He saw the pain in her face before she got to hide it, he heard the tears in her voice and it tore at his heart. With a low groan of pain for her, he shifted to tug her into his arms and then into his lap, wrapping her in the blanket tighter, holding her close. His head ducked to bury into her hair, taking in the fresh scent of her that reminded him of sunshine in spring, his own voice a little rough when he spoke. "It's three months, I'll be home after that, I promise you." It wasn't good to promise things like that but now he would have even more reason to fight harder and come home in one piece. "Come on, buck up baby girl, Ooh-rah and all that, huh?" He forced a slight smile, ducking his head down to gaze at her pretty face for a moment. It was a good thing his emotions were running high, otherwise he would be to focused on the way she felt in his lap, against his bare chest...yeah, that could definitely be a problem but he was focused on this calming her down stuff, caring for her emotions.
