Subject: The vanishing of the Xander character

The one thing I missed from the earlier seasons (1-3) was the sharp wit and comedy that the Xander character brought to the series via the use of language etc. I thought that this could have been used to a great effect to lighten the mood, that always seemed so dark and dreary, of seasons 5-7. It really seemed to vanish after the first few seasons.
