Subject: Household tips

Don't know if this qualifies as a "discussion thread" based on what Araninda posted below, but at least it might give us all a chance to chime in....

What are some of your best household tips? Tips for cleaning, organizing, and generally making life simpler, or more resourceful.

Here are two from me:
1) when you're really feeling cold in bed, lay a fleece blanket UNDER you. It holds in the warmth from your body and allows it to wrap back around you.
2) to get lotion on that unreachable part of your back that itches like crazy when the skin is dry, squirt some lotion on the back side of a back-scratcher and swipe it on.

Okay, your turn!

[> Cleaning tip - teach husband to do laundry and dishes! Okay so not so serious, I have thought and thought and come up blank to any neat tips. My question to add to tips is did you find them or were they something your mother did when you were younger? I find I am more and more like my mother the old er I get. -- usmgrad, I really need some helpful hints how about it ladies, 19:44:02 04/10/13 Wed [1]

[> A 'household tip' I came upon as I was clearing out my cupboards was to use the 'errant' plastic lids of old plastic containers as 'cutting boards' for the odd piece of fruit or veg (especially onions). I was going to throw these lids out anyway and then I got the brainstorm to re-cycle them for this purpose. After a dozen or so times, I pitch them anyway! -- mj, 01:21:30 04/11/13 Thu [1]

[> Always like to learn new 'tips'. The above will be quite useful. No real hints from me, except that I need to win a lottery then I could hire out all the chores! -- carramor, 15:05:36 04/12/13 Fri [1]

[> wine stains - when you spill wine on the dining room table - which someone alwys does during the holidays - sprinkle penty of salt on the spot - enough to cover -leave it there during the dinner. do not shake it out - toss in laundry as usual and stain is gone- voila. : ) -- chris k, 05:50:18 04/13/13 Sat [1]

[> I'm not sure if this qualifies as a tip... but I find it useful. When I have a big project, especially straightening or clearing out, and/or if I'm really tired or discouraged, I will tell myself to "take care of five things." (Inside) -- Deemus, 16:41:02 04/14/13 Sun [1]

Small a task as that is, it at least gets something started. I can come back by later and take care of five more things, and eventually, it makes a visible difference. I find that the bigger the job, the harder it is to get started on it. It's a lot harder to tell myself I don't have time now, if it's only five things.

[> [> I even do that when emptying the dishwasher.Put up 5 things and I usually do more, but I know I can quit if I want. Everytime I walk thru the kitchen. It seems silly but it works for me. Breaking things into smaller chores. -- manette, 09:55:24 04/15/13 Mon [1]

[> I made a list for my self of "Things I can do in 5, 10, 15 minutes". Say it's 10 minutes before my show starts, I can look at the list and see a group of things I can do - start a load of laundry, for example. In 5 min or less I can empty a trash can, pay a bill, etc. And I try to do things as quickly as I can. -- The Chief, 10:15:46 04/15/13 Mon [1]
