Date Posted: 8/01/08 2:47pm In reply to: Keith Greenway 's message, "SS. Essex Convoy" on 6/01/08 8:49pm Keith, I cannot trace anything about the mutiny but the vessel has an interesting history. Built in 1922 in Danzig as the "Theresa Horn" for a German company she was of 5,386 grt. 404 ft x 52ft. sold in 1924 to the Essex Line who in 1939 owned only one other vessel, she received the name "Essex Envoy" and continued to trade with them until 1939 when she was sold to another German company in Hamburg and renamed "Hermod". She suffered from the attentions of the Allied air force in 1943 and sank in Hamburg Harbour. She was raised in 1950 and reconditioned remaining in service for the German company until 1958 when she was broken up in her home port. There is a picture of her in her guise as the "Hermod" on the web should your enquirer want it. Hope this fills in some facts for you. Ray Lloyd.
