Author: El Duque (Spike Lee)
Subject: Slim, that quote is in the blog that is linked above. It did strike me a bit funny too. No offense to the coach, but Duquesne is dealing with the player and his family, and that is how it should be. Unless we have violated some type of NCAA recruiting rule, which doesn not appear to be the case, then he is off base. And if he steers the kid away from DU because his ego is out of joint, that word will get around among the coaches too. What's important, all the way around: Do the right thing.
In reply to: Slim 's message, "Yes, I know that, hence my emphasis on the word SECOND. Look, for all I know the guy is a scum as you describe, but I don't see anywhere where he said anything about them "not going through" him. If he is mentoring the kid (as a good coach should do) then I see nothing wrong with him saying, "son, there may be a school that's a better fit for you, maybe you should visit some other places just to be sure."" on Saturday, October 30, 09:40:49am

  • I'll drop t after this Slim and I respect your opinion. If he said that to the young man, that is fine & upstanding. My problem is his going to the press and accusing Duquesne of improper recruiting. Time will tell I suppose. (NT) -- TMH, Saturday, October 30, 09:51:12am
