I'm not here to say who is right or wrong with their opinions on the booster club. But I did want to elaborate on a few things.

There is usually a training camp meeting between the board and team to introduce the board and make the players feel comfortable about asking for assistance with certain things. It gives them some them a face in the crowd to go to. If every single member of the membership controlled the check book or housing supply there would be a lot of diversity in what was given. Each apartment receives the same set-up, special request for ironing boards or extra blankets are made and accomodated as allowed. That is the only private Board / Team function that I have ever been made aware of in years past.

The comments about the Mardi Gras ball, there was / is a reception for the players and the court with the board. The board is there to make sure the set-up is right, the food is there and the event is ready to role when the doors open. This is customary for Mardi Gras Ball's. Alchol and finger foods are usually provided. The consumption of alchol is dependent upon that player not the the board or any other member. A limo picks up the King, not uncommon for the alchol consumption to have started before the Limo even gets there. The armbands were to mark who had access to the free bar (players and their guest), board members were not included in the free drinks, it was a BYOB event as it always has been.

The photographer was there for everyone to have pictures taken if they wanted and to PAY for the shots they got, they also had the option of reviewing all the pictures from the evening and ordering from the nights catalog. The photographer made his money by selling the photos, yes he was hold up in a seperate room but for lighting, the back drop, his camera set-up and printing set-up he had to be.

I've never heard of a Booster Member or Board Member requesting money from another Member for anything other than Membership dues, 50/50 or bus trips. If you choose to participate in the extra functions such as the Halloween, Secret Fan program, or Thanksgiving there is an understanding you will be spending extra money in either buying candy and decorations, buying a gift or cooking a dish.

Quite often, at least in the past, there usually was not enough members to help cover all the Halloween Tables or even Secret Fan gifts and some individuals would offer to double up to make sure each player got equal footing. And also unfortunately you have individuals that agree to do something and either forget or decide not to come through and don't think it's important to give anyone any advance notice.

Voting, there is usually a board member perferrably an outgoing member supervising the counting of the ballots with two members. The ballots are usually with the Secretary and at least used to be open for review.

Do I agree with every decision the board makes, no. That's why there is an election and quite often the membership wants the events but don't want to get into the course of making the things happen and very few people throw there hat in to run.

Join, don't join hopefully that will be a decision you will have to make next year.
