| Subject: Although I congratulate Florida on her win, every year I still think that the teen program still looks for its tried-and-true titleholder. The program seems to always crown the “sweet non-threatening girl,” who will do everything the program wants her to do rather than a forward thinking teen. I am not saying the girl needs to be controversial and outspoken, but rather someone who has her finger on the pulse of today’s society and understands teens. Instead we crown yet another non-memorable titleholder who I am sure will do a great job, but will remain bland and boring. Among the top 12, RI would have been my selection, as I think she is more of a representation of today’s teen. | |

They've both got two national wins already..." on 14:37:59 08/17/13 Sat [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
| [> Subject: 3 things about the Teen program. 1) If California wants to win, we need to relocate to the south. 7 of the 9 national winners have represented a southern state. 2) No bashing intended here but this year's winner had bottom 40 written all over her when they put the state crown on her head. She is certainly pretty enough and charming enough but there is nothing about her that stands out to me. I would have sent the 2nd runner up and if not her the 3rd runner up. The judges missed the boat in Fresno again. Which brings me to my 3rd point. 3) The judges. Although this year's panel seemed good enough, we need to realize that MCOT is a state competition and we need to have state calibur judges. Instead we have local volunteers from programs that don't have a teen. We get nobody with a track record for picking national teen winners and the judges we do get are treated horribly. If you want judges who will commit to the process, then commit to the judges. Maybe Katie can help change that. | |

| [> [> [> Subject: I think Kati should look at how successful states select their state teen panels and follow their leads. And yes, bite the bullet and pay for their hotel rooms and meals. It's cheap and clessless to do otherwise (and that last comment isn't directed at Kati. She inherited the system as is.) | |

| [> [> [> [> [> Subject: Kati or Mary McCaman could better answer this question than I could. But I was under the impression the Teen Director selected the panel with Bob's approval, and if they needed local Fresno judges, he would make suggestions because he has so many Fresno connections. But like I said, Kati or Mary would have the definitive answer. | |

Author: There is Miss America rules to follow when picking state judges I dont think Ca. follows those rules. That would be the first step to a better panel of judges. [ Edit | View ] |

| [> [> [> Subject: Correct. It is MY truth. Let's take a closer look at MY truth. I said 7 of the 9 national winners have come from the South. the national winners have represented Virginia, Oklahoma, Texas, South Carolina (2), and Florida (2). The two winners who did not come from the South represented New York and Wisconsin. TRUTH! I said Mikaela had bottom 40 written all over her when she was crowned. She finished in the bottom 40 at the national pageant. TRUTH. I said we treat our teen judges horribly. We do not pay for their hotel or meals while they stay in Fresno which is the least any pageant will do for its Judges. TRUTH. That you can't see the TRUTH or agree with the TRUTH, does not change the TRUTH. | |
