Subject: HipHop! the now and then and what could have been.PEEP

Placed in the shining light of our greatest pioneers
the stage is set for hiphop memories, this is why i am here
kool herc, afrika bambatta ,and grand master flash
i’d like to express my sincere gratitude on each of their behalf
to the day’s of Public Enemy and Run Dmc
to the godfathers of rap Big Daddy Kane and Kool Moe D
Kool G Rap’s still bringin pain, EPMD went there seperate ways
bringing Def and Hit Squads forward to blow like grenades
Slick Rick did some time and was ejected from game
but returned with a classic album add this to his fame
perhaps you recall when Black Sheep said the choice is your’s
deal with this instead of that and sealed rock n’ rolls doors
the power of one verse is far mightier than the sword
felt deeper in ones soul than any quitar cord
i remember when rap was thought of strictly as a fad
‘’it will never sell platinum records’’ words spoken directly by my dad
your white and you listen to rap, what you must wanna be black
crisp fade, hooded shirts, pants sag in the back
it’s not like that at all i just love the culture in fact
9 out of ten up in comers act like voltures who snack
attract nothing more than a bunch of actors obeying the craft
laying the match at the house of hiphop burning it’s past
lost to many great artists to continue this path
gangster personafied images when half never seen a gun
most true thugs are busy selling drugs to rock in clubs
next time you feel you gotta come hard to get a point across
look in the hearts of men to find the loud ones are mostly soft
B.I.G., Tupac Shakur,Pun and Big L
four of the dopest to ever grasp a mic, low and behold they’ve all fell
no ones fault but our own, we’ve slowly cursed ourselves.
