The black catling nodded to his partner, then edged with her around a clump of bushes, staying on the opposite side of a guard who was passing through. As soon they were clear, they bolted across to the sluice. Kurai wrinkled his nose at the water, and the prospect of getting wet, but he crouched inside the narrow sluice, making his way quietly through it. Most splashes would be covered up by the tumble of the water falling from the gate, due to the gate's elevated position, but still the catling took care not to create too much noise. He emerged on the other side into the gardener's shed, glancing around him. No one was there... apparently the gardeners had quarters inside the castle. He crossed the small room to the opposite door, pressing his ear against it, listening for any footsteps or vibrations.
