The house was very different and I ended up getting dizzy on the stairs and then again in the hallway on the second floor. Those were built with industrial metal grating to allow the heat from the sunroom (which included a sauna and a hot tub) to rise and heat the upstairs. It was a weird feeling to be walking down a hallway where you can see through to the kitchen and sunroom below. Our builders and realtors do this every spring and fall. They pick the examples of the homes they want to showcase and then they have them open to the public for two weekends. Most of the homes these days are *huge* and range in price from the mid $200,000 to almost $500,000. I've never quite understood why anyone needs that much room (formal living, formal dining, library, hearth room, family room, eat in kitchen, full finished basement 4-5 bedrooms, at least 3 full baths and now, we've graduated to 3 car garages as normal) but also, where are they getting the money? Our house will be paid off in just over a year and boy, are we going to celebrate!! It'll be nice to have that money every month instead of making a mortgage payment. But since our taxes and insurance are built into our payment, then we have to pay that stuff on our own. But still, can you imagine the mortgage payment on a $400,000 home?
