Silence.

The landing was rough, the ground beneath her stone, cold and glazed with a mixture of grease and dust. What little light made it's way from the small gas lamp across the room barely allowed the best eyes to see their surroundings.

A bit of hay in one corner gave longevity to the trap: black bars the size of a man's wrist surrounded Ratling, the cage no more than three by four. A vague breeze made its way unkindly through the space.

Outside the bars, the rest of the room was a pile of filthy cages and broken machinery. The drip-drip-drip of water, a sneeze, and the tune of a child's music box played an eerie symphony for the newcomer.

Matsu was nowhere to be found.

It seemed an accident, or perhaps a detour somewhere, but to where was anyone's guess.... and minutes dragged on as the chilly silence of the room surrounded the little girl.

"Wot?" A creaky voice said from somewhere in the darkness. There was a soft chorus of rushed shhhhh's, but the speaker would not be silenced. "I don't undahstand. Go and see wot?" Into the grimey lamplight, a bright blue figure made its way nearer. Two huge eyes with black orbs for pupils peered down at Ratling from a face that held no feature more than a tiny mouth on it's big clock face. The grandfather clock tipped and teetered its way over to look through the bars. "Ohhhhhh!"

"Allo, young thing! You Meimei's newest capjah ah ya?" The big eyes blinked. "Oh wol, she don't mean no 'arm, really- lovely gull, so long as ya don't listen ta a word she says. Can't trust a foxy-loxy, wont no one evah toldja that before, aye..." He looks her over, an innocence in this strange creature seeping out in his words. "Ah ya poor git. Musta be scared halfa death, wot wot? Well, dunna worry. Ol' Chapman will explain evrethin."

He looks to his left. The 10 and the 2 on his clock face raise in surprise. "Weeell... looks like the Mastah's got himself a beatin bag again, won't ya see this, Harold? Regular Jedi ovah heeya." In the cage to Ratling's left, a much large area of about nine-by-seven, a man- or corpse, by the look of him- lies on the ground. He looks split from top to bottom, bloodied and sliced up. With a bit of squinting she can tell he's a satyr.

As Chapman gawks at the fallen man, out of the darkness creep creatures straight out of the deep dreaming. A tiny plaid mouse, a rag doll with a missing eye, a family of green caterpillars sparkling like emeralds, and a compass walking its way over to the others are only a few of the strange beings coming to look at the two new items added to the collection....
