• I'm getting a little sick of hearing how great WH is. He spends a good deal of time anlayzing the league but if you go back and look at his predictions, they are not exactly Nostradamus.Binns and hustle seemed mutually excluisive many times this year.     • WH is an objective poster and bases his remarks on extensive viewing of A10 games. While he offers considered opinions he hardly goes easy on teams. I read his entire post and he criticizes Duquesne and other teams. He may not be overly critical but he does not go easy on poorly performing teams. As for the accuracy of his predictions how can you fault him when prominent & highly paid experts like Andy Katz cannot even predict the Final Four in this years tournament?       • I wasn't really criticizing WH, per say, but the minions that seem to lavish him with such high intellectual knowledge our conference. Having seen nearly every game this year, he appears way off the mark on his assessment of Binns and Greene took virtually no jump shots so how can one take those assessments seriously?       • I don't read his posts for the predictions, I read them for the insights and analysis. He's better, more objective, and more comprehensive than any other A-10 observer I've read to date. I also like his tone -- civil and very well written. There are enough bombastic pundits out there. I want something different -- someone who does his research and does not feel the need to yell and exaggerate. He's not right all of the time but it's a pleasure to read his work. • For the most part I think WH does a very good job of covering the A-10. He is very objective, has been very harsh on the Rams in the past, has praised DW as of late. That said, in this case I think he was off. I am not writing either kid off, but Binns showed me very little this year. I do not think it was due to lack of hustle though, I think he was just a bit lost on the court. Greene on the other hand showed me a lot of promise, he is extremely athletic, very quick for his size, can jump out of the roof and goes after rebounds with a purpose. The one thing he did not show me was a good jump shot. His shot has little to no rotation and he has a slow release. He can improve on it, but it is not what I would call his strong suit. • I actually think that WH was right on the money with both players. If you've watched any practices, you know that Greene has a good shooting touch, he just needs some work on his mechanics. He is in fact a very good passer with good court vision and has been hesitant to display his offensive repertoire in games. Binns does jump well, is athletic and has a pretty good shot(again you need to see him practice to understand this because he never lost his game nerves in his 2 months of playing with us). So WH is pretty much right on here with his analysis. There will be lots of different opinions on this, but I agree with WH that both players will be critical to our success next season and my feeling is both will improve and step into important roles.         • I think most people are willing to give him a chance and we hope that he does improve. That being said, his development was slower than other freshmen and more than the level of his play was his poor decisions.             • Nothing I've written is either mean-spirited or illogical. I'm well aware of who we're talking about although there are probably very few 18-year olds on the team and given that Michael played a year in prep school, he's at least 19, probably 20. I'm sure he's a good kid (DW hasn't brought in a bad kid yet) but I saw 7 of the last 9 games of the season and the guy struggled down the stretch. There's nothing wrong w/ honest an honest observation and there's nothing mean about it.               • That evaluation of my statements on Binns is innacurate, to say the least. I have not in any way "hyped" Binns. In fact my statements here about him have been realistic and even-handed. He is a freshman college basketball player who had some rough going in his first two months as a player. Posters here have treated him like he's a failure already as a player. Is that fair or logical? Of course not. Try to keep this in perspective. This is a young man who is trying to do his best as a player and student at Fordham.                 • Then respond to the posters who have treated him like a failure. I don't think of him that way. I think he's a player who seems to have some skills but needs a lot of work to polish them. You responded to my post which would suggest that I was being unfair and/or illogical. My comments might be critical but based on his performance, they were justified. As I noted above, I don't think DW has recruited a bad kid and I'm sure than Michael is a good kid and I'm delighted he's at Fordham. That being said, it's not out of line to comment that he needs to work on his game alot in the off season.             • Rambacker, I hear where you are coming from, but I do not think that too many of these posts were mean spirited, though some were. I certainly do not think that mine were and since you do not pinpoint specific people it is hard to tell which posts you are referring to. I think both Binns and Greene are good kids, or young men, whichever is the preferred term. I see a lot more promise in Greene than Binns, but that is not to say that Binns does not have a lot of promise as well. The beauty of it all is that they still have 3 full seasons to continue to improve. When I think of players and how much they can improve I think of guys like Arseni Kuchinsky. When he first got here I think few of us could stomach his time on the court, but by the time he was done many of us were hoping the NCAA would give him his 4th year much like we did with Mushon this year. Having been to every home game this year and a few road games, his analysis of Binns & Greene could not be any further off the mark.     • I'd have to side with RB on this one Wram, at least when it comes to your statement that The Sea Bass is a horrible shooter. What, exactly do you mean by that ? Do you mean that his mechanics are not up to par, or, do you mean that he is not an effective scorer in an actual game ? During the 2004-2005 season, the Sea Bass shot .434 (33-76) from the floor, making him the third most effective field goal shooter on the team, with only BD at .520 (154-296) and The Moosh at 86-164 (.518), more effective scorers. SG was also the number one foul shooter for this young ramlet team, hitting 90% of his attempts at the charity stripe. At 6'8'', and tipping the scales at only 188 lbs., however, he will get banged up playin' in the paint, so he might beef up a bit, during the off-season, to have a more effective inside game.       • Greene has a head for the game, moves well without the ball, and can jump through the roof. He needs to add 20 lbs of muscle so he can bang inside some more. He needs to work on getting a faster shot release, but that comes with practice. Binns is less polished, but has good size and can crash the boards (viz. his performance at GW). IHMO, if both players seemed reticent at times, it's because they were trying to work within DW's system, rather than just showing what they can do individually. And that's a welcome change.       • Dear John, your evaluation of SG is on the money, but I can't say the same for your opinion of MB. "Crashin' the boards" in that last game with GW ? Hardly. MB had 28 minutes of PT, and came up with one rebound ! The 2004-2005 season shows MB played in 25 games, with 306 minutes of PT, while haulin' down 49 rebounds. That makes for 1.96 boards per game. He was usually on the outside, chuckin' from downtown, and, by doing so, did not position himself for rebounds. IMHO, MB just doesn't have the game smarts, at the present time, to make him an effective ballplayer. Durin' that last game with GW (I viewed it several times on tape), MB seemed to respond, after the fact, to many game situations. GW, would slash thru the paint, with MB, trailing several steps behind, flailing at the back of a GW jersey. In order to realize his potential, MB has to learn to anticipate the action on the hardwood. With additional coaching, and more playin' time, this may, or may not, come to pass.         • Binns is still recovering from a serious disc problem in his back. Do you have any idea how serious an injury that is? He spent the first 10 games that he played in just reaching a point where he could run without pain. And his play was affected in other ways due to the injury recovery. That's what this forum is all about, and ..., I back up my opinions, with data. I do not rail at, nor do I demean, posters who do not share my views. We'll have to wait and see what Big Mike does next season. No amount of debating will change what will happen. If MB recovers from his injury, beefs up, and becomes a student of the game, he will contribute to the team, in a meaningful way. I sincerely hope he can do that.
