" Not to stir... -- Jake, 19:40:53 03/13/07 Tue (dial-159-37.shawneelink.net/206.125.159.37)

I don't wanna cause any problems, and lords know Loretta and I have had our share of disagreements in the past. But you guys (the NMMA) CANNOT run from what's happened. It's pasted all over the other boards and everyone is seeing it. My point is, why not address it and give yourselves a little credibility rather then diminish what little bit you currently have left. I also know that people really shouldn'r meddle in what's not their problem, but with her being the Sec/Tres of the org. it makes it an issue to every NMMA member past or present. I also understand that the board had an emergency meeting? Can you tell us what happened here?

Sorry if i ruffled anyones feathers.....not my point here

Besides, if anyone wants to read the full newspaper article, just "Google" Loretta Esworthy and it's the first thing that comes up. It's news, and it should spark some concern in the membership.

The NMMA a Charity? Were annual dues set up to be donations to this charitably organization? What state was the NMMA registered in? NMMA members could have been claiming dues/fees as annual charitable donations on their personal taxes for the last 50 years. That would have been nice to know!

If one of you were using Vista, our tech coordinator at the high school I teach at, said that Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents made on Vista can't be opened on older operating systems (XP, Me, 2000, Etc).

Kind of an interesting problem that will hit the world.

I think it is time to disable the message board for those that are not promoting the NMMA. People freely post what they want with in the message board and it's only moderated by one or two. There are new things called forums that will allow the membership to communicate easier. Forums can be divided up into events, car parts question's rule questions and so this would make it easier for people to search for certain article. Forums allow for tracking and require an R number or and I number there for you can see who post what and be able to tell if that person was a member. This needs to be done to help keep what have left together!!

I agree with Dwayne. This is the only national public discussion that we have on the club. I strongly support measures to continue a national membership organization. That is the NMMA. Even though the track I usually race at is not sanctioning NMMA races this year I have renewed my membership for organizational support. Everyone's opinion seems valuable to me. The national discussion and the actions various tracks have taken are producing some positive results.
Keep complaining and submitting ideas. The club will change
or it will cease to exist.

Jim, I dont think you can based on the 07' rules as posted here on website. I have copied and pasted it for you, 2nd paragraph last line addresses it.

19. Engine Rules. (4 cycle multi-cylinder engines larger than 250cc but not exceeding 600cc with stock bore & stroke with charging unit.) Minimum car and driver weight 750 lbs.

No porting or heads or cam degreeing. Valve jobs will be allowed as long as they are within mfg. tolerance allowance. Any air cleaner will be allowed. Any exhaust will be allowed. Crank case ventilation to atmospheric pressure only is allowed. No fuel injected motors even if the motor comes stock from the factory with injection.

Carburetors & Fuel

Carburetors must be OEM Production Motorcycle, CV style. No Flatslides or Lectron style carburetors allowed! Carburetors only with an NMMA stamped restrictor under each car boot. Carburetors may have metering rods, jets and springs changed to tune fuel curve to match the car requirements. There will be no cones in the carburetor or the carburetor boots. TPS sensors not required. Only NMMA approved fuels may be used. Unaltered stock OEM CDI black box only. Aftermarket timing advancers are not allowed. Redrilled, slotted or altered cam gears and/or bolts are illegal. Original flywheel must remain in the motor. All original transmission gears must remain intact and functional.

Wow, I have been out of the loop, and understand there is only one NMMA track? I thought things were bad a few years ago when there were 7 or 8, but now that would be a blessing!!!

Someone down below said that there shouldn't be an open forum for disucssion, and allow non members to participate. My question is WHY????

The people that are NOT with the NMMA right now hold the answers! Look at some of the best 600cc tracks in the country right now, and most of them 5 to 7 years ago were NMMA! What happened for them not to stay with a national organization? What happened to the 1500 drivers that were members back in 1999 and 2000? Where did they all go? Where did the car counts go? They went to OUTLAW tracks, there has to be a reason, and for people to sit here blindly and think that they can fix their own problems, that's just flat out morbid. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting the same results. That is exactly what is going on here it seems like. There are way to many smart people on this planet, especially in the racing world, so why can't this be fixed?

My solution? The NMMA board needs to suck it up and head to the big races around the country. The $10,000 to win shows, the Tulsa Shootout, the Outlaw Nationals, all those races, or as many as you can, and early in the day, have an open meeting in the grandstands, take notes, find out what in the world the reasons are that people aren't going with the NMMA right now. Is it the fact that the board is stuck in the past and won't change? Is it the fact that they don't like paying the membership fee? Who knows, all I know is when I first started racing these cars, almost every track had a standard set of rules like the NMMA has. There has to be a way to fix this, and there has to be a way to get car owners, and tracks to come back to the NMMA. This isn't a bash on the NMMA, this is suggestions about what needs to change in order for the NMMA to survive.

I can think of plenty ideas for the NMMA to change ways, and succeed, its just a matter of anybody listening to them.

You're right I am out of the loop, and from looking at the rule changes, the organization is definately going in the right direction, but that still isn't solving the problem. Yes, it's a start, but I haven't seen any board memebers, or anything like that actually ask the drivers and owners what would make them come back to the NMMA. Why not ask then (away from this board) what it would take to come back to the NMMA? Maybe then there is a few things there that nobody thought about.

Billy,
I asked for a month before the shootout for one of the officers to go to the shootout and hold some sort of meeting to try to get some feed back and more intrest. The only officer that showed up was Dean Hathman. He did this on his own and had no support from the NMMA. We had a very brief but informative conversation. Dean was trying to do what he could to save the NMMA. It seemed like he was the only person interested in doing this. All the other officers say that they want to save the NMMA but nobody saw any of them at the shootout. Dean has my respect for spending his own money and time to make the trip, and for listening to what the people wanted and making a effort.
There was alot of post and replies on this subject but that mysterious glitch erased all of them, probally like it will this post.

Joe, I think you have totally missed the point intentionally or not. Please take his suggestions at heart. It's a very important one. What he is trying to tell you is to get involved with 600racing which at this time you are not. Yes you have made some critical & well thought out changes. Congratulations! That is only one step in a thousand ahead of you. But waiting for tracks & sponsors to magically come back isn't going to happen. You need to be at all venues regardless of affiliation. Not just a private meeting out back behind drillers stadium but a visual effort for all to see. You need to advertise in every way you could possibly think of. Here is a question for you to answer. Would you like to be apart of the major 600cc racing functions of 2007? If so, How do you plan on doing this? Sponsorship? Support? Advertise for them? Support the efforts? Would you like to come out and talk to the racers, hold a meetings, have a booth? Simply be involved? Be Visual? Join the racing? This website should be the meca of all Microsprint racing. More information on clubs, tracks, races & venues then anywhere else regardless of affiliation at this time. Instead what do we get?, Evidence of a one track operation & a desperate VP. Needs to be more my friend.
Again I think your changes are great but keep going. You can not stop for one second.

Wade Huisman
600 racer

As leaders you should be perfectly capable of doing these simple promotional tasks. Being involved doesn't seam out of the ordinary or over the top for anyone else that enjoys and spends time & money on this sport. To hire someone for a task that should be easily handled internally seams to be yet again wasteful. Possibly one major problem has been overlooked?

Wade - by your own admission, apparently we haven't been doing a great job promoting the NMMA so I guess you need to put your resume in to Pat. When you talk to him you can ask what it pays and all.

in pennsylvania we have started a restricted class similar to the nmma class but we have restricted fuel injected motors (single injection) we are using a 3/4" hole in the plate similar to the nmma plate. we are getting approx 60 hp out of the motors 636 & 600 they are both the same my question is what are the carb motors (restricted) getting for hp and are there any modifications needed to the carbs for the motors to run properly? we have some teams interested in running the carb motors restricted Thank You .....Wayne Lesher

60 to 62 hp is a strong restrictor motor on carbs. Yes you need to modify the carbs to work with restrictor plates.

You can go to maximumdirt.com and it will have link's to all the chassis manufacturers, some parts retailers and track websites. The NMMA website has a lot of useful links that can pretty much help you find whatever your looking for.

" Rules -- Danny, 19:23:55 02/09/07 Fri (NoHost/70.185.153.228)

It looks like a step in the right direction. The main problem I see is that starting in 2008 the M class is limited to 600cc with no over bore. I personally have 3 motors that I run all 619 cc. I won't buy any motors just to run NMMA. I don't think that any tracks will change their rules and make their drivers buy new motors.
It looks to me that this is a step in the wrong direction. On the East coast they run a 640cc rule. Not sure about the West coast. If the NMMA wants to gain tracks and cars they need to look at leaving this at 619 cc.

You know you two are the only negative ones that I have either talked to or saw on this forum regarding the 600 max. rule. Everyone else I have talked to said that was one of the best rules that we passed. There is just no way to satisfy everyone and we did the best we could so guess we will just have to play it through. Go figure.

Lanny maybe you need to read a little closer at what I wrote. I want you to call all the tracks on the East coast and in Oklahoma and ask them to tell all of their drivers to throw away their 619cc motors and buy new motors.
I bet that they will tell you that you are a idiot. Do you think that it will gain tracks and members by making this rule? Maybe there needs to be a poll taken to see. Most all of the changes were very well thought out. But it seems that on this one someone had their head up their butt. This class was developed and ran beginning in approx. 1990 under the same rules. Now all of a sudden over 15 years later the rules are changed. Every area of the United States runs 619's or larger.
The class was open to 619cc to allow for over bore so that the same Engine could be ran longer.

Negative? I didn’t say that I did not like the 600cc rule I was just putting the FACTS out! I you can’t please everyone. However what sound like a good rule and may be a good rule is not always the best rule. I would point out the spec. left rear, The removal of nose wings and the elimination of the KT100 as just a few examples.

Danny, I have talked to many who also think this is going to be a good step. Have you looked at the cost of boring a motor and have it rechromed? It's right at $1500 just for that alone to gain anywhere from 3 to 8 hp is all. When you can do head work and things around that area and gain the same with less money spent. It will also even out the playing field overall. As for the 640cc rule I think you will see it drop since kawasaki doesn't build the 636 anymore. I have talked to people from the east cost, west coast, and even in oklahoma. The days of the old F3 and boring are almost gone. These include engine builders to common racers. The only thing i see wrong is that they might give it another year to let these 619 cc motors faze out. Just my opinion. And no I'm not 100% for the NMMA yet they still need to prove to me they are ready to work to there fullest extent but what they have done is an excellent start.

[> [> Re: Rules -- Danny, 22:25:44 02/11/07 Sun (NoHost/70.185.153.228)

JD, I supply motors to people on the East coast and know for a fact that they are boring the R6's 2mm. How do you mean the 619's faze out. Once you build them they are good for many years as long as you ring them and watch the valve clearance. I am still have my original 619. It was built in 2003. I also have 2 other motors that are 619's and have never blown one up. You don't have to bore and rechrome the motorto get 619cc. Do you expect me to throw away 3 engines to run with the NMMA. So if I do now I have get 3 more motors @ $1500 each. Have the oiling system worked, and all the modifications made so they will live. Now we have spent $4500 just for engines plus probally another $2500 to do the mods. That is with no port work.
I just can't see it being worth doing. If I wanted to do that I would take off the adjusters and run A' class.
As I stated I can't see the NMMA gaining any East coast, or Oklahoma tracks for this reason. Prove me wrong and call the tracks as I stated and ask them to do away with the 619's and see what response you get.

Danny, I don't doubt anything you are saying about this but my question to you is why are all the best noteable engine builders and a yamaha tech/mechanic in this area telling everyone, and charging everyone, that the cylinder wall has to be rechromed (thats not the correct word for it)? At $1500 of cost per motor to have this all done someone is either lieing and cheating the racers out of money or someone else is wrong I'm not sure. Just a question on the table. Anyone else out there heard this? My thoughts are opinions of mine and of some others I have talked to east, west and central area's of the US and the common thing between all is stay stock bore. I run bone stock bore and stroke and I know of others that do to and are just as fast as the built motors. Like I said my opinion, but would like to know if we are getting cheated with this relining thing.

All modern engines are nikasil lined and have to be renikasil after boring. ?? All I can say is this is what i've been told and reading. I'm just a dumb racer.

[> [> [> Only a matter of time! -- Bill Meredith, 10:59:26 02/12/07 Mon (kcpgw-vip1.kcp.com/198.62.69.76)

I understand your concern about your engines, but I believe the majority of racers are running stock bore and stroke. I know for a FACT that here at Sweet Springs the vast majority of Multi cars are 600cc. Our goal as the micro racing community should be to keep the MAJORITY of the racers happy and thus racing with us. If the lower budget racer feels uncompetitive - he will QUIT and I don't foresee a huge influx of new blood willing to spend $6000 to $8000 on a bored/stroked 619cc or 636cc Yamaha right off the bat!

As far as the status of the 'unlimited' class - look around - it is shrinking in Oklahoma and elsewhere. The Pennsylvania tracks will be running a 'stock' 600cc class for the first time this year - why is that? -- COST of the engines and remember Pennsylvania has NEVER had a true OPEN class!!!

Once again, the rules allowed engine builders to escalate the cost rapidly and we are now on the verge of killing another class!

The 636cc formula should be killed off ASAP (let them have a year) and the 619cc engine needs to go away also - maybe not 2008, but I would at least PENALIZE them in 2008 (with added weight) to help faze them out.

If we do not put some limitations to reduce cost of this class - the racers will do it for us. I give it one to two more years before the 'unlimited' class will be near extinct and the 'stock' class (with tire and wing rules) will be the BIG class. The cost of 619cc to 636cc engines will make it so! Is losing the Multi Class a big deal - I don't think so - the A-Class and Multi Class needs to be combined anyway.

The Math is pretty simple:

BIG engines + BIG soft tires + BIG wings = BIG money and inevitable demise of the 'unlimited' class. Been there - done that!

I predict that tire, wing rules and maybe even more restrictive engine rules will be implemented at the $10,000 to win races over the next few years to keep car counts from dropping.

Enjoy your 619cc and 636cc engines while you can - I sure wouldn't drop a ton of money into any more of them!

It don’t look like the any thing has changed with the 4 tracks in Indiana they have their schedules are set, I have not contacted Ohio or Michigan tracks as yet but I seriously doubt the NMMA has a chance with them. As for 2008 season the 600 motor rule will be the one of the deal breakers. Most of the changes that were made were brought to the attention of the board in August. That is when the changes should have been made not after a mass exodus of tracks!

The question about the price of tires is a good one. Dean Hathman asked the Hoosier representative the same question at the meeting. The simple answer is $0.

The Hoosier representative handed out the 2007 tire pricing from Hoosier Tire Midwest along with their proposal. The price of Hoosier tires from Hoosier Tire Midwest have not changed because of and will not change because of the contract offered to the NMMA. The prices for tires from Hoosier Tire Midwest were decided and published in their catalog months ago, whether or not the NMMA, or any other sanctioning body, accepted an offer of financial contribution from Hoosier.

" Pictures of Champions for Web Page -- Webmaster, 15:06:34 02/05/07 Mon (12-207-154-138.client.mchsi.com/12.207.154.138)

We are trying to update the web page and need pictures of the Champions. We asked at the end of the racing season and the only one that responded was the Jr. Sprint Class.
So, one more time. Please send a picture and a short 2 or 3 paragraph to the NMMA Web Master so we can put it on.
Everyone else,please understand"I can't put on what I don't have".

" Bear with us -- Lanny Harvey, 09:20:24 02/03/07 Sat (NoHost/204.120.195.43)

Everyone bear with us. We are still refining a few of the items voted on at the spring meeting. We will get in on in it's entirety as soon as we can.

" What happened in St. Louis? -- Brent, 12:15:20 01/30/07 Tue (client-216-176-81-143.consolidated.net/216.176.81.143)

Does anyone know how thing's went in St. Louis? What was voted on and what decisions were made? I had to work or I would have been there. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The NMMA meeting in St. Louis was VERY Productive. MANY changes were made. I have compiled my notes and sent them to Loretta to go over to see if I missed anything. As soon as I get her response, I'll post a summary here.

Richard Kreisel
Region 11 Chairman

If you will all just be patient, we will get all the changes on the board. Like Richard K. said, we have a lot to get updated and we think everyone will appreciate what we did. It was a long day and we don't want to post anything untile we make sure that we have it right.

Dwayne, since I am not an officer, I can't guarantee anything. I do think that Garden City and every other track should look at what we did and keep an open mind. We really did a lot and will probably do more but we definitely have made a good start. I hope we do rejoin the NMMA and a lot of other tracks too.
