[> i agree, often at ordinary feis i've only seen one vendor selling wigs and stuff, do vendors only want to do big feis like majors and dont consider ordinary feis worth their time, -- more choice please, Fri, Feb 16 2007, 2:22:34 [1]

[> [> perhaps it is a case of some of the vendors not knowing about the feis, or that the associated costs of being there are simply not worth their effort ..after all unless they already have a child dancing in the particular feis then it is a specific trip for them..and if it is a smaller feis with likelyhood of small sales there is a good chance the trip would end up costing them money... thereby forcing htem to raise prices even more - it is a vicious circle... I guess they have to weigh up the pros and cons of each feis and consider whether it is viable for them. At least you get vendors - I have to send away interstate or overseas and trust catalogues and internet... -- Lee in Darwin, Fri, Feb 16 2007, 5:16:43 [1]

[> [> [> Hey Lee, hope you're well. I have to say after speaking to a couple of vendors, they are told they cannot be accomadated because certain other vendors are paying 500.00 up front to keep other vendors OUT. Thats ok for the vendor to pay the 500.00 but what about our choice. Not evreryone has a credit card etc. So I'd like to go to a feis see a CHOICE and get what I'd like -- only my lil opinion., Fri, Feb 16 2007, 10:22:29 [1]

[> [> [> [> OMG .. paying to keep the competition OUT.. they mustn't be very confident of their product. If they did that here in Australia it would raise eyebrows with Consumer Affairs...I don't have a credit card either so I use Paypal (can be linked to a normal bank account ) or I also have Debit only Visa . .which means I have to put cash into it to be able to use it... it does stop you from overspending..lol. -- Lee in Darwin, Sat, Feb 17 2007, 5:41:42 [1]

[> [> it's only better to order online when you know exactly what you want, then there is the wait for delivery and if the item isn't right, having to send it back, the cost of which isn't always covered by the seller. And you can't browse the same way online, it's nice to physically pick things up and check them. When it comes to wigs and shoes, especially, they need to be tried on. I personally do buy a lot online and mostly from overseas because of price, but used to always wander round different vendors at feis and buy something I just like. Now with feis so often only having one vendor I don't bother. If what the other post says is true, then that is really bad. That one vendor can block others from a feis like that. Shame on feis organisers who go along with it. So much for parents ONCE AGAIN being allowed choice. Even the most oganised people can have problems on the day and need to use vendors, then we need choice. Money running ID? -- more choice, Fri, Feb 16 2007, 15:27:28 [1]

[> It's because feis only allow one of each commodity at the feis, mostly due to space. It's well known amongst feis vendors that one particular vendor will offer more money for the pitch than others may be able to afford. Even complains if anyone new comes in, who's not even selling anything remotely similar to what they do! Been there and decided it wasn't worth the hassle with this particular vendor even tho my stock was nothing at all to do with what they sold. Other vendors work the feis between them, which is how it should be. -- retired feis vendor, Fri, Feb 16 2007, 15:47:21 [1]

[> [> Do the feis orgnaisers get paid for the space they rent out? I have only seen the vendors at 2006 NANs (but I expected more than twere there) so I wouldn't know firsthand. .. Personally I would think that the more vendors / variety the more people would browse etc and that would mean the chances are more people are going to attend the feis in the first place .. which of course rolls around to more money for the feis organisers - doesn't it? -- Lee in Darwin, Sat, Feb 17 2007, 5:45:51 [1]

[> [> [> I would have thought this made sense, I am more inclined to browse when there is more choice of who to buy from. Maybe it is because of internet buying options that vendors are reluctant to attend as many feis. A shame for people with no internet access, no consumers choice for them. -- wishwillow, Sat, Feb 17 2007, 17:29:40 [1]

[> [> [> Some feis organisers ask for a donation, others expect at least 10% of your takings, others ask for a flat fee....one feis I did expected £150 for the w/e. I spent over £900 on stock for that one, thinking we'd be in a prime position, but no, we were stuck out of the way and I took less than £100 Feis organiser wasn't too pleased when I could only offfer him £10, but not as miffed as myself who had paid for 2 nights in a hotel, petrol from over 200miles away, dancers feis entries and meals etc...I went home, as you can imagine, out of pocket and totally deflated :o( -- retired feis vendor, Sun, Feb 18 2007, 18:04:29 [1]

[> Being completely practical for a moment, remember that for feis vendors this is their livelihood. If they travel 300 miles or so and spend two days on their stalls plus loading and unloading their vans, they need to make a profit on all of that or they go hungry. Now, if there are two similar vendors at an ordinary feis there will almost certainly not be enough customers to go around. If you were a feis vendor, and you knew another vendor was going to a feis, would YOU go? -- I wouldn't, Sat, Feb 17 2007, 12:34:42 [1]

[> [> I think the gist of the conversation is that other vendors are being ought out by one particular one in person, they'd love to go to feis and give parents and children the opportunity of CHOICE but aren't being allowed its not about them not making enough money they aren't being given the opportunity to earn any -- my thoughts, Sat, Feb 17 2007, 21:33:26 [1]
