Subject: Pirates make 29.4 million dollars

ESPN has a great new article on the Pirates. It seems it has leaked out that the Pirates made 29.4 million dollars in 2007 and 2008. The article is at http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5484947 and is lengthy, but in depth. The General Manager states that the Pirates are in the middle of their long range plan to become winners. The Pirates just signed a 16 year old kid from Mexico named Luis Heredia. He could be the best Pirate pitcher from Mexico since Diomedes Olivo (who was actually Dominican). Also, the Pirates have built a big baseball academy in the Dominican Republic which is expected to pay dividends down the road. Good article!

- The Bucs have to do a better job of growing their own players. 18 years of horrible drafting and player development is what got them where they are. Good free agents won't come here, and overpaying for mediocre players like Pat Meares helps not at all. Prior to the current crop of youngsters, Jason Kendall, and Aramis Ramirez were the only two draftees to become very good players for the bucs during this era. That's beyond pathetic.
