, it’s the “DUDE”. I believe this picture was taken in early 1962 in Victoria. We were Seniors in high school. The truck was my Dad’s 1954 Ford. In the back is Eddie’s Triumph Motorcycle. The car being towed is Bruce Wilson’s 1932 Ford coupe. It was powered by a 265 C. I. Chevy engine (pretty well stock), 3 speed transmission, don’t remember what kind of rear end, street tires (no money for slicks), and homemade headers. The car ran in the C Altered Class, I think. We left Houston on Saturday mornings headed for San Antonio and the “Drag Strip”. We traveled the “old road” because there was no IH 10 back in the steam engine days. Three of us road in the front of the truck and 2 in the back with the bike, a bottle jack, and a few tools. If we went thru rain the guys in the back got wet. Eddie raced the bike, Bruce raced the car, Johnny Morris, Ken Streeter, and myself, Otto Carl, were the pit crew. After the races were over in San Antonio on Saturday night we loaded the bike, hooked up the car, and headed for Victoria. Sometimes Eddie would test and tune the bike on the kick stand while we were traveling. Upon arrival in Victoria about daylight we would sleep an hour or two where ever, then race there Sunday on an old air strip. After the races were over there we headed for Houston, unloaded, and went to school on Monday. This was what we considered a GREAT weekend."
You have my permission to publish the picture and the story. I thought that you and the other Prostock Racers might enjoy a bit of history about one of your racers.
Once again our crack field agents catch all of the action. The long awaited debut of the Platt/Hughes Team happened last Saturday nite @ Crandall. With Gene, HR, & Donald looking on, Tommy "TomCat" Platt looked right at home in the new Platt Bros ride, and the "Boxman's" drivetrain performed flawlessly in the shakedown runs. No numbers available, but look for the team to make another test session asap, and they plan to make their TPSA debut soon. -- agent 660, 09/ 7/10 7:44pm

Random thoughts on the points race! -- ZZ, 09/14/10 2:31pm
“An optimist is someone who goes after Moby Dick in a rowboat and takes the tartar sauce with him.” --Zig Ziglar
The Texas Prostock Association is bringing in their four second cars for Race #9 of their 2010 Series. The points battle is heating up with Richard Otwell taking the win August 28th. Now three racers are within striking distance of Joe Pigford, who was knocked out in the semis. Pigford, with 370 points, needs to hang tough with Rick Cowger (305), Buddy Nickens (301) and Roy Pigford (300) trailing by almost the same amount with four races left. The most recent winner, Otwell is right there with 295. Running a double header Sept 25th at Evadale then here at HRP on the 26th will be very interesting. The racers plan to get their cars in top form for two points races in two days. We can expect some heated competition. When they drive home Sunday night, someone may have locked in the 2010 Champion's slot or it's still up for grabs.
Plan for an exciting weekend, along with the Pro Stockers, there's some 200 mph motorcycles, the stunt show, custom show and something going on in every corner of HRP.
The September 11th race date is officially cancelled. Another venue was not available on that date with such short notice. To replace the 9/11 event, and complete the 12 race schedule, will require running back to back weekends, or another double header. **THERE IS STILL A POSSIBILITY OF ADDING 1 MORE RACE IN OCTOBER TO COMPLETE THE 12 RACE SCHEDULE** A decision will be made in the next few days and posted here ASAP.
Our next event will be the Double Header Weekend, September 25th @ Evadale, & the 26th @ Baytown. The remainder of our posted 2010 schedule has an event every other weekend.
The policy regarding the schedule has been announced at each Banquet and posted for the past few years:
1. 12 race schedule, count your best 10 for points.
2. Make every possible effort to reschedule events that were cancelled or postponed, within our posted policy.
3. Avoid racing back to back weekends when possible.
4. The TPSA season ends Oct 31. In the event less than 12 races were completed, each competitor would count his best 10 finishes for points. In the event less than 10 races were completed, there would be no "drops" and every event would go toward the point total.
Making the last race of the 2010 Season a "double points" race was considered, but adding one at this late date would not be consistent with the posted 2010 Championship Series Points procedure.
Thanks for your feedback on this and be sure to watch the message board for any new developments!

Here's the "Frederooski"... no, it's not a Zamboni (they're made for hockey rinks & there sure wasn't any ice @ Evadale) and it's not one of those purpose built track cleaners. Mike Bruce & Fred picked this ex NASA little honey up at an auction and converted it into a super oil down cleaner upper! How good does it work?..after the massive oildown from the starting line to the 1/8 mile mark, Fred made one pass down the spill and one pass back on the Frederooski and the major work was done. A bit of mop up, some draggin' & sprayin', and we were ready to get back to racing. When I saw the amount of oil on the track, I figured we would have a one lane racetrack the rest of the nite. Boy was I wrong, not only did they "fix" that lane, it was every bit equal to, if not better, than the other lane.

***As posted above, the 9/11 event @ Pine Valley has been postponed.*** The IHRA moved their Sportsnational to Dallas Raceway on the same weekend and many of the PVR regulars will be at the points race which will impact both car count and spectators. Probably not enough time to find another venue so the options are:
1) don't replace this event resulting in an 11 race series
2) make the last race of the year a double points race

Cowger/Wood runner up in all NRC final...
Congrats to both teams... they sure put in the hours as noted below. Great racing all nite, and special thanks to the East Texas fans, the Bruce Family, Fred, and the staff @ Evadale for perfect track conditions, even with a massive oil down in the left lane. That "Frederooski" (no, it's not a Zamboni, it's a former NASA piece tuned up by Fred) machine really speeds up the clean up process! Plenty of stories and "stuff" to report, but the Pit Pundit's report won't be in until later in the week. Thanks to all of the TPSA teams that came out and to everyone for a great effort. The results, points, and schedule pages have been updated for your review.
Please put Jeff Owen and family on your prayer list. His brother in law passed away from a sudden sugar coma that he did not come out of. Thanks -- Team O, 08/31/10 9:28am

Team work -- Team O, 08/30/10 8:31am
Sat nite was the result of hard work and team dedication. I want to say thanks to Kevin Cowger for getting the GXP done for me since the parts didn't come in till fri am and I had to work - fri nite testing wouldn't have happened without him. Speaking of testing after fri nite at Baytown the team was not satisfied with the C&W ride so we stayed up till 4 in the morning and changed the converter, the gear, the link and shock settings. Got to thank Scott Benham, David Prejean, Chad Rodgers, Kevin Cook, Kayla, Joe and the C&W guys for the efforts of getting both cars in the final. Can't say enough about our team owner and driver giving us great equipment to work with and doing his part at the tree! Also thanks to Lidiak Motorsports Marketing, TPSA and the evadale raceway gang for the place to race-both lanes were fast!
All ya gotta do for a nice chunk of $$$ is send "Boss Hog" back to the Pigpen this Saturday @ Evadale! The weather report is lookin' better, and it's always a good time in the Piney Woods with the Bruce family, Sir Frederick, and those great East Texas fans. Gates open @ 2pm! -- ., 08/26/10 12:17pm

O Team win ! -- Ray, 07/15/10 12:59am
Richard Otwell called me this morning and never metioned his recent win. Since I do not live in your area I don't know these things unless you tell me. Hell son, brag a little bit ! You earned it !
Dallas Raceway’s Friday nite program bracket program was cancelled due to a couple of early showers, and it looked like more was coming with the lightening and dark clouds that surrounded the track. Team “O”, Pearce, the Cowger/Wood Team, Robinson/Wilkerson, DH, & Hughes wiled away the time bench racing and there was some talk of washer pitchin’ and card playin’ until the wee hours but that is pure rumor and unsubstantiated by this reporter!
Saturday morning arrives and to everyone’s surprise, the weather forecast was wrong! Earlier in the week mostly cloudy, high of 95*, and southerly breeze was the word. Actually, the teams discovered there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, it was hotter than Sandra Bullock at the MTV awards, and close to gale force winds!
TPSA qualifying was slated to go off around 6:30pm but an early oil down; and it was an oil down from the starting line to the turn off (synthetic rear end oil), would delay things for quite a while. The upside was the cloud cover did make an appearance, and it was cooling off some. Sammy and the crew did an awesome job, but the left lane was gonna be a little tricky ‘till later in the event. Just when it looked like the lane was coming in, another, massive oil down in the same lane stopped the program again. After the smoke cleared, Joe Pigford with his Reher-Morrison power notched another #1 qualifying position with a 4.690 @ 149.10. Regular readers of the Pundit know that NRC Teammates Otwell, and Pearce have had some gremlins recently, and the general consensus was they “probably” would be hard pressed to make this event. Don’t bet against these guys as not only were they there, they were #2, and #3 qualifiers. It was reported neither had a chance to test… just fired ‘em up on the dyno, put the cars together, and make tracks for Crandall. Team “O” sat in the #2 slot with an eye opening 4.693 @ 147.76, and Pearce’s 4.718 @ 148.35 kept the top 3 very tight. Roy Pigford’s 4.739 @148.05, Rick Cowger’s 4.758 @147.58, and “Budman” Nicken’s 4.790 @ 146.54 rounded out the top half of the field.
1st round…Aaron Hubbard, once again behind the wheel of ol’ Blue, would face off with a familiar face. Tommy Platt was filling in for the “Boxman” and HR Hughes due to Donald’s recent back surgery. Gene & Tommy Platt were regulars on the TPSA circuit and instrumental back in the day when DH could win a round, and Tommy has driven ol’ Blue on a number of occasions, so the two “youngsters” know each other well. Tommy hasn’t had any recent seat time, but the Hughes/Platt team did get in some quality laps the previous weekend @ Crandall. Back to the race, burnouts and staging completed without a hitch, and “Double A” had the early lead. Both teams improved from their qualifying efforts and Hubbard’s 4.825 would move into round 2. Tommy posted a 4.899 in the Hughes’ Baretta. Look to see the Platts with “Tomcat” in the chair at more TPSA races this year. 2nd pair was the “Boss Hog” squaring off with the pride of West Texas, “Quickdraw” Lance Abbott in his popular S-10. On paper Pigford should have it easy, but Lance has put it on Joe in the past so nothing is guaranteed. As the tree flashes, “Quikdraw” lives up to the billing with a .416 lite, but Pig’s not to be denied and posts a 4.693 to trailer Lance’s best pass of the nite, 4.839. Next up was Richard Otwell’s Team “O” entry against the ever popular ‘Vette of the Hanson family with Rick at the controls. Richard showed the troops he was ready with a 4.693 of his own to match the Pig and end Rick’s nite. The defending champ, Larry Pearce rolled into the water alongside the Team Robinson/Wilkerson’s Trans Am. Junior and the "new guys" had a great .418 rt but couldn’t hold off the hard charging 4.757 of Larry. The next pair was a doozy! In this corner…errr lane, Rick “Ricky Bobby” Cowger in the Cowger/ Wood entry, and his opponent was the current points leader, Buddy the “Budman” Nickens in the Talley/Nickens Camaro. The Talley/Nickens ride improves with every outing and Cowger was coming off a runner up finish at the last event. Both were hungry for a round win, and the extra incentive (like he needed any) was for “Ricky Bobby” to collect the bounty for takin’ down the points leader, Nickens. Cowger was in touch with the stars, and needed his telepathic .407 rt to collect the bounty, and the round win with a 4.743 over the quicker, but later, 4.738 of Nickens. Heck of a drag race that had everybody on their feet. Roy Pigford drew the bye and calmly posted a .69 of his own, a 4.699. Luck always plays a role in any racin', and it was fortunate for Roy that he had the bye. A fuel leak on the burnout likely would have ended his nite if there had been an opponent in the other lane as he would not have had time to tighten the fitting and stage the car before the starter DQ’d him. As it was, he staged the car without doing another burnout, and his Reher-Morrison bullet rewarded him with an astounding pass. Oh, by the way, this was in the aforementioned abused left lane.
2nd round…The newest “Bounty Hunter” Cowger, drew Hubbard. “Double A” had a small advantage at the tree but his best pass of the event, 4.808, would cross behind Rick’s 4.745. A classic battle was shaping up in the water box. Otwell’s NRC powered machine had already run a couple of .69’s but the younger “Pig”, Roy’s, RM powered GXP, in just it’s second outing, wasn’t intimidated at all. Both cars staged, Otwell out first by .007, and they were eyeballing each other all the way down! Win lite for Otwell’s 4.691 @ 148.87 just in front of Roy’s 4.697 @ 149.28. Wow!...now that’s a drag race.. TPSA syle! The next pair featured rival engine builders as well, as Joe Pigford, aka “Boss Hog” would shoe his GXP vs Larry Pearce in his GXP. Both drivers ready and stage, the tree comes down, redlite glows in Larry’s lane. Joe storms down track to the low et of the event @ 4.679, 149.51. At the ticket booth, it’s revealed BOTH drivers redlited but Larry’s .309 was earlier than Joe’s .334. Just when you think you’ve seen it all… it was a full moon...LOL!
Semi’s…Cowger draws the bye which insures at least one NRC bullet would be in the final. He launches and shuts ‘er off about 330’, saving it for the team’s second consecutive final. Nobody left sittin’ for the next pair… everyone was on their feet crowding the fence. NRC vs Reher-Morrison, Team “O” facing off with the “Boss Hog”… who’s it gonna be? No drama’s in the burnout or staging procedure, tree comes down, green in both lanes, but it looked like Otwell has the advantage. The Win lite and scoreboard lite up the darkness and it’s Otwell! He left first with a .418 and out ran Pigford’s 4.696 @ 149.20 with a better 4.689 @ 148.87.
Finals…Team Cowger/Wood was fired up about being in another final, and hoped to put their Grand Am in the Winner’s Circle. Derryl Wood had cut the last day of his trip to Mexico short to board a plane and get to Crandall. Team “O” had plenty of confidence that it would be them collecting the dough at the end of the nite. As both teams run NRC power, the question was heard along the fence “would they race for it?”. I doubt any of the TPSA members believed it would be anything but an all out war and the intensity both drivers displayed would verify that. Burnouts complete, both prestage, and Cowger’s routine changes! Rick stages very quickly, Richard goes in a couple of beats later. Tree flashes, Otwell automatically wins when the “red” is left hangin’ in Cowger’s lane. Scoreboards show it would have been close…4.727 for Otwell, 4.735 for Rick. Congrats to Team “O” for their first victory of the year, and the Cowger/Wood Team had a great outing by stringin’ two finals together and collecting the Team "O" "Bounty" bucks.
Congrats to all of the TPSA teams that came out and braved the first official race of the “Summer Swing”. Special thanks to Sammy, Cindy, Sandy, and the entire Dallas Raceway staff, for their efforts in completing a long, hot, and challenging, event. As mentioned earlier, Sammy and the track crew performed near miracles on the left lane under the extreme conditions of consecutive oil downs and hot temps. Our thanks also to the Scalemaster, Randy the “Dandy” Elliott for donating his time to the TPSA while his car is down.
Next Event is July 24th at the “Concrete Palace”, Dallas Raceway.
I'm looking for a Chassis car that has not ran in a while. -- Adrian, 07/ 8/10 10:28pm
Looking for a rolling chassis car that is in the shop with dust and someone wanting to just move it out of their way because it is taking up space. If you have one can you email me pictures and price your asking for it to www.vielsmotorsports@yahoo.com?
"Bus Stop" Billy Stocklin was in the house @ the ADRL in Topeka over the weekend. Unfortunately, the event was rained out, but not before BS had the Team Hanning's Frankie Taylor and Wes Johnston PM's flyin'. Rumor has it that BS has lent a hand to Pro Nitrous #1 qualifier Doug Reisterer as well. -- ., 07/ 4/10 1:42pm

Dallas Raceway Announcer -- Mike Lawley, 05/24/10 12:57pm
We have been several times now out to Dallas Raceway in Crandall and there is a new announcer. If you havent seen this guy he is crazy. We saw him at a motorcycle race one Sunday, then at the 10.5 race this past weekend. Someone said he is their new guy. He is the best announcer I think I have ever heard. Does anyone know who he is? He sounds very familiar but I don't recognize him at all.

Just got off the phone with Sammy @ Dallas Raceway and he said he had the a/c on kill, so be sure to bring your jackets for tomorrow!....LOL. The weather forecast looks good for this time of year with 96* & 75* for the high and low temps, with a south breeze, cloudy, with 0% chance of the "r" word. Several teams are making the trip tonite and the gate should be open 'till midnite or so.
NOTE: Friday nite's are leased to the bracket program so if you get there early they MAY charge you to park... it's still a bargain if they do. However, if you want to park overnite in the spectator area for free, let 'em know at the gate. No TNT tonite but you could enter the brackets for some hits.
Looking for a good turnout with some new faces, so get saddled up and slap some leather!
A few weeks ago, Mike Brink called with a couple of special offers to all TPSA members/teams. Somehow, I forgot to post 'em...Sorry Mike! The first is a discount, based on his hourly shop rate, on any repairs, updates, or projects on your existing ride. The second would be a great deal for someone. Mike wants to build a new TPSA entry and is offering a special one time deal to a team looking for a brand new, state of the art ride. If you're not familiar with Brink Racecraft, they have built some incredible rides, a couple of which are on the flyer, and of course references are available. To apply for either offer and get the full details contact Mr. Mike Brink @ 972 438 3204. If you see Mike in the pits Saturday @ Crandall, be sure to tell him thanks for his support of the TPSA! -- DH, 06/23/10 11:55pm

Congrats to Bill "Traveller" Stocklin for tuning Frankie Taylor to another double win weekend! #1 & #2 Qualifyiers, reset both ends of the track record, both team cars in the final with Frankie taking the win Friday @ Kennedale. #1 Qualifier and won the race @ Crandall Saturday where they were the only car in the 3's and ran bottom .80's all nite. We're thinking of changing Bill's nickname to "Bus Stop"... it matches his initials (BS) and he has more racetracks (cities) on his route than Greyhound! -- Good Job!, 06/21/10 3:33pm

Lots of stuff to watch for next saturday @ Crandall. The Talley/Nickens Team with the "Budman" at the wheel is the current points leader and has a big ol' target on their back. Plenty of TPSA teams will be gunnin' to collect the Bounty.
Leading the list of Bounty Hunters will be #3 in the points, Joe "Boss Hog" Pigford. The "Boss" is only one point behind his brother and teammate Roy, and thirteen back of "Budman". Look for him to come out with both guns blazin'.
The Bounty has the Abbott's of West Texas coming to town. "Quickdraw" Lance says just hand him the $$!
Donald the "Boxman" Hughes is recovering nicely from his back surgery but won't be in the car for the remainder of the year.
Rumor has it he was out testing in the Baretta with a replacement driver @ Crandall Saturday. Numbers looked good and they're ready for the 26th. Look closely in the pic for the new "shoe".
***Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there!***
***June 26th we're back @ Dallas Raceway, the Concrete Palace***
Talked to Sammy this am and wanted to pass along some info on the next race. Gates will open @ 5pm (TPSA teams can get in early) and TT's will probably be 6pm & 7pm with elims to begin about 8ish. As you remember Sammy runs a tight program to keep action on the track and he wants to run the finals no later than midnite. Ya'll have been doin' a great job on turnin' the cars around and we ask that you continue to give that extra effort to be ready. THANKS!
I'll have a flyer out soon but some folks have asked me to post the start time ASAP.
