The Equus is a nice car, without a doubt, but anyone who has driven Merc or BMW or knows about cars would not compare the Equus to a S class or a 7 series. Simply put; they may all be loaded with features but they are not in the same class, especially after you drive all 3. Your best bet is to continue to compare the Equus to the LS, which is a luxury version of an otherwise boring and lame line of vehicles. Honestly, if you are 60 and aren't into cars or are young and think that commercials are actually TRUE depictions of the vehicle, then Lexus is for you. If you actually want to stay AWAKE when inside of a vehicle, go with something else entirely. The BMW I would maybe put up against the Equus would be the 550i with regards to pound-for-pound capabilities. Yes, there may be more room and more VISIBLE features on the Equus, but there is a lot under the hoods and outside of the naked eye of the BMW's and Mercs that most people don't know about.

Regardless, Kia and Hyundai have done a great job rebranding themselves and improving the overall quality and image of their vehicles. I, myself, like the new Grand Cherokee and may select that as my next car, as I will be in the market around December.

i'd have a really hard time convincing myself i needed a $55k car. i certainly appreciate them but damn, that's a lot of money for something that takes me (mostly) to and from work.

switched over to feedly the other day. it's a nice reader. it's certainly not google, but it's close enough for now.

weekend was spent doing some drinking, hanging out with caruso's mom and not much else. saturday, i went to bawlmur for some kegs and eggs action at stone's place. we then went to some party that caruso was invited to. it was a greek party so there were stations with sliced lamb everywhere. it was pretty darn tasty. sunday we drove to visit caruso's gparents and uncle/kids. we got back around 4 and then proceeded to crash.

i'm so happy to see bucknell land an 11 seed. i really like their match up with butler. should be a good game.

Rear seats are spacious in the Equus. If you debagged the Equus and the S550, I would wager that it would be very close to a 50/50 split in preference. Mercedes enthusiasts would know the difference, but that's about it. The Equus is much more desireable than the Lexus LS which is its closest competitor.

Tony, I mostly agree about the $60k Hyundai being tough to swallow considering what their niche is, but them seem to be building a following and long term brand loyalty. Other luxury car makers are jumping into the compact pool nowadays (Mercedes CLA, Acura ILX, BMW 1 series) but I think all of those cars are just a huge waste of money for what you're getting.

A few other notes.

The Lexus LFA is just plain bad ass. The Acura RLX is also a very nice sedan and the leather smells delicious.

I was disappointed that they didn't have the new Porsche Cayman at the show and didn't have an Audi A5/S5 (they did have an RS5 which is just super rare and was roped off) on display either. They did have a an Audi A7 which is just a weird car IMO. Not sure where a $60k+ hatchback sedan (that isn't a Porsche) fits into the mix.

The show was the first time I ever looked through a hybrid sedan and was surprised by how much trunk space is sacrificed in the hybrid (Optima, Camry & Fusion hybrid). The trunk is atleast 50% smaller and no larger than most larger convertibles with the top down.

Now onto some hot chick content. This beauty was roaming around the Nissan booth. My friend decided he was going to act like he was taking a pic of a car and snap a shot of her instead. I'm pretty sure she knew what he was doing because there wasn't a car within 10 feet of her when he snapped this. Also notice the guy on the left checking out her ass and the guy on the right stealing a shot of her rack.

For my trips to Korea, I get a driver from the hotel to/from my trip to the airport. He is always in an Equus. I sit in the backseat and surf the internet using the wifi hotspot in the car. The backseat of the Equus is luxurious and super comfortable. It is definitely high end.

Vert, did you sit in the rear seats? Was it glorious.

I'd be a little reluctant to dive into a 60k Hyundai since they also offer a 15k "King of Subcompacts". They should have created a new brand for their luxury line.

On Saturday I went to the MN car show. I'm looking at buying something new in the next year or so, but I was a tad early as it was pretty much only 2013 models on display. Information on 2014 models was mostly vague.

This car was a highlight of the show for me. Not something I'm looking at, but a very nice car nonetheless.

https://www.hyundaiusa.com/vehicles/2013/equus/?

I sat in the Equus only minutes after sitting in a Mercedes S550 ($130k price tag) and I was very surprised at how comparable the two were.

Kia and Hyundai both seem to be doing great things and it's attracting a lot of people. Their areas were packed while Toyota seemed to be lagging behind and the Honda section was basically a ghost town.

Got my taxes done this weekend. Looking forward to my return. Ultimately my main accomplishment this weekend was beating Borderlands 2. That was a great game, long though. They have a good system of adjusting the difficulty of the enemies based on your level so it stayed challenging all the way through.

Everything (that we know of) is taken care of. I just need to install the car seat. We intend to do some final straightening up around the house this weekend. Then, it's just waiting time.

I got a LOT of partying out of my system this past 8 months. I regret nothing and I left nothing on the table. If I had to do this another 8 months, I would be in AA.

It was a lousy time in my life being that it was is the 60's here and I couldn't enjoy it. I've learned that any type of beer festival here will get you sick since I'm 2 for 2.

Daylight savings doesn't start here until the 31st, which happens to be a 4 day weekend due to Easter. The Germans sure know how to hide this awful time jump.

hi all. did everyone survive the snowkakke super death storm? we ended up having 2" on the grass and nothing on any streets or sidewalks. pretty darn terrifying. at least i got the day off. hoozah pansy marylanders!

things at work are slowly evolving. on monday, it was announced that our gc is stepping down (being forced out, whatever) and that we were being realigned under astrazeneca's legal department. i get to meet with my new boss (or boss' boss or boss' boss' boss... whatever) today. dude rolled into work wearing a suede coat. this is him in case anyone cares (http://goo.gl/OxczU).

so we filed our taxes on monday. i gotta say, i dig the whole being married thing as it caused a nice spike in our/my refund amount. it's almost like receiving a second bonus. hooray taxes.

Friday was nothing special. Kate really wanted some McD's french fries and chicken nuggets. So I rode my bike to our local nugget distributor and came back home with 26 nuggets and 2 large fries. Kate probably had 10 nuggets, which means I had the rest.

Saturday I ran some errands in the morning before pouring myself into my lederhosen. Our goal was to be drinking by 2:30 but we ended up waiting in line for an hour to get into the place. It was a mini Oktoberfest inside. We quickly found some seats and ordered Starkbier. The beer itself was ok. It had a strange aftertaste that I didn't dig. We learned a liter was 680 calories at 7.5% abv. I was really feeling good after 2 of those, but definitely felt another liter was within my limits. And it was!! The problem was that I didn't stop at 3 and went onwards to 4. It's really hard not to drink when everyone is singing and being so merry-like. Around 9:00 I decided we all had enough and everyone agreed. Kate had been shopping and was waiting for me to come home. So we left and I got home some time between 9:30 and 10. I let Kate undress me because I could not do it myself. Then I strategically decided it would be best to throw up, and so I did. Kate described me as funny but nothing short of ridiculous. I'll have to take her word for it since those minutes are very very hazy.

Sunday was a waste.

Friday night, had some beers and ate some pizza with the Mrs. We were in bed early and started our House of Cards marathon.

Saturday, woke up early and moved the guest room bed to my parents' garage. Then, went Cyber golfing back in town with Tommy. We played Bethpage Black. It is close to 6700 yds from the white tees. I was hitting the ball really, really well and shot a 79 (with the 9 foot gimmes for putting). I spent the remainder of the day assembling baby stuff.

Sunday, we finished up work in the nursery. I went bowling with Mac and Poyser. Then, grabbed lunch at Bishop's Collar with the Mrs. They had a new DFH beer. Rhysing Bines. It was good - nothing spectacular.

Now, I am getting all my shit together for a busy rest of the week. Today, I am taking my Mom to the flower show. I am going to a DFH beer dinner at Memphis Taproom tomorrow. Thursday night I head down to DC for Maurer's bachelor party.

The weekend started off with some excitement. Around 7pm we realized that our drains were all backed up. We were a couple gallons away from having a big mess. I poked around in the basement and realized that the main drain was clogged and this was now outside of my comfort level. Roto rooter was kind enough to come out within the hour and unclog the drain. Lesson learned, don't flush baby wipes down the toilet. We don't intentionally do this but sometimes they accidentally get flushed.

Saturday night I headed to the sixers/warriors game. I watched the Warriors dominate the first half and watch Steph Curry easily put up 23 points. Then I think they hopped on their plane home at halftime and let the Sixers dominate and win. The other secret to the Sixers success in the second half was the removal of Spencer Hawes who is worthless.

I would imagine Har rah's would have a network of players in each state that they a) have a casin0 property and b) on line gam ing is legalized. I would assume they're already pushing those states to consider this legislation to boost their player pool.

I'm pretty sure the way I read the NJ article, each casin0 needs to house servers in their casin0 facility.

For sl ots and ta ble gam es, that's fine but I don't imagine they can support pok er if the network of players is site/state specific.

I think that there is some truth to what Vert is saying. The issue is related to the player pools. A lot of these states may require that the players also be residents of the state. This is a huge problem when it comes to online p0ker.

P0kerStars was investigating purchasing a casin0 in AC as recently as late last year. This new law change may accelerate that.

The Sands in Bethlehem has been absolutely crushing it since day 1. Revenue rose 4.4% in PA during 2012.

Nevada
Gaming revenue - $10.701 Billion
Tax revenue - $865.25 Million

NJ
Gaming revenue - $3.318 Billion
Tax revenue - $277.6 Million

PA
Gaming revenue - $3.024 Billion

Considering how much PA makes from gaming tax revenue, I would assume they'll follow closely behind.

I think the casinos will likely have their own gaming networks with the smaller guys merging onto the same networks similar to how it used to be in the online world. I would expect that Harrah's has had something in development for years.

My understanding is that any of the companies busted on "Black Friday" aren't allowed to do business in the US for like 10 years or some time frame.

HOOOOORAY, february is almost gone!!!! oh happy day!!!

i read that the nj law essentially allows them to reach out to all the foreign online gamboooling companies, something that i didn't see in the nv p0ker (apparently if you type out p_ker your post gets flagged as spam and it won't allow me to enter the stupid captcha code so i have to misspell the word) law. i am hoping this opens the floodgates. it's so dumb that adults can't waste money online gambling if they want. it's also dumb i can't buy beer at the grocery store but one thing at a time i guess.

Did anyone else check out the Miss Delaware porno video? It wasn't anything special, but I am still not too old to check out an 18 year old who had to give up her tiara to take part in a cheap, online porn video. I don't think she has much business sense; I'm sure that she could have gotten a much better porn situation if she had actively marketed herself. I can post the link for those that missed it.

First for some bad news. There's no way to sugar coat it...it's going to feel like Friday today, when in fact it's Thursday. We are going to have to do this work thing one more time tomorrow before it's the weekend.

Now some good news. It's the last day of this terrible month we call February (also Stoli's birthday). The weather and temps are looking up next week, and hopefully Spring is right around the corner along with Spring time fashion.

Tomorrow, we are going to take it easy before I jump into Starkbeirfest on Saturday. My goal is both to hit and limit myself to 2 liters of this strong beer. The lederhosen are coming back out of the box. I also have to make a run to the turlet store. When we came back from Paris, our toilet seat cover, made of plastic, was mysteriously cracked in half. Maybe it fell and cracked but I'm pretty sure it was down when we left since that is our standard operating procedure for when we're not using the toilet. Maybe our fat cat jumped on it, but she's not all that fat and she's pretty soft on her feet.

Sunday, I have to continue pulling our tax info together and get some German homework done. It should be a lousy day.

Next week we have an anatomical ultrasound to make sure all parts are present and healthy. Then, next weekend we will probably make a run to Ikea to look at baby furniture.

I have to figure out how to get Game of Thrones over here. I could buy on iTunes maybe?

I was out last night at a marketing event celebrating Aneesh heading up the YLD section of the Philly Bar. Networking nights stink - at least the food was decent.

We then headed home and watched New Girl/Mindy Project.

I watched an EPIC Doug Collins presser. He threw the team under the bus and absolved himself of a lot of the teams problems.

I am in the final push of getting baby gear. It was great seeing so many of your better halves last weekend. Also, thank you to everyone that sent gifts. I am very fortunate to have such nice friends.

Hello folks; I am writing to you from the airport, and I finally have some time to post. Sorry about my absence from the board; things have been beyond insane.

Wedding Planning - Still going very well. Save the dates will be sent soon and everything but the hotels have been locked in. We are making great progress, but I honestly cannot wait till the wedding where I can see everyone.

My Weekend - This weekend, Rena and I went skiing in Keystone Colorado with a bunch of her friends for an annual event called "The Big Nasty". I attended last year, and was given a special invite even though spouses were not allowed. Essentially, Rena has a bunch of successful entrepreneur friends that get together, skii, smoke, and share new ideas for new business ventures (Rena and I actually developed one over the weekend that we will be working on but I will not divulge until it is rolling). We all rented an amazing house; these guys clearly do it right. Overall, I give Keystone resort a 4 out of 5 for the following reasons:
- Mountain - The practice grounds for people still learning are at the top, which allows people to practice more effectively and then try their luck on a path should they choose to do so.
- Apre Ski - The bars at the base are phenomenal. Good food and drink, with a much less expensive and low key atmosphere than Vale. Not too ghetto, not too yuppie.
- Staff - Left something to be desired. I'm all for weed, as long as it doesn't effect your work.
- Local Town - Dillon is awesome. The local weed esta muy bien. The same as coke; legalize it and the quality will improve (no, I do not due coke).

I have only really skiied once since this past weekend, and that was a year ago. I had some slight instruction from my fiance and her friends the year prior, but still took a beginner lesson (I didn't do a lesson prior). The instructor insisted I learn the "pizza wedge" technique, until he saw me parallel ski, where he then said, "Ok; no more wedge for you. you can ski parallel." Funny enough, for some reason, I was completely behind the class of students until after lunch. Then, something clicked in my head and I wound up excelling the entire class. By the end of the second day, I was skiing Green paths without much difficulty. That might be normal for most, but I was proud of myself, as I felt it a big deal for a big oaf like me.

Saturday night, I highly recommended that Rena, myself, and the others flying out of Denver the next morning drive to Denver that evening, as a big snow storm was coming in and I knew we didn't want to be driving in it early the next morning (at around 4am). While there was some hesitation and slight consternation, everyone finally agreed with me and we got a hotel right by the airport and stayed overnight. I received applause and drinks later that evening after we drove half of the distance in snow showers and freezing road conditions (the worst hadn't even happened yet). We BARELY got out on Sunday; we were very lucky.

That's pretty much it for me. Work is insane, but going well. I am actually flying to our HQ right now because of previous work that I had done that basically allowed me to attend a meeting reserved only for a select group of higher-ups (without making people fall into a coma, I developed sales tools that will be used in a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system that we will be using in the near future - they found my tools to be "ahead of their time". )

Till the next time...

The highlight of the weekend was our sledding trip down to the Alps. It was easily top 10 most daring, exciting and dangerous things I've ever done. It really confirmed for us that Germans are crazy sons of bitches. The sledding course was basically a winding ski slope designated for sledders. The course was narrow and steep at times, and there was usually one side of the trail that was the face of the mountain...with no netting. We were on old-fashioned wooden sleds with metal rungs. We steered with our feet! I preferred what I quickly designated as the "cowboy" method, with one hand out front hanging onto the rope tie, and the other hand behind, grabbing the back of the sled. Steering was pretty good, but these sleds were not precision instruments and were greatly influenced by the trail conditions. I wiped out on a number of occasions -- probably because I was going too fast as I squealed with delight. We got to the mountain pretty early and had a really good first run that took about an hour to get down. Kate did pretty well and we were all getting comfortable handling our sleds by the end of it. On the 2nd and final run, bodies were piling up everywhere. It was more crowded and the conditions on the trails had worsened. We heard one person had a heart attack and we saw 2 others being medically evacked on rescue sleds. In hindsight, maybe not the best thing for a pregnant lady to be doing, but I was not expecting the sheer balls of this activity. I would do it again without hesitation. Maybe during the week when it's less crowded. In the middle of the 2nd run, we also refueled with gluhwein, beer and sausage. After that, we continued on the easier, bottom part of the trail. We raced to the finish line to make things more interesting. If my friend had not played so dirty, I would have claimed the checkered flag. The only time I've been bruised more is when I ran that silly gauntlet during paintball.

my weekend was nice. caruso missed the baby-g baby shower due to her teeth so we had some time to do some chores around the house. i made beef stew (which is amazing) and we ate a lot of that. sunday, we watched argo and played with hanna.

i'm about to head off to nyc for a conference. it'll be nice to sleep in a bed and not have to worry about hearing a baby crying at any point. actually, hanna's not bad and, if she does get up, it's only once for a quick snack. still, you can't beat silence... or as silent as you can get in manhattan (aka not at all silent).

this weekend my rents are coming down to visit. i'm hoping to use the time to install a new sink in my pooper room.

Saturday was spent hosting all of the husbands whose wives went to Ali's showers. Joe, your body just needs to build up a tolerance for the bold flavors. My colon has been just fine.

After everyone departed, I went out and picked up this bad boy http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?sku=40799278
Jen broke her latte maker so we needed to get something to make coffee drinks with. I like this one because it doesn't need to get cleaned every day because all of the milk parts can go in the fridge. So far it's been awesome and I am happy that I can now make espresso when I need it.

Sunday was spent running errands. And watching most of the Oscars. Here's a list of all the movies I have seen this year that were nominated:
Skyfall
Brave
Prometheus

Yup, it is not the easiest for Jen and I to watch movies these days. We either need to break them up into multiple viewings or duct tape the kids to the floor. TV shows are much easier to watch.

This weekend I had three dinners with my in-laws. That's more than I would wish on any man.

Friday night, we went to McCormick and Schmick's. Solid seafood dinner. Beforehand, I went to the newly opened Corner Foodery near the Sofitel for some beers.

Saturday, we had the baby shower. Tony, Justin, Joe McHale and I hung out with Justin Jr. and Audrey @ Tony's place. We got Pizza Hut pizza. I had horrendous poops the remainder of the weekend. I am blaming the bold Pizza Hut flavors. I was really overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. We got a lot of nice stuff for the baby and we are excited to finish up the nursery in the next 2 or so weeks (well ahead of the April 12 due date).

Sunday, I cleaned up the apartment while Ali and her mom went out to the outlet stores. It was nice and quiet in the house. I was also able to sneak out to the driving range and hit some balls. My ball striking is either fantastic or horrific -- I hate the process of working on new stuff. We watched the Academy Awards last night and I drank a bunch of wine.

Another weekend in the books. The weather is starting to turn around out here.

Yep, the one good thing about going to Paris in February is that we didn't have the lines that the summers bring. We got to walk right up to the Mona Lisa (meh), which they say could be a 4 hour wait to see on some days. For the Eiffel tower, we had to wait in line for about 30 mins in the cold, but this is still better than waiting 3-4 hours in the summer. We just got to see a whole lot more than we would have otherwise. You are right, anything short of a catapult and the doggie would not have made it to the Seine. My entire life has been based on a lie!

I'm not quite sure, but the way you described it sounds about right. Our little Heave-ette is in for quite a shock when she enters this world. We are at the half way point now. I can't believe how much time seems to be dragging by. This gestation period is taking forever!

Paris was good. We saw tons and walked all over the place. I was more impressed with Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower than I thought I was going to be. They were pretty neat. We saw Napoleon's tomb as well. Maybe the funnest of facts I learned during the trip is about Napoleon's long (but short and shriveled) lost penis. You can read about it here:

We are going sledding on Sunday here:
http://www.wallbergbahn.de/english/winter/sledding/
It's a 4 mile slope for sledding. I'm really excited for this!

The strong beer festivals are starting in Munich. The beers are supposed to be delicious and about 10% ABV, and so very dangerous. Strong beers were made here during lent because people used to fast and this was a way around it (drinking lots of beer on an empty stomach was OK). Instead of eating bread, they just made the beer stronger to get more carbs and calories. Brilliant!!!!

I am going to this one next weekend. http://www.nockherberg.com/starkbierfest.html

It does take some getting used to, like all the shipments come on the same day so you do have to do some planning. Also I'm not sure how skipping something will work if you only get it every six months.

Jen worked most of the weekend so I was on kid duty most of the time. We did manage to sneak out on Saturday night for dinner. We went to Ted's Montana grill and I had a delicious bison steak. It was good but it helped me reaffirm why we eat so much unhealthy beef. It's because it's so damn delicious.

Thon was this weekend. Wow they made a lot of money. Apparently the BJC was at capacity for most of Saturday and after about 9am on Sunday. Pretty unbelievable.

Have a good weekend, boys.

We are off to Paris tomorrow bright and early. It should be a 6 hour train ride through scenic Germany and France. We are allegedly getting a handful of baby gifts from my side of the family.

We finally finalized our plans in March. We will be staying 4 nights in Istanbul and 2 nights in Kusadasi. We booked a multi day tour package, so we should have plenty to see. We have 2 free days in Istanbul as well to venture off in the safe parts of town. It should be completely different to what we've seen thus far in our parts.

We are working on figuring out whether Kate is going to qualify for German maternity leave. Basically, it's maternity leave on the roids. It includes receiving 65% of your income for an entire year paid by the German government. Kate will either go this route or try to work part time for her company. The down side for us is that Kate will most undoubtedly lose her job by the time the year is up. (German companies are required to save the position for when the employee returns). The upside is, fuck, it's free money for an entire year while Kate spends time with the baby. It's basically watching some of my taxes come right back to us for that year. Right now, chances of qualifying are looking good. Oooga!

8 weeks until the baby's due date. We are getting everything finalized in the apartment this weekend. Next weekend, we will be having the baby shower and we expect to get a lot more baby stuff. Then, we will order the remaining items. I am hoping to have everything squared away before Joey Maurer's bachelor party at the start of next month.

Then, we wait.

I have really been wondering whether the baby is a boy or a girl the past few days. I can't believe I didn't find out the baby's gender when given the opportunity. Oh well. It's going to be one last surprise at the end. I am really thinking that that baby is a girl. I have no idea for thinking this way but it just seems like that's going to be the case.

Any date works for us - we will take the time off and be there with bells on.

Donnie - Do not joke about the driving range prior to; I WILL follow through with it if you are game for it.

Speaking of planning - Rena and I are kicking ass and taking names. We pretty much have everything done that we are supposed to have accomplished at this point and are a bit ahead in some other things. We are lucky, smart, and Jewish.

Vic - Nice choice on a venue.

For those that are interested, our wedding will be at the Grand Marquis in Old Bridge, NJ. We did a lot of research and were extremely impressed with the place. Everyone that has heard of it as said that they have either been there and loved it or heard great things about it. I think everyone will have a lot of fun. Open Premium Bar all night and a SHITTON of good food.

On a side note, we aren't doing a rehearsal dinner, as we feel that it isn't necessary to make people (new parents especially) to trek all of the way to NJ and then head home only to come back Saturday night for the wedding (has to be at night because a Rabbi won't perform the ceremony until sundown because it is the Sabbath).

thanks everyone for the input. Its not set in stone yet but it looks like we are going with october 25th. We decided sacrificing the saturday was better than sacrificing weather-wise or venue-wise. Plus the friday discount saves us a little bit of cash money, even though their friday discount was no where near what other places were offering. I think they are giving us around 4% off versus what it would be on a saturday where as some other places were offering as high as 20% off.

Ill let you know once the contract is signed and we officially have a date.

if youre wondering this is where we are looking to hold the ceremony/reception.

its looking like nov 23 is being nixed and we are now considering aug 18 or oct 25. oct 25 has got the milder weather, will likely be right when the leaves are changing, and is later in the year which means more time planning wise but again, it is a friday. Maybe I should choose the date much like we decide the draft order in my one fantasy league....through the deal of a holdem hand.

wedding planning blows. hard. Ive never been the type that deals with stress real well and wedding planning is stressful as hell. Anyways we are trying to pick our venue and basically have one place ranked way ahead of all the rest we have checked out. The only issue is that it is pretty much booked up at this point. The only saturday available at this point is november 23. The way this place is set up we would ideally like to have the ceremony and cocktail hour outdoors but wed have to get pretty lucky to accomplish that.

An alternative is that we could do the wedding on a friday. That would open us up to some dates that work out much better weather wise and scenery wise. But we are struggling with the obvious reservations one would have with holding a friday wedding. Espicially for alot of you guys who would likely have to take a day off to make this work. Even alot of the local people would probably have to take some time off to get ready and avoid traffic since traffic is a mess in these parts. Let me know your thoughts as to friday weddings. And dont be afraid to be brutally honest. I wont take offense at all. I really need a sampling of how people would feel about it. We dont want to end up with a gathering of ticked off guests.

Hey, everyone. We are back at it again on a Monday. Ugh. The weekend went by way too quickly and I had (still have) a pesky cold.

Friday, I went out to Chili's with the Mrs and then went out from some late night beers with Tommy.

Saturday, we did some more cleaning in the apartment. This coming weekend, we are getting the baby furniture delivered and assembled (score!). So we should be in real nice shape with respect to getting things squared away for the baby. We can then start washing the baby clothes, etc. and putting them all away. Just getting everything squared away in advance of the baby shower. We are less than 9 weeks away from the due date --- seems really far off and not that far off at the same time.

Tom came over and we watched Gangster Squad (2 out of 5 stars) and The Perks of Being a Wallflower (4 out of 5 stars).

Sunday, I rested up from my cold. Watched some college and pro basketball. Went out for dinner last night. Watched some Grammy's and caught up on Justified.

Hafer, I took care of Valentine's day years ago. The key is to torture yourself once and actually try to go to dinner on V day. Then explain how much better dinner would be if you weren't in a crammed restaurant and could do it on a weekend instead.

As for the flowers, I randomly give Jen flowers every 1 or 2 months. It is the best $8 I spend at Wegman's while I am getting beer. Then I make sure to give her flowers before V day. For example she got them yesterday, and they were already a little overpriced. I did the whole 1 800 flowers thing one year. Those shitty flowers barely lasted a week. Again I explained she could get $40 flowers on V day or get $8 flowers 5 times.

As for the candy, Jen never really wanted candy. But I make it a point to buy some on Feb 15th since it's so cheap.

All Jen will get on Thursday is a card.

As for the dinner, I have no idea when we'll get our babysitters lined up to try to do that.

No Valentines's Day here!!! Of course, I am still married to an American so we may decide to do something. We haven't really talked about it. And if we do do something, we don't have to worry about reservations to anything. Maybe we will go to our favorite restaurant and gorge on delicious ribs. Romantic!

Friday we met one of Hafer's friends (Nicole Clouse) and learned Hafer is actually called 'Baby Hafer' in some circles (mostly with women who have slept with him). How cute! Naturally, I am making a crude reference to the size of... anyways, she is a friend of Nate Hafer, so I guess this makes sense. She is into nerdy bio patents and her firm sent her here for a few months to spend time with a client. She turned out to be fun, so hooray for more Americans!

Saturday and Sunday we just hung around and did some stuff. Boring stuff. I took a page from Will Conway, and walked around naked for awhile. He might be onto something...

Tomorrow there is something called Fasching. They also call it Carnival and is akin to the origins of Mardi Gras, which in France dates back to 1294. The concept finally caught on in Germany in the 1800's. I'm really hoping they're serving Hurricanes and Hand Grenades at the event. I would have about a dozen of each.

This coming weekend, we are going to meet my parents in Paris and we'll stay until Wednesday. I think we are going to Turkey at the end of March. I'm hoping to finalize our plans this week.

Tax season is ramping up. I can't wait for someone else to figure out our tax situation which is going to be super complex this year.

from lions 24/7:
Don't discount the fact that Midget was an All-American caliber player in college as well as having some time in the NFL at the position he'll be coaching at Penn State. His knowledge of the position will be terrific, he's young and supposedly an energetic guy. He can sell to prospective corners that he was an NFL player, draft pick, All-American at VT and played in a National Championship game. He coached at the high school level in Florida and was a defensive coordinator at the college level. He also comes from arguably the best Special Teams program in college football and was a really good special teamer as a player. Then went on to coach special teams at the college level. What is not to like? This is exactly the type of hire I was looking for.

Young, energetic, great regional connections (South Florida/Georgia/Virgnia), NFL experience, College All-American, special teams and defensive back coaching experience. Sounds perfect to me. Now we'll see how he does.

Kate and I were both convinced it was going to be a boy. She is elated; I am in shock. We blame Jono for his selfish tweeting. But this works out better. The majority of nieces (5/7) are girls, so she will be closer in age to all of them as opposed to having a girl later down the road. We can shoot for a boy next time. Fun(?) fact: my mom, Kate's mom, Tara, Erikka and Kate's sister all had girls first.

Oh, and my math still comes up with 36 CLE credits. 24 for the 2 years + 12 more for the current year. So that would require 2 conferences. It's possible I can convince my boss to send me to the US for these CLE's, even though I can take them online here (shhhhh). I am all for this as long as they are paying.

you only have to make up, at most, 24 credits (+ the annual requirement) in 12 months. that's essentially 3 day long events. so, if you're out of state for more than 2 years it's totally worth it. it's super worth it if you, like me, never plan on moving back to pa to practice.

Yep, but you have to make them up if you move back/practice in PA. Since moving back to PA is our goal some day, it's easier for me to keep taking them as long as work is paying for them rather than making up 36 credits. Being an expat, I can actually take all my CLE classes online. PA will waive the limit on online CLE classes I can take. Anyways, you should defer.

Firstly, huge doctors appointment coming up tomorrow. With any luck, all will be well and we can come "out" with the news.

As we sort though all this baby stuff, I've already given a lot of thought about how I might be able to participate in the bachelor and wedding events. I apologize in advance that I won't be able to get to them all. The biggest factor is timing. I know this much, I won't be taking any transatlantic flights in June (in case the baby comes early), July, or August.

If it comes between making it to a bachelor party or a wedding, Evan already expressed that he would prefer the latter. This would make my child about 2.5 months old. There are 3 options, the first two have questions for the already daddy's out there.

Option 1: I come alone.

Q: How much would it suck for Kate, and consequently myself, to handle a baby on her own for a few days, to possibly up to a week? Recommended? I think Jono was able to get away for Joe's BP when Will was about the same age. However, I think Amy had some outside help from her parents, which could make all the difference.

Option 2: Kate and baby come with. This allows us to dump the kid off with my parents.

Q: How much would it suck to fly 9 hours with a baby? I'm going to guess a lot. I might not even want to explore this option. It'll be bad enough when we come to the US over the winter holidays at 6 months.

Option 3: No Heaves. Insert frowny face.

We have a bunch to figure out yet, including Kate's maternity leave, so we'll see how things play out.

Alternatively, if there's a bachelor party pre-June, that could be a better alternative and an easier sell.

By the way, Vic, I vote for a bachelor party in Ireland. If in the States, I vote New Orleans. I love seeing black dong!

Some good TV is coming back this week: Smash, Community and The Walking Dead are all on the DVR to-do list.

I am signing up for a smart DNS some time this week so I can unblock sites (Hulu, Pandora) that have outside US restrictions.

This weekend was event-full (full of events). Even though Kate and I stayed in on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday more than made up for it.

On Saturday, beers were tapped at 2:30 for some 6-nation rugby watching. My Welsh brethren played terribly and got handed an L by the Irish. We then had dinner/drinks at a neighbors from 8:00-1:00. They made some of the best sushi I've ever had. I also had to accept 4 shots a sake out of politeness. Bleh.

On Sunday, we had dinner at a friend's apartment. I left at 10:30 to head up to a Marriott for some Super Bowl watching. That power outage was a killer. It made a late night much later than it needed to be. I crawled into bed at 5:30am, but not before sending an email to work to inform them that I was taking a vacation day on Monday. And so that's what I did. I slept until 11:00 and did some Call of Dutying. It was a great day.

It currently consists of my desktop PC w/ dual monitors, a wall mounted 26" LCD for TV watching and PS3 playing and also my old laptop which I recently tinkered with and managed to bring back to life. It's a pretty solid setup, I'll post pics when it's complete. My living room is now essentially useless unless someone comes over.

On Saturday I watched Groundhog Day for the first time ever. I appreciated it much more because two weeks ago I saw all the locations it was filmed on my work trip to Chicago (filmed in Woodstock, IL). I also watched Magic Mike. That's all I have to say about that.

I also rewatched Louie CK Live @ The Beacon again and reminded myself how much I love his brand of comedy. I got away from watching his TV show and am planning on getting back into it.

Lastly, I'm excited to see what happens in the NBA before the 2/21 trade deadline. I don't like that rumored Garnett for Bledsoe/Caron Butler deal. That doesn't do much for the Celtics as far as rebuilding. I'd like so see them replace Pierce instead. Regardless, it's pretty much a five team race to the championship (Heat, Knicks, Spurs, Thunder, Clips).

I am going to have a newborn in 10 or less weeks. I fully expect to be dealing with a baby. No need to rush on my account. Summer/Fall? Is it going to be this year?

Mark will be in touch with all of you soon about the bachelor festivities. I am EXTREMELY cognizant of everyone's situations, and have decided to opt for a NYC event. This will ensure that everyone can have a good time and not be concerned with flying everywhere and being very far from home (exception of a few that live in DC/Midwest).

It will be fun. I only ask that no one give me Wild Turkey. I have been boycotting it ever since it ruined my chance at a threesome back in college.

Golly, I hope they lose. There's nothing worse than seeing that team win anything. I want Ray Lewis to go out with a whimper. Fuck that murdering, plea bargaining, clothes burning douche.

What's up guys? My life is awesome, but busy these days. Work continues to be great and family stuff is even better.

William turned 2 yesterday so Amy & I each took half-days, left Lewis with the nanny and got after it with my dude. He ate a hamburger and fries at a place called Fritz's (not *that* Fritz, but I know what you're thinking..."UUUUHHHHH-OHHHHHHHHHH!") where trains are heavily involved. There are trains running around the perimeter of the ceiling and your food is even delivered overhead via train! Will was very impressed. We also went to an indoor playground for 1.5 hours, picked out a gourmet cupcake and ate it, got a haircut and ended up then going to a theme restaurant called "T-Rex". He was scared at first but ended up deciding that the animatronic dinosaurs were "Nice dinos" within 15 minutes (10 of which involved an instense staring contest with a nearby, moving Pachycephalosaurus). He crashed shortly after we got home. It was a great day.

This weekend is his b-day party (monster-themed) and my parents will be here by noon tomorrow morning, staying until Tuesday night. I am excited to see them and have a few days off of work.

Random Things:
- Heaves, great hustle. Keep that baby warm and that mom happy. Also, enjoy all of that free time when Kate gets super tired and goes to bed at like 8pm.
- Anyone give "The Americans" on FX a try last night? I'm hearing good things.
- Speaking of TV, I have about 10 movies and 2 full seasons of shows to watch and literally never take the time to watch them. I'm tired by 10pm when I finally settle down from putting the kids down by 8, working out and eating and want to do nothing but play with myself and then fall asleep. The lesson? Don't have 2 kids w/in 18 months. I kid. It's the best.
- More kid talk! Joey, get pumped! I love how crazy prepared you guys are. That is quintessential Joey G style. I cannot wait to "meet" this little mini-Gushue.
- New bar/beer store opened here recently that i've been wanting to try but, of course, have not gotten around to it yet. Apparently it's a bar in that they have 20+ beers on tap (with 10ish rotating multiple times per night) and have happy hours and special days whee you can randall for an extra $4 per beer. But the catch is that you can also buy beers, by the beer, from their coolers. Hadn't heard of a place like this, but maybe you guys have. Sounded cool. Need to organize a work HH to try it out.

I wanna go back to New Orleans with you guys. But have it be 5-10 years ago so I'd have the energy and stamina. I say that b/c I went to Dallas last weekend and drank my face off for 2 straight days and it took me a week to recover (mostly due to the lack of sleep from the trip + the sleep deprivation that comes with children). I cannot be doing marathon drinking sessions anymore, I guess. Getting old stinks. At least I can still get a boner, amiright?

Kisses.
My updates stink. I have funny/interesting things to say during the day but cannot use this outlet. Twitter works best for me from a day to day check-in, FYI. Vic and Lukey- GET ON IT!

This is the FreeCaddie app. Very basic but helpful.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.freecaddie&feature=related_apps#?t=W10.

This is the GolfLogix app. I think the upgrade is $30 but the free version is worthwhile as well.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.golflogix.ui&feature=search_result#?t=W10.

Jeff Kim bought a Skycaddie last year and while I think it's cool, I don't think it's worth the money considering what's out there in the app world. Those GPS units cost $200-300 dollars for the newest ones and then the yearly fee is $50 I believe.

I mentioned this to Joe, but worth sharing with everyone. Keep a small bottle of vanilla extract in your bag. A few dabs on the skin before the round keeps the bugs away better than bug repellent. Not sure if it will work for Vic who seems to attract every bug on the course when he plays.

Gosh, I can't wait to golf this year. I've been swinging the sticks in my living room the past few nights. I'll be joining the local club in April and am excited to have unlimited golf access 2 minutes from where I work.

Hafer, instead of a rangefinder, just download a golf app on your phone. Last season I downloaded a basic app called FreeCaddie that gives you an overview of the hole and yardages to the front, middle and back of the green. For the courses I play regularly and know the layout well, it gives me enough basic data. There's another app I tried called GolfLogix which is much more interactive. I had a 3 round free trial I used and it provides much more data. (yardages to bunkers, water, etc.) I think the paid version of it is $30. I believe on that app you can plug in your club yardages and it will suggest clubs for you as well. Good stuff...

I hurt my wrist this past week at basketball. I jammed or slightly sprained it and was unsure if I could bowl this week but I gave it a go last night. The night started out ugly and we lost game 1 (mostly due to my 152).

The second game was not looking any better. Poyser was bowling really well and he kept us in the game. We were down heading into the 9th frame and I could not find any consistency with my shot. I then asked to borrow Joey Mac's wrist guard. I proceeded to strike out and we won the second game (mostly on the back of Poyser). The third game was a different story and we just kicked butt and won by 90 pins. I bowled a 208 and ordered one of the wrist protectors first thing this morning.

We went 3-1 on the night and should find ourselves in 1st or 2nd next week.

Speaking of ordering things on Amazon, I am stocking up my golf bag for the season. I ordered a cigar clip, some golf gloves, and a golf glove saver.

What must have gadget do you have on your golf bags? I want to make sure that I am not missing anything. I am hoping to get out and hit the range this weekend.

so we went from 1 qb on the roster to having a stable full. dude is a meast.

Two months ago, Penn State had just one committed quarterback -- and that seemed like a pressing issue that might take a while to resolve. With just one QB officially on the roster in Steven Bench, depth was obviously a concern.

Well, it certainly isn't anymore. Bill O'Brien garnered commitments from five players who'll compete at quarterback. And he also convinced four other players -- who were the starting quarterbacks on their respective teams -- to play at other positions at Penn State.

NittanyNation takes a closer look at all these signal-callers:

QUARTERBACKS WHO WILL STAY QBs

Christian Hackenberg, Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy
Stats: Passing -- 156-of-291; 2,144 yards, 24 TDs, 9 INTs. Rushing -- 89 carries, 436 yards, 3 TDs.
Status: Committed (scholarship)

Synopsis: He's the top-rated high school quarterback in the nation. He can make all the throws, has a great arm, and his potential is endless. He just needs to familiarize himself with the playbook and better learn to read defenses. Opposing coaches said he had difficulty picking up disguised coverages and blitzes. He's obviously Penn State's quarterback of the future.

Tyler Ferguson, Visalia (Calif.) College of the Sequoias
Stats: Passing -- 199-of-358; 2,614 yards, 22 TDs, 12 INTs. Rushing -- 52 carries, minus-222 yards, 0 TDs.
Status: Enrolled (scholarship)

Synopsis: He'll compete for the starting job, but he'll likely end up as Bench's backup. He at least gives the staff the ability to redshirt Hackenberg. The juco early enrollee is an athletic quarterback who can scramble -- he didn't have the best OL this past year -- and throw on the run. Opposing coaches said he seemed to get rattled at times, however, and ESPN's scouts believe his mechanics are a bit unrefined.

Jack Seymour, Indianapolis Park Tudor
Stats: Passing -- 1,670 yards, 17 TDs. (Missed two games; other stats N/A.)
Status: Committed as walk-on

Synopsis: He turned down a few MAC offers to walk-on to Penn State, and he's a quality backup who flew under the radar because he played for a struggling team. He was a three-year starter at Park Tudor, which is known for its academics, and the receiving corps there was far from great. He's a leader and constantly played under pressure. He has a high ceiling, and he could eventually be the No. 2 behind Hackenberg after Bench graduates.

D.J. Crook, Worcester (Mass.) Academy
Stats: N/A
Status: Enrolled as walk-on

Synopsis: The postgraduate player was hampered in high school by some bad luck. He missed the U.S. Army All-American Combine as a junior due to mono and, as a senior, he broke his thumb right as schools were intent on offering. He plays no other positions, and that's why his coach at Worcester thought he didn't receive as much recruiting attention. However, Coach Tony Johnson added, he can make the back-shoulder fades, throw the quick outs, the hitches, everything. He helped lead a spread option attack -- despite not playing the option before -- and Johnson said he's able to learn quickly.

Austin Whipple, Salisbury (Conn.) School
Stats: Passing -- 92-of-166; 1,450 yards, 12 TDs, 8 INTs. Rushing -- 60 carries, 135 yards, 6 TDs.
Status: Enrolled as walk-on

Synopsis: He's the son of Mark Whipple, the Cleveland Brown's quarterbacks coach, and he's been forced to play in a lot of different offenses as a result of moving around. His postgraduate coach at Salisbury said that's forced him to find ways to adjust quickly. He's considered an unselfish player.

AP Photo/Gene J. Puskar
Bill O'Brien has already proven his ability to refine quarterbacks.
QBs PLAYING OTHER POSITIONS

Chris Geiss, Malvern (Pa.) Great Valley
Status: Committed as walk-on

Synopsis: He was a dual-threat QB in high school, but Penn State's bringing him in as an athlete. Geiss is likely to play wideout.

Tom Pancoast, Kennett Square (Pa.) Unionville
Status: Committed as walk-on

Synopsis: He played in an option offense, but PSU still gave him the choice to come in as a safety, quarterback -- or both. Pancoast chose safety because he figured he could gain more playing time there. He's hoping to contribute on special teams immediately.

Von Walker, Mill Hall (Pa.) Central Mountain
Status: Committed as walk-on

Synopsis: Even Walker admitted he was basically a running back plugged in as the QB. He doesn't have the skills to be a college quarterback, really, at any level -- but he's very athletic. He runs in the 4.5s, and Penn State wants him as a slotback. Ideally, he'd play a role similar to Alex Kenney.

Anthony Smith, Wayne (Pa.) Valley Forge Military
Status: Enrolled (scholarship)

Synopsis: The postgraduate athlete wasn't even supposed to play quarterback at Valley Forge -- but he stepped up when the starter was lost for the season in Week 1. He also started at cornerback, and that's obviously where Penn State wants him. Smith has an outside shot to replace Eugene Lewis on the scout team, if PSU chooses to redshirt him. PSU needs someone to mimic those dual-threat quarterbacks, after all.

Recap of my past couple weeks.

Two weekends ago, Butts and I were at a low-key bachelor party for Brian Lee. We just got a cabin and ate some delicious food all weekend, including some wagyu steaks and roasted beef tenderloin. Highlight of the trip were the 3.5 hours that I spend in the hot tub that Saturday evening (more than half the time I was in there by myself). I spent most the time eating leftover wagyu, drinking beer, and I fell asleep at one point.

This past weekend, I was in Houston visiting my sister and brother-in-law. It is a huge (600 sq miles), flat, unzoned, ugly place with some really nice areas interspersed. I had some more good food, including my first Whataburger experience (very good), some deeelicious bbq, and Mexican food. On my flight home, this dude in the row in front of me was reading a book entitled: "Refuting Evolution: What PBS and the scientists don't want you to know"

yes, germany is high on the baby making list but only if you first visit dirty italy and ingest herbal supplements.

BoB has been getting a ton of run-ons over the past 2 weeks. yes, they're (mostly) a bunch of "no-name" players from pa but still (some have received offers from some decent mac/similar conferences teams). all you need is for a few of them to pan out and they're totally worth the effort. you also have to consider the fact that he's been able to bolster the incoming class from 13 to almost 25. that's oprah huge given the roster restrictions.

Good choices, Joo. Except for Ireland. Lousy weather and even lousier food. I would save this for another time. Call me a romantic, but a honeymoon should be centered on 3 things: good weather, good food and even better sex. In Ireland, you will questionably only get one of those things. So I would do that other time when you can drink their whiskey and play golf. Speaking of Spain...the Canary Islands are supposed to be awesome too if you just want to relax and see some good scenery. On another tangent, Vietnam is supposed to be the new Thailand. Many Euros are using this as a new vacation spot because it's much cheaper than the trendy alternative.

We aren't really sure where we are going to go for our Honeymoon. We are now looking at Spain or Portugal, but are still researching at this point. We know we really are only spending a little over a week, because she can't be away from her business for too long. We figured we would pick two or three cities at either place and do a combination of taking it easy and seeing sights. We are leaning more towards Lisbon and Algarves, which are still beautiful in October. Then again, we may do someplace like Ireland. So many choices! Joe - Didn't you go to Europe for your Honeymooon? Where did you go?

I am finally almost 100% better from the flue - I hope to get to the gym for a light workout tonight.

Our team had a great first half. We went 22-2 in the final 8 weeks to make the first half finals where we won 3-1.

The core of the team is Joey Mac, Poyser, and myself. Mrs. Joey Mac bowled with us for the first half of the year then got sick of it. Then, Mrs. Ryan Poyser joined the team and we caught fire.

We just do a nice job of bowling better than our average and winning close games. Joey Mac has a 160 average and Jenn has a 135 average.

I have steadily increased my average up to a 181 and Ryan is our anchor with a 188. Ryan's ceiling is much, much higher than his present average. He was always a +200 bowler prior to this year and he is finding his rhythm again. He is starting to put up some 700 series in recent weeks.

We did well to start off the second half and we are putting us in good shape for the money at the end of the year.

Goodness, that line was low.

My bowling league isn't going so well this year. My average has been hovering in the low 170's all season and I can't seem to improve. The other 4 guys on my team have averages in the 195-220 range so I'm by far the suckiest bowler. It sucks to suck.

Vic, are you still betting thru Yen's pinny acct? I'm interested in MLing the Ravens for a jermajesty or two. I am not a fan of betting against Ray Lewis playing in his last ever game with God on the Ravens sideline (if God was into murderers). There is no doubt in my mind that #52 will leave his cleats in the endzone a la Tim Riggins. I can't wait for that moment.

We had about 45-50 people over for the festivities so I imagine it was quite loud and loud late into the night. Im glad our neighbors arent assholes.

vert, good call on the pro bowl. The line came in at 85 which was ridiculous considering everyone knows there isnt a single player in the nfl that cares about that game anymore. I def shoulda bet more. I doubled down my pro bowl bet on the super bowl. I got the niners at -4. I think they are such a bad matchup for the ravens. Based off what Ive seen out of the ravens run d this year I think the niners pistol is gonna give them fits. I also think Flacco is gonna struggle mightily with the 3rd and longs hell be facing due to the staunch niners run d. My only worry is how ridiculously atrocious akers has been this year. If the niners struggle in the red zone, I could be in trouble. I am excited for this super bowl though.

Ive been trying to recruit people around here to join a bowling league but to no avail. Im extremely jealous. I need vert and matty to move down to northern virginia.

Greetings Sports fans!

My annual Superbowl Questions game is back for its 7th year of making the "Big Game" more fun.

We started with 34 players in Year #1 and had 279 players last year. I'm hoping to top 300 players this year!

If you've never played before, don't worry... it's really easy and fun.

Just answer simple questions about various things that will happen during the game.

You don’t need to be a sports guru and some of the questions aren’t even about football.

Sample questions:

· Which team will score first?

· Which company's commercial will appear first: GoDaddy or Coca Cola.

· Will the first commercial after kickoff be for an alcoholic beverage?

· Will both teams Score in the First Quarter?

· Which team will call the first timeout?

The Buy-in is once again only $10.

It’s inexpensive enough that your spouses, dates, friends, kids and dogs can play too.

I’ve heard from many of you that this game was the hit of your SuperBowl parties last year and those that didn’t have entries really wanted to play! So please forward this to anyone and everyone you know that would like to play. If you get a group to play, you can send in one check with everyone's money. Just let me know everyone in your group.

Last year’s winner won $1,500 and we paid out $2,500 in total.

I’m hoping for 300 players this year for an even bigger jackpot.

Picks will be done entirely on my OfficePickem.com website.

· Go to the league website: http://www.officepickem.com/superbowl.php

· You’ll need to create an account if you don’t have one.

· If you played last year, you already have an account. Just login. If you forgot your password or username, click the “Forgot Password” link and it will be emailed to you.

· If you’ve never played this game before, just create an account. It’s free and only takes a few seconds.

o (If you’ve played any other OfficePickem game before, you can use the same account, just log in!)

· Once logged in, you can answer your questions and make changes up until Superbowl Sunday.

· Your $10 MUST be paid before the Superbowl to make your entry official. Info for payment arrangements can be found on the website.

Anyways, I hope that you decide to play. It should be a lot of fun!

Please sign up and invite others as well.

Thanks and Good Luck!

Here comes the worst month of the year. We are experiencing the same weather pattern over here. I can't wait for the bike paths to be snow and ice free so I can get 50 minutes of extra exercise per day.

Today, was a day of firsts. I went for the first time to the gym over my lunch break. I ran for the first time in probably over a year due to my feet issues. I bought this thing call the Foot Rocker for $15 which seems to have cured all my woes. I use it every morning to stretch out my calves and achilles tendons. The pain will soon be all but a memory.

Bowling is something I don't do enough. German bowling (9-pin) is funny. It's insanely difficult to get a strike.

Hello, everyone. I hope everyone's week is off to a fantastic start. We are finally starting to thaw out here in Philadelphia. It is supposed to get into the 60s tomorrow before getting much colder again this weekend.

Nothing new with me.

I am enjoying watching the TV series Misfits. The PLEX application is ridiculous. I can't believe Hafer did not tell me about it earlier.

Our bowling team is back at it tomorrow night. We started the second half off 10-2 after winning the first half. Bowling is fun.

I planned a work happy hour for Thursday. I am already looking to turning the calendar to February and enjoying a quiet weekend.

We have Croatia on our to-do list, but when it's warmer. The beaches/scenery are supposed to be amazing, so we might save that for next summer. In the beginning of April, you're looking at highs in the low 60's. That would include Istanbul, Rome, Croatia, southern France, Barcelona. The exception is Seville and Lisbon, which you might be able to get into the 70's. In northern Germany, you will still be in the low 50's. Because of the lower temps, Italy isn't as smelly as it could be. So that is a plus.

Kate is 16 weeks plus some days.

As for soccer, I do plan on seeing a game. The tickets are both expensive and difficult to come by (so I've heard) and I haven't quite figured out how to get my hands on them (nor have I looked). But I intend to ask around. I anticipate paying between 100-150 euro. I also need a Bavarian flag so I can wear it as a cape. Then I just need to find someone who wants to join me.

no, ireland is out because caruso stinks. she has promised next year... we'll see.

what is the weather like in late march across europe? i'd go where it's warm (train trip along the south of france, fake-taco-land, and portugal). italy is dumb (not to mention smelly). i've also heard great things about slovenia, croatia, mounted-negros, turkey and albania. dirt cheap + amazing scenery. that'd be a lot of land to cover so maybe just a few of them.

how far along is kate (i could do the math given her due date but am far too lazy).

have you gone to any soccer matches? if not, are you going to when they start after the winter break? if not, you are dumb.

Heaves - I watch the first 10-15 min the first night and thought, "Meh, this seems dumb but I'll watch more tomorrow." The next night I watched another 15 min and confirmed that it was indeed dumb.

The passing up of chefs and then immediately regretting it was just a dumb element of the show.

I watched some of the XGames last night because I enjoy watching Shaun White do what he does. It's awesome to watch someone dominate a sport.

Will your baby have to live at the airport like Tom Hanks did in The Terminal?

The Taste - Vert, thanks for steering me towards this show. It sucks! I hated every part of it. The judges repeatedly commented "Gosh, I wish I would have picked you. Your food was good. But I didn't pick you because I'm an idiot. So goodbye." Multiply this by about 25 times, and you have the entire show. Also, Judge Malarky is an ass. Probably because his name is Malarky. What were your thoughts about the show?

Friday I went out to a bar I haven't been to yet. Long story short, I loved it! They served beer by the glass and I had many. It's located in a college part of town which makes the crowd more lively.

Saturday, I took Tony's advice to store up on sleep. I slept til 11:00. We did our usual Saturday bike ride to the grocery store and brought back some goodies. Then it was a quiet evening in.

It rained on Sunday, so another excuse to be disgustingly lazy.

We are starting to give some thought to where we will go at the end of March. Here's what's in the running:

1. Italian tour - all Italy all the time (~3 locations)
2. Northern Europe tour - some combination, but maybe not all, of Berlin, Hamburg, Brussels, Amsterdam and Copenhagen
3. Sunny, Spicy tour - Portugal and Southern Spain
4. Eastern tour - Istanbul, Budapest and Vienna

Hafer, are you still thinking about coming to Ireland this year?

We're not sure what the citizenship rules are here. We were informed that since neither parent is a Germany citizen, there will be no offering of citizenship to Baby Heaves. We have yet to confirm this, but it sounds like a rule Germany would have. Such selfish people.
