[> Yes, hi DOS -- I live close to London! Well, for starters -- you can't do all that in 1 day -- lol! Stonehenge is quite a ways from London -- 2 hours, at least and, imo, isn't worth the trip! I would recommend visiting Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, or even the Dickens house (being that it's his 200th birthday this year) instead -- inside for more -- -- mj, 13:12:43 02/07/12 Tue [1]

or try to visit a couple of those. You will see Big Ben and Westminster, anyway as it's so central to everything. There's also the National Gallery and the British Museum (my favorite) with the famous Burroughs Market nearby.Hotels -- plenty of fabulous ones -- what's your budget!? The great ones are pricey -- The Ritz, The Savoy, The Brown, The Dorchester. The Marriott in Marble Arch is a good one and not so expensive. Where is your conference? The most important thing is to get a hotel near your venue. Let me know!

[> I've never been there, but if I did the the chance, in addition to MJ's list above, I would be interested in seeing the beautiful church where William and Kate got married. -- JAG Junkie (Ronda), 17:36:14 02/07/12 Tue [1]

[> [> William and Kate were married at Westminster Abbey, I believe one can just go into the church while at St. Paul's -- which is another church worth visiting (and where the American Thanksgiving service is held every year) you now have to buy tickets!!! I think the 'Occupy St. Paul's' people are still there! -- mj, 00:25:11 02/08/12 Wed [1]

[> [> [> Isnīt it the other way around? Last time I went (awhile ago, when the last Harry Potter book came out- never seen such a line in front of a bookstore before!) you could only get into the front hall of Westminster Abbey without paying quite some money, but St. Paulīs was free. Has that changed? -- Jam, 11:41:01 02/08/12 Wed [1]

[> I will be there Mon the 28th thru June 3rd. My venue is at a hotel in Hyde Park area. I am not so concerned as staying there because I think it would be wiser to be near the places I want to go and see. I figure that Mon and Tue along with Fri and Sat will be major site seeing days. I know SH might be boring but at least I can say I saw it. Plus seeing the country side by train would be relaxing -- DOS - food, I will be wating my budget and since I am gluten intolerant it should prove fun eating. Work is paying for hotel but I need to be cost aware, 08:30:02 02/08/12 Wed [1]

[> [> In that case, combine Stonehenge with a visit to Salisbury. The town is quite pretty with a very beautiful cathedral. (My favorite among those Iīve visited in Britain, probably because itīs design is simpler, not so pompous (for lack of a better word, but I know very little about art and architecture) -- Jam, 11:44:58 02/08/12 Wed [1]

[> There's a gluten-free aisle in all the markets, here -- Waitrose, Morrisons', Tesco, and M&S and I'm pretty sure you can ask for meals gluten-free in restaurants. Sure, go on a Stonehenge tour -- I think you can best book at the concierge at your hotel -- I would contact them ahead of time and price these excursions so you can allocate your time, budget, and decisions. London is expensive, that's for sure. Feel free to contact me, too -- maybe I'll dash into London and meet you for lunch or a 'cuppa'. -- mj, 10:03:50 02/08/12 Wed [1]

[> Take the train to Windsor, a pretty town and the gorgeous Windsor Castle. When I was there (years ago) the public could tour the castle. I'm not sure if it's currently open. -- jan, 19:41:35 02/09/12 Thu [1]

[> [> Yes, jan, Windsor is still open for the public. It IS a lovely little town and worth the trip. Hampton Court is also really a cool place to visit -- this is where Henry VIII lived and held court. There are regular guided tours daily and gives one the total history of England in one place. The gardens are magnificnet and if you go on a Sunday, you can hear the Boys Choir sing at the morning service. It is also a beautiful village. -- mj, 00:14:44 02/10/12 Fri [1]

[> There also are Wells & Bath. I keep good memories of these places. -- Laurence, 02:07:06 02/10/12 Fri [1]

[> Don't forget to catch a west end show, book early there are some good ones around! Anyone know if the V&A has a show on. Crown Jewels are always worth seeing. -- Lurks, 14:29:10 02/13/12 Mon [1]

[> V&A has diamond jubilee show on. There are some diamond jubilee events and a double bank holiday at the beginning of June. Not sure if Buckingham Palace will be open during this time.. -- S.Mac, 14:34:36 02/13/12 Mon [1]
