Subject: The new "Pro" class is generating a bunch of interest and I'm fielding several questions each week....

I was asked today if the Sniper X, "375" was legal. A quick call to Sniper confirmed the 375 head was not available prior to 9/07 therefore it does not comply with the rules for either class. The 365 or 385 head was available, and is a legal head/casting. However, if you have a "custom" port put in a 365 casting, it would be legal for the XTREME class only... Remember, the head you start with for the PRO class HAS to have been available prior to 9/07 and be an "out of the box" head that could be installed and run with no modifications. Porting & polishing is allowed, as is angle milling to 22*, but no "custom ports", moving of spark plug location, valve and/or guide location, combustion chamber redesign, semi finished, raw castings, etc. You can stuff any port design you desire in a casting that was available prior to 9/07 (within the current TPSA rules) but it would be legal for the XTREME class only!

It's been pointed out that it will be fairly easy to "fudge" the head rule in the PRO class. The class will be monitored and parity will be insured by awarding "lead trophies" when necessary. The first race of the season at DTR had the entries present within .05 (all in the high 4 second zone at altitude) and provided for some exciting racing. That represents the vision and direction we had in mind when the PRO class was created.

A partial repost of the original rule draft:

"The short version is all of the existing rules apply, weight, cubic inch, single 4, pg, etc, but only "out of the box" cylinder heads produced prior to 9/07 are allowed. Porting, polishing, angle milling (22* min) is legal, but NO semi-finished or raw castings, cannot move valves, guides, spark plug location, weld combustion chambers, etc. Also, no Alum or Hybrid convertors. We will have a Pro class winner at each event, and a 2011 Pro Champ will be crowned at the 2011 Championship Banquet. This class is a work in progress and we'll be monitoring and making notes for 2012, but this year we just want everyone to come on out and have some fun! We expect the et's to be in the 70's -80's in the good air; probably .1 slower in the heat. If you have any questions, call me @ 512 756 6384, or click on my initials below to email me."

If you need further clarification, or just want to check with me on your plans, please call, post, or email.
