Subject: another weekend down

It was a sad start to our weekend. Kate was still getting over a cold on Friday, so we pushed back the ribs a week so that we both can enjoy it. Instead, we ordered pizza and ice cream. The pizzas here are much smaller but just as expensive. I'm still searching for the best delivery pizza in town.

Saturday was a day at IKEA and two other shops that you wouldn't know (no offense!). By the end of the day, we walked away with 3 of IKEA's cheapest, yet functionally sufficient, wardrobes, a TV stand, 3 bathroom cabinets, a 1 m by 60 cm kitchen counter/cabinet unit for extra storage and counter space, a 7x10 rug for our bedroom, and 9 light fixtures. It was a huge haul and I had no idea how long it was going to take for us to put everything together. Surprisingly, it only took me two days to learn the answer. I took Monday off from work and we completed all the furniture construction by 6 pm yesterday.

We are finally in a position with all this furniture to put the apartment in the way we want it to be. The only thing remaining is to install the 9 light fixtures this coming weekend. This should not be difficult once I figure out how to read my German fuse box.

Saturday night we went out with some Germans. I ended up starting with a beer, then moved to vodka/cokes and then to rum/cokes as the night progressed. The liquor was pre-paid by the Germans, so it was all I could do to help them out. I'm so nice! This place had good burgers too. Germany is not known to have good burgers, but this place is definitely one of the two places I would go back to. Speaking of meat, one thing Germans are very poor at are steaks. They cut the meat far too thin to cook a steak properly (everything comes out well done) and I don't even bother looking at steaks on a menu.
