In the books, Hogwarts is (likely) located in Scotland. I think it was filmed at several places, including Alnwick Castle in Northumberland. You can also take the Hogwarts Express route from Fort William to Mallaig - we took this route before it was used in the film and it is spectacular! They filmed the flying car sequence near here. Fort William is about 110 miles from Glasgow.
