Let's see if I have this right, may have to go back and re-read. Adam asked that Darroc's punishment be mortality. Maybe the Unseelie king thought to use Darroc for his own and re-empowered him? There is a lot of lore in Ireland concerning the characters of the Unseelie (although they go by a different term). He could be very old and very well read / good at listening to oral stories. I think that he's somehow more-than-mere-human would be a good guess.
