Hello Tony,
ss ASCOT official number 168342 built in 1942 for Britain SS Co Ltd (Watts, Watts & CO. Ltd - London)

29.2.1944: Torpedoed and sunk by gunfire by Japanese submarine I-37 (Nakagawa), in the Indian Ocean about 800 miles NW of Diego Suarez, in position 05.00S 63.00E while sailing independently on a voyage from Calcutta and Colombo to Diego Surez and Port Louis, Mauritius, with 9000 tons general cargo including linseed oil, wax, gunnies, pig iron, coconuts and fibre. The Master, Capt James Fawcett Travis, 39 crew and 7 gunners were lost. 4 crew and 3 gunners were rescued by Dutch ship STRAAT SOENDA 8184/39 and landed at Aden 3.3.44.

Tried the usual sources for a photo but it eludes me at this time.

Regards
Hugh
