Subject: I am sure the Cardinals did not want to rock the boat and go with someone who had different philosophies than JP II. It's obviously a tough act to follow. Also, not terribly sure how much of an impact Benedict XVI will have on the church as the man is 78 years old.
In reply to: John 's message, "His very doctrinaire views will not endear him to North Americans and Northern Europeans, and his comments about other religions have been extreme in their intolerance. I suspect the Cardinals were content to continue, for now, the doctrinal policies of John Paul II while selecting a Vatican insider to retool the Curial institutions. All we can do, I suppose, is wish him the best." on Tue April 19, 2005 15:39:10
