sloppy too big pants, shapeless vests, shirts hanging out, all look to me to shout-"someone who isn't really prepared". Maybe totally not true, but I think it is the first impression given to the judges. That being said, in larger comps, such as Worlds, i think it is helpful to stand out a bit. Not necessarily with a ton of bling, but some classic or trendy look that catches the eye. My ds has never gone for really flashy-this last outfit being the most with his vest being a blue toned zebra stripe look. Now for Nationals, we are back to a very classy black and white look. Stylish, well put together is more important, IMHO, than all the bling in the world.
I personally feel that no one has ever judged him on his outfit. It has always been about the dancing

[> [> [> [> [> [> I would agree. Well fitting dresses, or pants/vests/shirts, good quality, neat. Ask yourself - does this dancer LOOK like a winner? Just like an interview - 1st impressions are not everything, but they can be very important (inside) -- Human nature, 08:11:01 06/11/09 Thu [1]

It is just an impression thing. I have found it is about the dancing, but the right impression to start off is better so the dancer doesn't have to overcome that subjective impression at the outset. Presentation, presentation, presentation.

Like a cake - if it looks good, you want to try it. If it doesn't look so good, it may be equally delicious, but you are less likely to give it a try.
