Date Posted: 14:54:29 06/01/12 Fri I hope that dream team show has lots of practice footage in it. From what I understand, those scrimmages were better than the actual olympic games. There will never be another team like that. By far the greatest. Jen and I watched the first two episodes of Girls last night. Not sure what to think of it. Jen is intrigued. I enjoy the ugly people sex and the super hot Allison Williams. |

Date Posted: 16:07:40 05/31/12 Thu Heaves here. My boss leaves for vacation for 2 weeks starting tomorrow. Before he left, he told me our new target and instructed me to go through the interwebs and find infringing products on our patents. Oh boy oh boy! The weather has been off and on nice/shitty. It's rained every day this week but the storms come and go fairly quickly after dumping tons of rain. Oh, marble-size hail is common too. I found a place that sells peanut butter here. I've looked up some mexican and chinese places that have good reviews that I might check out this weekend. I met two Germans who spent a year abroad in London. Their English is quite good so I might give them a ring this weekend to get some beers. My TV list was good then, no? |

Date Posted: 12:38:01 05/31/12 Thu i dont think jono is referring to only the lottery. the heat cavs series certainly looks to be fixed. Even the pacer heat series looked to be fixed. Im not saying i think it is, but I do think the nba does whatever influencing it can to get the outcome it wants. Here are some examples off the top of my head - rondo no call in last nights game - haslem none ejection in pacers game - heat are the only teams still getting "regular season" calls rather than only getting "playoff basketball" calls. - technical fouls dished out in game 1. |

Author: vert [ Edit | View ] |
Date Posted: 12:11:51 05/31/12 Thu You can make the case for the NBA being fixed based on multiple scenarios happening, so therefore fixing is a dumb arguement. -Nets wins or Proko has Stern wacked. -Cavs win because of Lebron debacle and Gilbert still owed a pick. -Bobcats wins because of it's Jordan and he gets what he wants. -Kings get it as payback for not getting a new stadium. |

It is a Victory Hop Devil IPA clone that I need to bottle. I'm a little disappointed with my Black Ale that I tried to make. It is now a Brown Ale. Interesting note about all the beer I've been making. DFH by far has the most homebrew-friendly bottles I've used. The labels come off quite easily and don't leave a lot of residue. Were any disclosure agreements signed? Anything to cover them? I am honestly not sure. Bill Gates did back when he made a deal with IBM many a year ago. Even so, to completely discount everything he did with Facebook after that point appears to me as unfair. Being smarter and better than the other guy doesn't make you a dick, it makes you, well, smarter and better than the other guy. Speaking of smarter, how about getting married AFTER the IPO hit? Date Posted: 22:06:56 05/29/12 Tue Vic, my humble opinion on Facebook is that it is a solid long-term investment, given what I have read on the management core, as well as Zuckerberg. Mark has solid mentors and allies, including Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer, and Peter Thiel. Additionally, his management staff include individuals such as Sheryl Sandberg (Google), who have solid experience dealing with the very things Facebook is worried about not capitalizing on. He has GOVERNMENTS that use him to provide influence on elections, legislation, etc., by helping them communicate to their people. The people Zuck is tied to, along with the constant innovation that he and his group practices (hack-a-thons, etc.), I think, in my opinion, that this is a solid company that has a bright and lucrative future ahead of it, and could possibly get as high as triple digits in the stock a few years from now. I am not going to listen to the speculators, and I know for a fact that Morgan Stanley's actions, along with the snafu that NASDAQ pulled, had an impact on the IPO. Honestly, we can go back and forth on this, but I like FB in my opinion, and I think it will be able to perform well in the mobile market. The fundamentals are there in my opinion, and I think it is a solid long term investment. |

Date Posted: 17:56:01 05/29/12 Tue Not to worry Chin. You can redeem yourself by being around either July 7th or 21st weekends in DC. I'll be around for those weekends. I slept a ton this past weekend. I sprained my ankle two weekends ago on the cobblestones that the Germans decided to use instead of smooth, predictable concrete. I was drunk so that didn't help and my ankle rolled. I hobbled the remaining 3 blocks to my hotel room and passed out. This past Saturday I did some walking and biking around the city, and my ankle started bothering me on Sunday so I took it easy the rest of the weekend. My plantar faciitus also flared up. Bah! I'm a mess. I'm feeling good today though. Work is good. Easy breezy. I typically put in 9 hour days + lunch. I can build up time to use as leave (30 vacation days isn't enough!). So each extra hour is going into my bank to use for a long weekend. This works out nicely since Kate isn't here. I should have a few days worth stored up by the time I go back to the States on 6/30. I've made a list of tv series to download when I get back home. This list includes: Dexter Arrested Dev Modern Fam Parks and Rec Mad Men Game of Thrones Workaholics The League Sons of Anarchy Boardwalk Empire The Killing Rome Top Gear Archer How I met your mother Battlestar Gallactica Firefly Friday night lights Party down The office UK Girls Is there anything else to add? Kate will probably want to add some law/police/crime shows. The shield? What else? |

Date Posted: 15:55:17 05/29/12 Tue so last sat i woke up after hanging out with some friends and having a few drinks the night before. It was nothing that would have me hungover the next day but sat morning i woke up and the room was spinning non stop. Even when I have been my drunkest I had never experienced a spinning sensation quite as severe as this. I figured for some reason my body was having a tough time processing the alcohol the night before so I tried to sleep it off. Pretty much ended up sleeping the entire day and night sat and sun I woke up with the same sensation. At this point, my body was so worn down I could barely move around. Soon after my body was so worn down from the spinning that I started puking pretty much every half hour. At this point I headed for the ER where I was diagnosed with a severe case of Vertigo. Trust me you DO NOT want to experience this. It was awful. Imagine doing that thing where you put your forehead on a bat and ten spin ten times and the sensation immediately after you put your head back up. Now imagine having that sensation non stop for 72 hours. Yup, WORST THING EVER. After the spinning subsided I was still left with lightheadedness and blurred vision all last week. That is starting to subside as well now but quick head movements and physical activity will cause it to come back. I am going to follow up with my physician but I am guessing she will tell me that I just have to wait it out. So anyways, thats why I havent been on the board lately. Did some catching up on what you kids have been chatting about. - Heaves, I am not available july 28th weekend but dont plan things around me. - That kyrie irving thing was awesome and im not just saying that cuz hes a dukie. - Facebook... Joo, what about facebook makes it appealing to you? I am very bearish on facebook, especially with how ridiculously high the IPO price was. It was outrageous. In case anyone cares I currently bullish on Google - duh. This is just a safe pick to diversify portfolios with Apple - ditto Fusion IO - this got hit a bit with the Facebook hit due to FB being it's biggest client. But if you feel cloud computing is going to be the future then fusion io is going to be one of the leading technologies to get us there. This is prob my favorite stock currently and has the biggest chunk of my portfolio. I bought in at 22 and have an order to get more at 18.50 if europe causes it to get there. Ford - 420 hp, v8 mustang = 26 mpg highway. Synch technology. Didnt need a bailout during the crisis. Starbucks - They are getting into the k-cup business which green mountain roasters has shown can be very lucrative. Also they are expanding worldwide, especially in asia. Even domestically, if you just walk into a starbucks you can see from all the people in there plugged into their laptops that their "2nd home" approach is working. As working remotely becomes more and more the norm with our society, more and more people will flock to starbucks. If anyone has stocks they are currently bullish on let me know so I can research it and decide if I want to add it to my watch list. |

Author: vert [ Edit | View ] |
Date Posted: 13:04:08 05/29/12 Tue So I was back in PA from Wednesday - Sunday. We celebrated my Dad's 60th Bday with a surprise party on Saturday. I also managed to golf with Lukey, his dad, and Weary on Friday. Mr. Hafer was kind enough (Thank you sir) to let me borrow his left handed clubs. I hit the irons fairly well but continue to suck at chipping. It's costing me 10-15 strokes per round. Also, I couldn't get a feel for his putter and 3 putted quite a few greens. Here's an interesting story from my trip home on Sunday. Those of you on Twitter already know some of the details. As we're heading back to the gate, I check Twitter and see that Ricky Rubio posted a message about watching the game while waiting for his cousin. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/ricky-rubio-watches-nba-playoffs-while-spinning-around-145614582.html I notice that the tweet was 3 minutes ago so he obv still in the airport. I was in row 5 so I hurried off the plane and went to the sports merchanise store that's right outside my gate. I looked at hats ($40) and ended up buying a $5 pennant in hopes of getting it autographed. I walk down to baggage claim and it's crowded as a few flights have just arrived (we had a weather delayed landing). I walked down to the end of baggage claim and don't see him. On my walk back, I spot a beared dude in a tank top and it's him (the ppl he was picking up were on my flight). Right next to us is a small flower kiosk. I run over to the desk, ask to borrow a sharpie and in the meantime, Rubio has made his way to the escalator to the parking garage. I hop on the escalator and am about 5 people behind him. We get to the bottom and I walk past a few people and get next to him. I look over and say, "Hey Ricky, would you mind signing this for me?" and hand him the pennant and marker. He says "Sure man, no problem." I tell him I'm a fan and that I saw his post on Twitter. He laughs and then I ask him how his knee is doing. He said it's getting better and I wrap it up with a handshake and a "good luck next season". After I returned the pen, I went right back down the same escalator and could still see him in the distance. No one else seemed to recognize him. I wasn't too surprised since he's not overly tall and he's is just a lanky Spanish dude with a thick beard. The pennant is now hanging in my office behind my desk. |

We really didn't start doing the rice cereal until right before we started him on baby foods b/c he was eating huge bottles and still being hungry. I'm not much help there. I guess these procedures take a while to get used to coming from a small private firm that is for all intents and purposes easy to manage. |

Date Posted: 15:51:07 05/23/12 Wed You could set up a machine in the US and then remotely control it via VNC or Remote Desktop. Then you could SFTP the files to yourself. The SFTP will take longer since you aren't getting the swarm benefit adn the encryption overhead, but this is very straightforward. Just need to forward a couple ports on the router firewall in the US. |

Date Posted: 12:56:26 05/23/12 Wed Does anyone know German law? Didn't think so. I am unsure what the German tolerance is for downloading movies/tv/music/books for free, but if it's anything like other laws here, it's probably very low. So this leaves me with exploring my options. I could try a private torrent site. I have an invite from TVtorrents, but could never get the thing to work in VA because I couldn't figure out how to forward my port. And piratebay worked well with peer guardian so whatever. I'm not sure if this is an option. Can I use a VPN for this? Any ideas how to set this up or what this would cost? Alternatively, I make massive amounts of downloads each time I go back to the US. I signed a lease for an apartment today. It's new construction. 3 bedrooms. 2 full baths. Open kitchen. Nice view of the railroad tracks. Choo-choo! It's about 15 minutes bikable to work, which I'm super excited about doing...until November-March. Otherwise, by train, my commute will be about 30-35 minutes door-to-door. It's really nice biking in the city. Which is probably why so many people do it. That and cars are 2x more expensive than in the US, plus gas is 2.5 times more expensive. I start my German language classes on Friday. I think July 28th is the best for doing something in Philly while I'm back. Can people check their calendars and let me know if that does or does not work? July 7th might also work. |

Furthermore, the song just bugs me. Also, as a musician, I take music seriously and don't believe that quality is merely "subjective". Besides, Jono, CLEARLY my opinions on that song are towards people I don't know well. My opinion of you has always been shitty (jk!!!) Well, at least I brought some life to the board. |

Date Posted: 15:32:53 05/22/12 Tue 1. Heard on a podcast recently that in the NFL, un-drafted free agents get signed for as little as $500. $500!!! I had no idea how this worked and I am astounded that it is that low. Of course, if they make the team they will make more money, but still. If teams are trying to sign the same FA, it can get bid up. An example given on the pod was Tony Romo, who signed as an un-drafted FA for $25K. 2. Been listening and reading The Basketball Jones a lot. I know I'm way late to the party, but if you like the NBA, you need to check out what these dudes are doing. Anyway, the did a thing on their Friday pod comparing current NBA players to original Mario Kart players (inspired by this: http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1124656/AtGu-BnCMAIhC5C.jpg). Here is my list (some of which I may or may not have stolen from the TBJ discussion) & I welcome all other lists: - Princess Peach: Lebron, b/c he's a bitch. - Donkey Kong, Jr.: Melo, b/c he is a little pudgy/heavy but brings the pain like his dad (DK/Bernard King) - Bowser: Dwight Howard, b/c he's an athletic giant who is also the worst/hated by everyone - Koopa Troopa: Kobe, b/c of the hard shell exterior with a workmanlike dedication who keeps coming and coming (analogous to the KT shell that comes to get you after you think you've killed the KT). In this example, Michael Jordan would be King Koopa. - Mario: This was the hardest one, IMO. Derrick Rose is logically the fit b/c what they both lack in intelligence (Mario:Italian plumber::Derrick Rose:invalidated SAT score) they make up for in niceness, determination, ball-so-hard-ness and likability. - Luigi: Durant, for obvious reasons with the main one being they are pretty much the exact same person in body type and athletic ability (think Super Mario 2 Luigi) as well as second-fiddle-ness (both in being the #2 to Lebron in terms of best NBA players alive, and the sometimes #2 option behind Westbrook on OKC) - Toad: Chris Paul, b/c he's quick & little. Would also accept tony Parker or Ty Lawson or Ricky Rubio here. - Yoshi: Chris Bosh, b/c he looks exactly like a dinosaur. |

Crazy how that worked out. Also, this is part of the reason I'm coming back in July...to keep my presence at the household. With what we put into the house and closing costs, we should be near even. It's difficult to say but I think we made money over the 3 years. We have 8k from the first time home buyers credit and we saved about 10k living in a house v. apt. I forget how i came up with that number but I calculated it when I was trying to figure out what our bottom was for sale price. We also did a refi, so we took a little of a hit there but ended up saving more over time by doing so. I've agreed to sell my tv to the guy for $1700. We weren't taking it with us to Germany, when we come back it'll be 8+ years old, and it's a bit of an energy hog. I sure am going to miss it though! |

After all that shit the last few weeks combined with my parents visit and some time off, it's actually pretty nice to be normal. Of course, in the 2 days that Will was in day care last week, he got Hand, Foot & Mouth disease (it is essentially painless but makes the areas around the hand, feet, mouth and butt break out in blisters/pimples) so that made things interesting. I guess the good news is that he's getting all of this shit out of the way now. Been working on the house lately (nursery + remodeling another small bathroom) and all it makes me want is to (a) be richer so I can hire this shit out and/or (b) buy a new house. I'd move back East (Amy is on board, too) if I could find a job there*. (*if someone just gave me one that didn't require any effort on my part) NBA Playoffs! The Conference Finals if they play out like they should will be some great basketball (Heat/Celtics, OKC/Spurs). It is American Craft Beer Week and I have done nothing & will likely do nothing to celebrate. That is shitty. |

Date Posted: 06:42:00 05/17/12 Thu I've been working hard the last few days on the house contract. We hired an attorney to handle the preparations of the contract, and the contract should be finalized today, executed by tomorrow. Until then, my heart beat won't fall below 100. Some additional news on the above. We decided to put the "rent to own" guy on the back burner, unbeknownst to him. While it was a good offer, it comes with risk. Instead, we got another offer for outright purchase with all the numbers we were hoping for when we first set out on this crazy adventure. He offered 540,000, we countered with 544,000 (4K above what we paid for it), and he agreed. Bonus for him not using an agent. By doing a for sale by owner and finding a purchaser without an agent, we ended up saving somewhere between 27,000-33,000 on commission fees. I'll admit, it's been a lot of work, but I'll gladly take the money over the effort and stress of the sale by owner. I feel like a sleaze for stringing along the rent to own guy, but he's our backup until the contract is signed with the #1 seed. It's just the way it has to be for the moment. I probably jinxed the entire process by writing about it here. Today, as you all know, is Ascension Day...another German celebrated holiday compliments of Jesus. The downside is that everything is closed, so you can't really do anything. I would really take my bike over to the shop and get it up to German code, but I can't; the bike shops are closed. German law requires that you have front/rear facing lights, a bell with the proper loudness, 2 reflectors on each wheel at 180 degrees apart, and tire pressure within regulations. I also need mud guards. I plan to leave work early tomorrow to do this. The number of rules they have here (for everything) is maddening. They have a TV use (note...USE) tax. That means, even if you don't hook the TV up to cable and simply want to play video games on it, they require a 17 euro per month fee for such use. The have, for a lack of better words, TV nazis that go around at night who look for TV light emitting from windows, and then they check to see if you are up to date on your fees. If not, they try to gain entry to your apartment and if they see the TV they fine you 400 euro or something crazy like that. But on the flip side, people are extremely friendly and don't appear stressed out. |

Collins' lineups in the 4th quarter were perplexing - sticking with an ineffective Young (-11 +/-) instead of Allen who was playing well (+6 +/-). When finally giving up on Young, he decided to go with a 4 guard lineup, which was stupid and makes no sense. I actually think Meeks should see more action in this series because Boston will always have someone on the court that he will be able to guard. |

Date Posted: 10:51:38 05/09/12 Wed Two weeks ago, Amy was out of town at a trade show so I was solo parenting. Solid, but tiring work, and then William got a 48-hour bug and made it suck terribly b/c he had to miss 2 days of daycare and I had to stay home. Last week, William woke up Tuesday with an ugly bite/infection looking thing on his hip. Turned out it was a staph infection (that caused an abscess underneath the infected area) and was causing him a decent amount of pain/discomfort. He ended up being home for 4 days last week, 2 of which required doctor's visits and me being home from work. Thankfully, Amy's mom came up Thursday & Friday so I could get back to work. Sunday, we had a tornado warning and some rotating clouds that briefly touched down 15 blocks from my house. Rather scary, but luckily there wasn't any damage other than from the rain/hail/higher than normal, but not tornado winds. Unfortunately, during this storm, our ceiling began to leak in our living room. Nothing major (just a slow drip & the roof is on;y 6-7 years old) but still sucky. Turns out there are some pipes (venting for the septic system) on the roof have some rotted out seals that need to be replaced, thus causing water to get in. $500 fix. Yesterday, our garbage disposal was leaking like crazy. After some investigation and internet-info-gathering, we have to get a new one. Luckily, these aren't too expensive and as long as a get a similar model, I should be able to do it myself. Also, work has been shitty & crazy busy. I say all of that stuff because I cannot wait for noon today. My parents will be here around 2pm and will be leaving on Monday at 5pm. I will not be working during their visit and am extremely excited about a very long weekend. |

Date Posted: 10:33:09 05/09/12 Wed I am attempting to refinance my house as soon as I move back into it in June, and wanted to see if this sounded reasonable: TD Bank - 3.87%, 0 points, $618 bank fee + titles, and other legal fees. I am still shopping, and this is the first rate I received. However, I wanted to see if any of you have refinanced recently and have an idea of legal costs, etc. What is reasonable nowadays? I want 0 points and minimal closing costs. Any help would be appreciated. |

Date Posted: 02:30:37 05/09/12 Wed My L/T law is a bit rusty but I'm still trying to gauge the risk of the transaction I mentioned the other day. Question: if we have a 3-year lease (rent to own) and he decides to walk away after a year, what are our legal options? Sure, we get to keep all the monies but that is more or less to compensate for him not buying the property...I'm not sure the law will see the difference. I believe the landlord has a duty to mitigate damages and perhaps the best we could hope for without going to court is probably 2 months rent. Of course, this is just the nature of the beast when it comes to renting. Joo takes the same risks when he rents. The only difference is that it's difficult for us to get back to the states to handle on a personal level and file a claim. |

Date Posted: 14:47:40 05/07/12 Mon Our current monthly mortgage and HOA fee is roughly $3000. He will be paying rent at $2900 a month, ours to keep free and clear. Rent does not increase. Our current listing is $550K. He is able to buy in a year at 555, two yeas a 560 and three years at 565. There will be appreciation, I'm nearly certain of that, and it will likely appreciate more than what we are asking for. If not, then I guess it will be within our right to re-price it if he can't secure a loan at the corresponding price. However, from a contract perspective, we won't have to. Even so, if he lives in the house for 10 years he will have no problem making his money back and then some. The county is building up the area with more shops and local jobs, and the area will be a boom town. He is giving us 9000 down. He gets this back as a down payment for the house if he converts the property successfully within 3 years. We get to keep this if he doesn't. In addition to paying rent, he will be giving us $150 a month that goes towards the down payment of the house. Same thing as above though, he doesn't get this back if he can't secure a loan in 3 years. These provisions are made to mitigate the risk of the event that he doesn't buy the property. We will undoubtedly have to use a realtor next time because we will be abroad, and we need a safety net to cover this cost. The reason he can't get a loan now is that he just went though a divorce and his wife cleaned house. I am assuming this because he brought a woman to the house that wasn't his wife! I am waiting for his financial info to do a background check. As far as his intelligence, he seems like he's doing the right thing to me :) Here's an article on how these agreements typically work. You will find that we follow protocol. http://home.howstuffworks.com/real-estate/rent-to-own-homes.htm |

Date Posted: 13:51:13 05/07/12 Mon There are a few angles to look at. "The 18-35 demo" is the media savvy group. They stay up to date and frequently dl movies. They're current on most all popular TV shows either because they DVR them, dl'd torrents or formerly had Netflix streaming. After they caught up on the TV shows on Netflix, they realize the subscription has little to no value. This group typically streams between a TV/Computer/gaming system/tablet. "The JV Squad" strives to be like 18-35 demo, but isn't quite as savvy. They don't dl torrents but have some type of monthly subscription fee. After a year or two, they realize they're not getting a lot of value out of it and they discontinue. They try to stay up to date on the latest TV shows, but fall behind and miss episodes/half season and then just catch on later without watching old eps. This group like the convenience and ease of Red Box, but doesn't rely on it. "We're on boner meds demo" - This group get a semi just thinking about how awesome/convenient/cheap Red Box is. They may or may not have a DVR and don't really care how current they stay on their favorite TV shows. My Dad is the poster boy for this group. He calls me to tell me how many movies he sees for only $1 each because he's a stickler for next day returns. It doesn't matter that he just rented the latest Adam Sandler crap show, he only paid $1 dammit! My point is that only the first group is going to care about Netflix exclusive content, but they've already realized they can get said content another way. The other groups just don't care enough to warrant paying a monthly fee. Conclusion - Netflix is on a downward spiral to irrelevance and the only way to fix it is to stream the same movies that Red Box has readily available. They're essentially taking what Red Box does well, and making it more convenient in a streaming format. |

Date Posted: 12:39:57 05/07/12 Mon I had NetFlix for all of 1 month, dumped it, and haven't used it since. The DVD's I want I usually get on a whim via RedBox when I am with Rena. Most other times I don't have time to watch DVD's; I can't even find the time to watch some of the shows I have DVR'ed. Heaves, I am very happy for you and your potential renting situation, but I want to make sure I am reading this right: - He pays almost our entire mortgage during the rental period - Do you mean your monthly mortgage or your entire loan amount? I am assuming the former. - He pays whatever the value of the home is at the time of purchase less what he has already paid? - I am surprised he agreed to you raising the price of the home every year given "appreciation". What if your market doesn't appreciate? Do you still get to raise the price? Are you basically just talking about increasing the rent every year? If not, how retarded is this guy to agree to an assumption that the housing market will go up every year? (no offense) Just looking for a little clarification as all, as a landlord that is curious... |

Im pretty sure thats his feelings on it with any bet under 200. once the bet starts going above that I think he starts considering a fold. Its really a tough hand to analyze. In the end I think a bet around 180 is the most +EV play but you can make an argument for an array of plays there. A strong argument can even be made for checking there. I just thought it was an interesting hand. Vert made the argument that from reading the hand history there is a good possibility he has a 5 so I guess I should note that from playing with the villain I had a strong gut feeling he was on a q or a 6. welp, sounds like the original programming aspect for our small sample size is not gonna be enough to draw customers back. guess ill avoid buying them then. |

Date Posted: 18:45:14 05/06/12 Sun We just hit a home run on the house and I couldn't be more excited with how things turned out. We are doing a rent to own contract which is a 3 year lease with the option to buy after the first year. He pays almost our entire mortgage during the rental period, and we were able to increase the price of the house a little bit each year in anticipation of appreciation. Essentially, he pays our mortgage (including most of our principal), he pays more in sale price than what it's currently listed for, he doesn't use a realtor agent, and he is responsible for maintenance of the property. He's getting the offer/contract put together early this week, so here's to wishful thinking that we seal the deal soon. Vic, I don't plan on using netflix in the foreseeable future, but I'll keep an open mind about it. I hear the Germans are getting it this year. |

(arrested development being the big one) I am just trying to gauge whether this move by netflix will successfully jumpstart its subscriber growth again. The stock price is currently at a pretty enticing price and if this move pays off it could result in some nice gains. At the same time, if this move does not work, the stock will succumb to the pressure being put on it by amazon and coin star. I do think this maneuver could separate them from the pack again though. |

I have the day off from work today to start looking at apartments. I'm meeting with my relocation agent in about 20 minutes. Tonight I'll be going to a beer garden or hall with the cooler of the two american coworkers. Since it will probably rain all day tomorrow, I plan on going to an English theater to see the Avengers. I start taking German lessons on Monday or the next Monday. As of now, I've learned to say "Tut mir leid, ich spreche kein Deutsche. Sprechen sie English?" Which means, "I'm sorry, I don't speak German. Do you speak English?" They seem to appreciate that a little bit more. I also know "Ein weissbier dukle, bitte." Which means, one dark wheat beer please." After re-listening to 'Bloody Mary', I like the song a little bit more. I still have to find out how the Germans are about downloading. |

Date Posted: 19:10:29 05/02/12 Wed So far Germany is great. The weather has been outstanding and I'm really liking the area where my hotel is. I'm not sure what a skat show is but I'm confident in saying that I haven't seen one. I will say this, the beer is delicious. But we already knew that. I've had at least 2 beers each day I've been here. They charge about 2,10 for water and 3,50 for beer so it really doesn't make sense to drink anything other than beer. I would describe the beer as more refreshing here. Goes down real easy and doesn't give you the beer headaches. Hooray for zero preservatives! I arrived on Monday with all my luggage. My boss picked me up from the airport and took me to my hotel. Then I went to the ministry of foreigners and got a temporary residence permit. Afterwards, I did a small amount of grocery shopping. After that, I met up with one of the 2 guys that started in March for dinner and a little bit of walking. Tuesday was May Day and the entire city was shut down (other than gas stations, bars and restaurants). I met up with the same guy as the previous day and he showed me more of Munich. I also got most of my gadgetry set up (iphone and magicjack). Today was my first day of work. I wore a suit mostly for my pictures. Everyone else wears jeans every single day! I met the second of the two new hires. He's cool and knows a bit of German. Lots of admin matters today and I got my first assignment. I would have thought they would have given me a US keyboard, but nein. It's goofy and the Y and Z are switched. Nothing special to report. Everyone is super friendly. Tomorrow the group is having a Weisswurst Fruhstuck for welcoming all the recent new hires in the group. Basically, it's a celebration with meat (traditional white sausage -- considered their 'breakfast' or pre-noon sausage). Then more admin matters and perhaps starting on my first project. Friday, more work in the morning and then apartment hunting in the afternoon. Kate is getting some real good interest on the house. Hopefully it'll sell in the next week. Erikka had her baby yesterday. A nearly 10 lb. girl named Isabel. It's about 1 AM here, so it's time to hit the hay. |

I mean you obviously know more about his playing style than us so it's very possible he was that nuts. the main goal for me would be to be sure he would call so I could get his stinky asian chips, not price him out. |

Date Posted: 01:48:49 04/26/12 Thu would love to hear what you would do in this situation (read it and then dont think more than a minute about it - 30 seconds to digest and 30 seconds to ponder cuz you would never take more time than that at a real table as it is a first to act situation). you are sitting at a 1/2 nl table with approx 925 and the villain has approx 600. The villian is a pretty loose asian player who will throw chips around at times. Not a total donkey but does make some bad plays and is very likely a long term losing player. you are dealt q6 in the bb. it limps with about 4 callers and you check. flop comes qs 6s 5h. you lead for 6$ and an early position calls, a middle position calls, and the villian in late position calls. turn comes 5c. you check, early pos checks, middle pos checks, villian bets 12$. You call and the rest fold. river comes 6c. What do you do? check or bet? if bet, how much? obviously I am not very happy with how I chose to play this hand. |

Yesterday I went into work to mostly use the office equipment to scan docs, etc. I put together a leasing agreement and rental application form in case we get to that point. Tonight I'm heading to bestbuy to pick up a Magicjack. Looks like I'll have a US number to call after all. Afterwards, it's movie night with the lady. I also am digging that new HBO show, Girls after 2 episodes. I am not sure why, because it is clearly not meant for folks like me (30 year old married dads). It's worth checking out if you haven't (Ep1 is on YouTube). The NFL Draft is tomorrow. I cannot wait to see who...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I kid, I kid. I had coffee with my father and then got a haircut. I then proceeded to hit the gym and then the driving range. Rena came over at night and we had dinner with my parents and an aunt and uncle. Unfortunately, whatever she ate disagreed with her so we had to duck out early, and while she slept it off I watched Ghost Protocol, which was amusing at best. Sunday involved catching up on TV shows that I have been DVR'ing and a glorious Game 6 win with my brother. The day ended with Vietnamese food and a drive back to Rena's place in NJ. End Scene. |

Date Posted: 16:33:14 04/23/12 Mon Saturday was busy. Had super early 6:50 tee time. We cranked out the round in 3:10 which was nice. I shot +10 on the back nine which was very nice for me. After that I went to my brother's bridal shower for the afternoon and then mowed the lawn after that. Sunday was spent all day getting the house ready for the painters. We had to clean out the kitchen, dining room, and guest bedroom. The kitchen was a mess and took forever. The painters showed up this morning. There were two mexican guys (at least that's what I'm assuming). I find this funny because the contractor we are using is this asian dude. Think Vic but shorter and from a different asian country. I have no idea how these guys understand each other. Wouldn't it be funny if they both spoke fluent French and communicated that way? Jono, hopefully you don't have things too bad. I am solo parenting for that time (in other words, the exact opposite of what Joey G is doing this week). So far, other than being sort of bored, it's all good. I am a more efficient parent than Amy, that is for damn sure. Also, I think doing the solo parenting thing with two will suck more than twice as much. Weekend was meh. Had a date night with Amy on Friday which was fun, but Saturday was spent running around (G'pa 85th bday party) with family stuff. Sunday was when the parenting sans-Amy began. I did start Game of Thrones last night and am 2 episodes in and can't get enough. I thought I'd try it but ultimately hate it, but I was wrong. I hope to plow through 4-5 more episodes tonight. I loved Mad Men this week. I'm enjoying this season. I watched The Grey over 3 treadmill runs and it was such a shitty, shitty movie. I'm sure you all already knew that and ended up not watching, which would've been the right move. I have Shame lined up in case I run out of GoT episodes before Thursday. |

Date Posted: 12:23:29 04/20/12 Fri Is this a joke? The story makes no sense whatsoever. The narrative has no internal logic, the “moral” is unclear, and the plot details seems so oddly chosen that the story seems to have been written during a peyote trip. (The prose is clunky too, but I hate to pile on.) In fact, it reads like one of those random, fill-in-the-blank “Mad Libs” stories that seven-year-olds annoy everyone with on family vacations. A ninja and toothpaste? What does that even mean? My answers to the two questions asked would be c) and a), but neither question makes much sense. The animals certainly wanted to eat the pineapple, so d) is arguably the best answer for the the first question, even if c) seems more in line with understanding the “plot.” And no character exhibits much “wisdom” at all. The crow is at least a shrewd literary critic, but his guess about the pineapple’s agenda turns out to be wrong. The moose is pointless (and unfunny) comic relief. The hare, at least, reluctantly agrees to a contest in which he’s an overwhelming favorite and wins handily, though it’s a bit of a stretch to say that this is due to his great wisdom. (I would credit his powerful hind legs.) The pineapple’s motivation is so murky and behavior so inexplicable that it’s impossible to even know what “wisdom” would mean in this bizarre universe of nonlinear action. There is no owl. Date Posted: 10:06:22 04/20/12 Fri ... The Pineapple and the Hare ... In the olden times, animals could speak English, just like you and me. There was a lovely enchanted forest that flourished with a bunch of these magical animals. One day, a hare was relaxing by a tree. All of a sudden, he noticed a pineapple sitting near him. The hare, being magical and all, told the pineapple, “Um, hi.” The pineapple could speak English too. “I challenge you to a race! Whoever makes it across the forest and back first wins a ninja! And a lifetime’s supply of toothpaste!” The hare looked at the pineapple strangely, but agreed to the race. The next day, the competition was coming into play. All the animals in the forest (but not the pineapples, for pineapples are immobile) arranged a finish/start line in between two trees. The coyote placed the pineapple in front of the starting line, and the hare was on his way. Everyone on the sidelines was bustling about and chatting about the obvious prediction that the hare was going to claim the victory (and the ninja and the toothpaste). Suddenly, the crow had a revolutionary realization. “AAAAIEEH! Friends! I have an idea to share! The pineapple has not challenged our good companion, the hare, to just a simple race! Surely the pineapple must know that he CANNOT MOVE! He obviously has a trick up his sleeve!” exclaimed the crow. The moose spoke up. “Pineapples don’t have sleeves.” “You fool! You know what I mean! I think that the pineapple knows we’re cheering for the hare, so he is planning to pull a trick on us, so we look foolish when he wins! Let’s sink the pineapple’s intentions, and let’s cheer for the stupid fruit!” the crow passionately proclaimed. The other animals cheered, and started chanting, “FOIL THE PLAN! FOIL THE PLAN! FOIL THE PLAN!” A few minutes later, the hare arrived. He got into place next to the pineapple, who sat there contently. The monkey blew the tree-bark whistle, and the race began! The hare took off, sprinting through the forest, and the pineapple ... It sat there. The animals glanced at each other blankly, and then started to realize how dumb they were. The pineapple did not have a trick up its sleeve. It wanted an honest race — but it knew it couldn’t walk (let alone run)! About a few hours later, the hare came into sight again. It flew right across the finish line, still as fast as it was when it first took off. The hare had won, but the pineapple still sat at his starting point, and had not even budged. The animals ate the pineapple. Here are two of the questions: 1. Why did the animals eat the pineapple? a. they were annoyed b. they were amused c. they were hungry d. they wanted to 2. Who was the wisest? a. the hare b. moose c. crow d. owl |

Date Posted: 09:50:27 04/20/12 Fri Answer A to first question) The animals were all male and they know that if you eat pineapple it will make the blowjob experience tastier for their female animal companions. Answer A to second question) The second question is terrible given the information. Did anyone bet against it? Was it just a moneyline bet? Any spread in times or distance? Overs/Unders? Answer B to first question) The animals ate the pineapple because its a fucking tasty and delicious treat and every animal knows that only terrorists and Lady Gaga don't eat pineapples (not expressive enough for her). Answer B to second question) Two muffins are in an oven set at 400 degrees. One muffin says "Fuck me, it's hot in here". The other muffin looks at the first muffin and says "No shit, a talking muffin." |
