Date Posted: 26/12/07 11:28am In reply to: David 's message, "Beauford Dyke" on 9/12/07 6:45am I have seen several articals about the dumping of ammnunition at the end of the second world war at Beaford Dike, including photos' of servicemen wheeling ammnunition on wheelbarrows across deck on temporary raised timber platforms to be tipped into the sea from landing craft. My uncle Tom was a coastal skipper- a civilian on a ship that was paid by the load to dump in as many trips as possible in the shortest time. The story was that to make the quick turn around they often cut the run out to the 'Gap'short to increase the volume and hence thier pay!
