Author: Always a Duke
Subject: While admittedly the Dukes' playing Penn State will not carry the stature of an opponent such as Duke, Villanova (who owes us a home game from way back, as I recall) or Ohio St., I view it as a positive step in improving the Dukes' non-conference schedule. Even though PS is not a b-ball power in the Big 10, the addtion of a team to the schedule from a conference that has an RPI rating higher than the A-10's, is generally an improvement over playing a team from a conference with an historically low RPI rating, such as the NEC. PS lists 24,291 alumni living in Allegheny County. (more ...)

Considering that we can't half fill Palumbo, I'm not very optimistic that we would get many fans to travel to a remote place like State College, to see us play a very mediocre opponent." on Saturday, July 17, 07:54:17am

While not all of these alumni are die-hard PS B-ball fans, the opportunity to see PS play in the Burgh will certainly serve as an attraction for approximately 1,500 Penn Staters to attend a game at the Palumbo. Obviously the records of both the Dukes and PS prior to their game will have a big influence on the attendance. Lastly, the geographical proximity of the schools and PS's former membership in the A-10 would suggest that a home and home series is a good fit.

Well, let's at least see what kind of interest the series will generate before we put a negative label to it.
