Just an off the wall thought for us big guys that have troubles fitting into the 600cc cars. Why doesnt the NMMA adopt the AMA Formula Extreme engine rules. This would allow a greater mix of engines including V-twins. This could create a safer situation for bigger drivers for more leg room, plus some of these engines would be lighter and allow the bigger guys to make weight. Just throwing it out there for some fun ideas. Just think, wouldnt the roar of some big V-twins sound good.

Well, thank's to Jim Slade I got the parts I need to put the car back together, but I need a wing if anyone know's anyone who has a 10 sq. wing. I just want to exhaust every option before I pay over $300 to have one shipped to me from Lightning. I'm still waiting for ARS to fix my shocks and send them back, but I would like to find a wing as soon as I can so I can get it painted and stickered up. The dimension's I would prefer is 40" wide X 36" long with 42" sideboards, but anything right now is better than nothing since I am running out of race weekend's. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank's again.

Its time people to get Pat and Joe out of the NMMA and anyone else that has been dragging it down for years. Its time to get people in there that are passionate about Micro Racing and WILLING to make changes to keep up with the times. The old ideas and thinking has got to go. Its sad it took this disaster to happen for things to hopefully change... the problem I see is that there are hardly any members now and many are they same people that supported the old administration. Lets do the right thing and elect intelligent, hard working people to these positions. They should be able to layout a plan to get the NMMA back up and running. Make a plan to bring Tracks and racers back. Having a true willingness to find sponsors for a point fund to make racing for points an attractive thing again. Lets Race guys!

Another brilliant comment from you Lanny. You are another one of the "problems" in the NMMA. You have done NOTHING to help the NMMA over the years. I seriously hope when new people are elected that you stay out of there way with your persoanl thoughts... I am sure they can handle it fine without you.

OK David, you have spoken up, are you now willing to take a job with the New NMMA? What postion are you willing to run for? How will you implement your ideas for bettering the organization? If you run, what are the planks in your platform?
I'm not trying to antagonize you, I used to be a member in the late 80's and early 90's. Club Official's rep / club tech rep / region tech rep. When the boys got older and wanted to move on we stopped racing. It's difficult to attract people with ideas and get them to ante up and do more than "suggest" from the sidelines. I was quite disappointed to see the NMMA die like it has. It was founded on a good principle but it became stagnant and the membership got lazy and the bickering drowned out all the good, caring people.
Good luck to whomever steps up and takes a stance. I hope you hit a home run and the NMMA comes back to life.

Lanny, I know you are a big supporter of the current administration and its your right to defend them... but to be honest you havent said anything that makes sense and you have not said one thing to make anyone believe they are worth keeping. I do not wish to be nominated for office. I support my local track and thats all I can do "at this time". My post was just to stir up debate and conversation which it has. My belief is that the current people in office are not worth a hill of beans especially the NMMA President. If you wish to support him then that is your right. There was a time when the NMMA was a fun organization to belong too. But now its not worth the dirt the racers race on. I would love to see someone take the reins and get the wheels going again. We need new blood and new ideas to keep up with the progression of the sport. Old School thinking won't work any longer.

" The NEW NMMA -- David, 13:41:05 08/28/07 Tue (adsl-66-142-228-122.dsl.kscymo.swbell.net/66.142.228.122)

Changes that I see need to be made to get tracks and racers interested in joining the NMMA again. 1. Give tracks/ track owners/racers more say in what goes on. How?... by listening and applying what works. Many tracks and other organizations have made racing much similar then the way the NMMA is doing (did) it. Over the years good rule proposals were voted down and bad rule proposals voted in...why?... often because of "Self Serving Politics" that did not have the majority in mind or the racer in mind. 2. SIMPLIFY the rule book. I have read the rule book cover to cover numerous times and even with this years revamp its got a long ways to go. When we go race an outlaw tracks they give rules for the class your in and its normally not more then 2 or 3 paragraphs in length. MAKE IT SIMPLE! Toss the current book and start over... stop trying to "fix" something thats not working. 3. The NMMA needs someone to take charge and get Sponsors. There is no reason why the NMMA can not find Cash and Contingencies for a Points Fund. We had one once and after it worked for a year or 2 then the NMMA decided it was taking too much money out of the general fund by offering it...this is FACT! That was the start of the bad that has come to the NMMA. If you call some of the companies/sponsors of that point fund and ask them how they felt about they NMMA not taking care of the racers you will know what I am taling about. 4. The NEW President needs to face the concerns AND complaints head on and not pick and choose what he wants to take issue with. Its not an easy job but someone with communication skills, common sense and a good calm demeanor is vital. Keeping the Racers and tracks at the fore front of good decision making. I personally believe the President should be close to a track thats sanctioned NMMA so he keeps his own interest focused in racing and can be held accountable by atleast some of the drivers face to face. There are many other things that are important but in my view this is a start of what I would like to see and I believe if you put the racer first then the tracks will be seeking out the NMMA. A few years ago I was talking to one of the "National" higher ups and I mentioned how cool it would be to have 20-30 tracks sanctioned NMMA... his comment was... "we have no desire...we want to keep it small and family oriented and keep it low budget so people can afford to race"... I agree on the Family Oriented... but not to grow? Also there are classes for the "Budget racer", but dont try to keep every class in the same income bracket. By the way without saying who told me these things I can tell you he is still in the same position today. Hopefully there is some good POSITIVE comments but all comments are welcome.

A large turnout at Southern IL Raceway brought out some of the fastest racecars and drivers in the region for the Terry Sprague Memorial. The pace was some of the fastest laps that were made on the newly designed track thanks to Richard Poe(promoter) and crew. They have done a lot to make the track and grandstand area better. Phillip Bundren picked up both wins in the Nonwing and the Wing Outlaw Classes with a great run by Scott Britton and Jake Palmisano in the nonwing. Phillip Bundren, Rick King, Jake Palmisano in the outlaw wing.
The winged outlaw was one of the best races I have seen in years as quoted by Mike Phillips, with Rick King and Phillip Bundren swaping leads every half lap running wheel to wheel edge of your seat racing.
We should be proud to know these guys because they set the pace in racing that the rest of us can learn from because where ever you go racing, you will be fast running with these guys. I am sure that Terry Sprague would be proud to have been there to see the large croud, family and frends that turned out in his honor, and we never know, he may have been there? cya!

More than likely not KLP,Most former NMMA members are enjoying their local outlaw tracks. Some of the big name fast dudes are traveling across the country to all the big races. Many of us are racing in POWERi,ASCS2 and at I-30 the one that Dusty Young is promoting.I'm sure the west coast and northeast have their big races as well. With all of this why even bother with the NMMA? These races pay well, the teching is being done, family atmosfere, why want more? Now if Jesus saves the NMMA that will be great,we will run some depending on the new rules until then see ya @ the shootout

The details are not worked out yet, but I believe we will have a meeting the latter part of August of the Board. At that time, the board will make their nominations for President, etc. The current president will open nominations by the membership (NOTE - I said Membership, you have to be a member to nominate anyone by the rules!!) The members will then be able to vote for the new president and/reg. directors, etc. I do not believe that there will be ANY of the current officers left after the meeting. The new president will be in charge. If I am wrong on this, Pat will need to post the correction to what I have said here.

Oh yes, for your information, we DO still have members in the NMMA. If anyone wants to join so they can have a say in this process, they need to contact Mary Ellen Harris to work this out.

I tried to get everybody involved with the process of bringing the NMMA back to life, but noone on the board but Pat McGrath ever replied back to me, and he just replied back with how great the rules package was, and didn't really seem to awful concerned with anything to get tracks to come back to the NMMA. As far as I'm concerned, the NMMA or a sanctioning body needs to be in place, but it's the people running it that's the problem.

Do we have an idea of an exact date and where this meeting will be held? I would like to go but I really need to give a good advanced notice at work if I need time off to go. Let me know as soon as you can, thanks.

" A question for Jim Slade or anyone else that's want's to answer. -- Brent, 20:37:26 07/30/07 Mon (client-67-58-248-63.consolidated.net/67.58.248.63)

This is just a question, so nobody jump down my throat for asking this. I have a lot of guy's that e-mail me or leave posts on Maximum Dirt that want to come and run at Coles County but can't because we don't allow 636's. I'm sure it's been discussed among the officer's, but I don't know enough to give these guy's answer's as to if we might do one or two weekend's and allow them to see how it goes. If we make them add weight and just maybe try it once or twice I don't see the problem, but I don't have to race against them. Like I said I don't have the knowledge or enough experience to say if it's a good idea or not, but I figured I would throw it out there and see what you say. I told them I would go to bat for them and kinda see what the general concensus was among all of you that are weekly racers at Coles County.

Brent
I have no problem with the 636's running at Coles County, but if they want to run at Coles County There would need to be enough of them to run as a seperate class. To pretend like they are the same thing as the 600 multi class, that we now run, would be wrong and unfair to the Loyal core group of 600 multi drivers that we have show up and race each and every weekend, not just when we have a big money race. I personally would love to see the 636's at Coles County, but as I said to pretend like they are the same thing as the 6oo's would be wrong. Just my opinion Respectfully Jim Miller

These are just open 600's. What is a 2mm R6? If you have a 619 rule, that's fine, but we race them all the time over here in Indiana, and they run well, but to my knowledge Sara Elrod just won the first race this season in Indiana with one, I raced a guy's this past weekend, and was it a big motor, sure, but could a good R6 have ran with Sara, absolutely. Why it needs to be another class isn't a smart idea if you ask me for what it's worth.
