Date Posted: 11:38:31 01/25/13 Fri Thanks for all the birthday wishes, guys. It was an awesome day out on the slopes. I went with an Irish buddy of mine and a buddy of his (also Irish). It was nice to see that I could hold my own compared to guys who ski a lot more frequently than I do. I did have one heck of a wipe out, which was kind of my fault, kind of not. I had to try to stop myself on a very steep and narrow slope because some nitwits were parked in the middle of my to-be-path, just sitting there. It was going to be risky to maneuver around them going as fast as I was and due to the steepness/narrowness of the trail, other skiers, etc. They really shouldn't have been sitting there on that type of slope doing absolutely nothing. Anyways, when I tried to stop, my skis slid out from under me and I ended up sliding half way down the slope on my side. The best part is what my friend refers to as "bowling" (I was the metaphorical ball and the 3 nitwits are the pins). I slid at least 50 yards right towards them and took one of them out. Justice! As soon as I got around them, my momentum had slowed enough that I could push myself upright and ski off. The fact that my skis did not fall off during the ordeal was an added bonus. Hansel and Gretel comes out today. There always has to be one movie in January with a nice looking lady fitted in the finest leather garb. (see Underworld 1-4). While the movie itself may not be awesome, the fact that Kate and I are expecting our own little Hansel or Gretel in July is! (Surprise!!) Yep, our due date is July 13th and everything has been looking good so far. We were able to surprise our families with the news over the holidays but we wanted to wait a little longer for everyone else. We plan to go public in a few weeks after our next ultrasound, at which we will also likely be finding out the baby’s sex. While we were open to waiting until the baby’s birth, we figured we’ll have enough on our plate being in a foreign country, and one less variable might be helpful. We are not sure what Kate will be doing after the pregnancy/maternity leave. Ideally, Kate would go part time and the baby would go into daycare for 3 days a week. But this may not be possible since daycare spots are extremely scarce in Germany and we may not get one. Once we go public with Kate’s boss, etc. we should be able to gather more information. We’re not sure if they will allow her to switch to part time, but our initial thinking is that they will. Her boss is bat-shit crazy though, so who knows. |

Date Posted: 10:52:49 01/23/13 Wed I would have thought that Kristen's recent performances (of crushing) would have carried her through versus Josie's performances (of sucking ass). However I also believe that they are keeping Josie on the show for the controversy. I still have no idea who the frontrunner is and they are down to 6 contestants left. The only person I'm not feeling is Mr. Mustache. |

Date Posted: 16:40:49 01/22/13 Tue I guess spoiler, but the ep is almost a week old. Also, Kristen did an awful job trying to manage every aspect. She was essentially digging her own grave. Also, Kristen did really well at the front of the house. When you know what you're doing, (Fabio was exceptional on his season) it looks very easy. Overall I hate this season for a few reasons. 1 - They added CJ, Josie and Stefan from the reject pile. 2 - They brought back LCK just so they can have some lame web content. 3 - There's also a popular vote element to LCK. There will be a final faceoff between the faceoff winner and the popular vote winner. That winner will get to the finale in either the 3rd or 4th position. |

Date Posted: 15:35:45 01/22/13 Tue Kristen deserved to go home because she talked herself off the show. If you look at it purely from the challenge, Josie was a failure. Kristen is ultimately there to manage her, but Josie showed zero accountability for anything she did. Shutting her mouth during the deliberation was the only smart thing Josie has done all season. Our fantasy league is down to me and my sister. She has Brooke and Lizzie. I have Sheldon and Josh. I'm currently in the lead, 159-150. |

Donkey Kong Suh or Ed Reed would have been fined and possibly suspended for a play like that. First SB line is SF -4. I guess I'm a tad surprised it's that high. My first thought is that it would be -2.5. Vic, are you betting the Pro Bowl over this weekend. As long as it's under 90, it should be a lock. |

Some older asshole spent the whole time I was there practically hacking up a lung with a deep, disgusting cough and not even covering his mouth. I combated his biological warfare with a chemical attack of my own - I dropped some wicked, silent but deadly, rotten egg farts right next to the machine he was on. Date Posted: 07:32:40 01/17/13 Thu Joe, quite the impressive list of movies that you have seen recently. I like that you graded one on a 4 point scale, while using a 5 point scale for the rest. I saw Silver Linings Playbook over the holidays with my parents and enjoyed it more than I expected. Bradley Cooper was surprisingly good and Jennifer Lawrence was parading her ass around in yoga pants for good chunks of the movie. It would make a good date movie. Butts and I saw Zero Dark Thirty last night; I thought it was more interesting than entertaining. We both agreed that Jessica Chastain was pretty bad. That being said, I still wouldn't mind having sex with her. Speaking of Zero Dark Thirty, this WaPo article was pretty interesting: http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/in-zero-dark-thirty-shes-the-hero-in-real-life-cia-agents-career-is-more-complicated/2012/12/10/cedc227e-42dd-11e2-9648-a2c323a991d6_story_1.html It seems like TV is picking up. I've enjoyed the beginning of the Justified season. Archer starts tonight and An Idiot Abroad starts this weekend. I'm intrigued enough to give The Americans a chance when it debuts at the end of the month. Does anyone, besides Vert, still watch Top Chef? This week's episode was maddening to me. Hafer, I loved the story about the dude outsourcing his own job. This Manti Te'o story cracks me up. I am pretty sure that he was involved, given past quotes from him and his family in articles. I don't know if he is gay, an absolute moron that got catfished, or what, but this has filled me with glee. There have been hilarious tweets on the subject, many referencing ND and the title game. I really liked Seth Meyers: "These Te'o jokes are all very funny but let's all try and remember that a person who never existed is dead." I also saw a funny gif of Brian Kelly in a Usual Suspects like end scene that was pretty well done. It's also nice that this is shining a light on the rape that ND refused to investigate and the Declan Sullivan death that they swept under the rug. What do you Iggles fans think of the Chip Kelly hiring? I have been on record for a couple years now that I don't see his system working in the NFL. I'm sure that he'll modify it, but I'm just not sold on him. Given the way the season played out, I can't imagine Vick being an Eagle next year, but I would think that Kelly would prefer him for his offense. I'm not sold on the Trestman hiring for the Bears either. Everything I read suggests that it will be a home run hire or a miserable failure. I would have much preferred Bruce Arians (I'm shocked that he hasn't been hired yet, but it looks like he may end up with the Cardinals). |

Date Posted: 11:41:38 01/15/13 Tue There's not a whole lot of exciting things to report here, but let's see what I can dig up. I am finally back on a normal sleeping pattern. I did not do well adjusting at all. But 4 extra days off when we got back to Munich didn't really help to force me into any kind of schedule. Anyways, all this means is I'm back to hitting the sack around 11:30p and sleeping all the way through the night until 6:30a. Then, maybe hitting the snoozer until 7:00a. We just started getting back into the ol' workout routine. Today was day #1 of exercising in 2013. We tore through the first half of season 5 of Breaking Bad. They have set things up nicely for the last half. Can't wait. This past weekend it was pretty tame at the Heavener household. I had some happy hour beers on Friday night and then passed out early before the additional beers I put outside could get cold. On Saturday, I went to the Post Office to drop off Kate's luggage that was damaged during our trip back. US Airways is going to take care of it. Then we rode our bikes to the grocery store and got that done. We lazed around a bit and got Stoli on a new diet of cat food. She had stopped eating the German cat food out of disgust perhaps, so we switched to Purina brand. (USA USA!) I made some mighty delicious Chinese food for dinner on Saturday night. The Chinese food is not that great here in Germany and so we've decided to take matters into our own hands. So far we have 3 dishes in our repertoire. I'm looking to learn how to make crispy shredded beef next. Sunday, there was more lazing, some cleaning, and dinner at an Italian restaurant with some friends. I had the gnocci if you must know. This coming weekend, I am thinking of going to some of the local museums (on Sundays it's only 1 euro per building) or taking a day trip to Salzburg, Austria. Or maybe I'll go skiing again! Next week, I'm taking off on the 23rd to go skiing as a little birthday treat to myself. In the middle of February, we are going to Paris for 4 nights. And lastly, at the end of March, I convinced Kate that it's better for us to do some European traveling instead of going back to the States. We are not yet sure where we are going to go but we should be deciding on that soon. It might be an Italian tour .If we go down that way, it would make sense to include Rome, but only it we can avoid doing so not on Easter weekend. Northern Germany, Amsterdam and London are also options. Joe, it sounds like you guys are approaching the home stretch. When is the due date exactly? You make it sound like it's going to be in March rather than April. Any luck on figuring out Ali's work situation now that she's a rising star too? Jono, I can't wait until William starts Aaaachting out it public. Also, your leg made it into the spank bank. Hafer, good work on getting sick and all that jazz. Joo, I saw on twitter that you and Remy the Cat were having a puking contest last Friday. Who won? Vic, engageed! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacht! Is a wedding date picked out yet? Vert, Lukey and Tony, gosh I miss you guys but I have to catch my train. |

That's putting shit in perspective. This past weekend, I hung out with Evan on Friday night and we did a Fishtown pub crawl. It was an excellent time capped off with cheesesteaks at Jim's. We went to Frankford Hall, a bottle shop, Grady O's, Barcade, North Bowl, and Standard Tap. Saturday, Ali and I bought our baby furniture and picked out a paint color for the second bedroom. We also put away all of our Christmas decorations and cleaned out more junk in advance of the baby. We then enjoyed some excellent football games. Sunday, more of the same. Cleaning up in advance of Baby G and moving furniture around. Then, we watched the Sunday games. We went over the McHales for a GG party on Sunday night because I am gay like that. TV REALLY stinks now. We are struggling to find shit to watch. Saw some movies recently ... all reviews out of 5 stars: The Man With the Iron Fists - 2/5, first 15 mins good and then the rest stinks Trouble with the Curve - 2/5, Clint should just direct from here on out Argo - 4/5, well made but not the best movie of the year Judge Dredd - 4/5, fun Django Unchained - 5/5, everything i wanted it to be ... 20 mins too long Flight - 2/5, boring First Position - 4/5, great ballet doc Queen of Versailles - 5/5, highly recommended Indie Game: The Movie - 3/4, interesting Zero Dark Thirty - 3/5, forgettable, Chastain stunk Killing Them Softly - 2/5, terrible, boring, last 2 mins cool Life of Pi - 4/5, gorgeous Sunda |

Date Posted: 14:14:50 01/08/13 Tue Sorry for the infrequent posting as of late. The goings on in my life may be best followed on Twitter. I am making a long overdue post capping the past few days. Friday, I went out to HH with Tommy and then watched Killing Them Softly (the Mrs went to bed early). We go to HH at the Perch Pub where there are 1/2 drafts and we have a nice relationship with the bartenders. Tommy and I are regulars there and the bartenders take care of us -- the bar was pouring Russian River and Firestone Walker beers -- that makes us come in there a bunch. Killing Them Softly stunk. Highly overrated. Saturday, we went to birth class at the hospital where the baby is going to be delivered. That was interesting and somewhat informative. Having a baby pop out of my wife is definitely going to be an experience. Saturday night we watched some shitty NFL games with Tommy. We got growlers of beer from Tired Hands and Tommy brought over chips and salsa from the Italian Market. Sunday we watched less shitty NFL games. I did some work on the second bedroom to get it prepared for the baby. We also finalized the date of Ali's baby shower ... all of the ladies in the area and DC area should expect to receive invitations in the coming weeks. It is set for February 23. Saturday night, I went to Ryan Poyser's Mom-Mom's wake. It was up in Bensalem. I saw Tony and Justin Humes (and the Humes family). Tony and I hit the Hulmville Inn after for some beers - the bar is a Mecca for beers in Bucks county but they were pouring some shitty beer that night. Check out the label on the beer Tony ordered: http://allthesamebeer.com/2012/12/07/beer-review-0281-clown-shoes-genghis-pecan-pie-porter/8eebb85a40c111e297b922000a1fa527_7/ I got named to the 2013 PA Rising Star List. This received by 2.5% of attorneys in the state. The Rising Star distinction is for younger attorneys. The nominations are done by peers and it looks really good. It should help get my name out there and help out the firm. I will be listed in the June edition of Philly Mag. Ali was also named a Rising Star this year. We still don't know how we are going to handle the work situation with her when the baby comes along. We are going to see how flexible her work would be with her. We are planning on 3 day a week day care and part-time hours at this point. That's it for me. Bowling on Wed! So pumped. Our team won the 1/2 half of the season and guaranteed ourselves a spot in the year end championship. |

Date Posted: 09:29:33 01/08/13 Tue Before I get to the weekend, I would like to mention how disappointing the bowl games were this year, culminating with last night's stinker. I had no idea that the best game that I would see would be the Arizona game on the first day. Friday night I watched SkyFall. I wasn't thrilled with this movie. I was disappointed with the car scenes. Also, since I know a little bit about viruses and hacking, I know how ridiculously impossible the story was. Saturday I found myself buying girls underwear in Walmart. Man I felt like such a creep. It didn't help that I was in the wrong section first. I was in the girls section when apparently I needed to be in the toddler section. Of course it took forever to find what I was looking for so my plan of getting in and getting out quick didn't work. I was joking later that I should have filled my shopping cart up with candy before I went into the aisle to make it look even creepier. Sunday was spent watching Audrey piss all over the house. Toilet training is interesting. Then I watched The Campaign. That movie was hilarious. I seriously laughed pretty hard at some points. I have no idea how I lost the Summer Movie fantasy pool with this gem. Hafer, thanks for putting out such a shitty flu vaccine this year. Apparently they missed the strain that is going around near me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I avoid it. |

Date Posted: 12:07:26 01/07/13 Mon before my weekend recap, stone is releasing an iasip inspired brew - http://goo.gl/8SREj my weekend was interesting. thursday, hanna was sent home due to her exceeding daycare's wet poops per day rule (apparently more than 3 and you have to go home). she didn't have a fever and her mood, other than pooping a lot, was fine. friday, she was seemingly fine. saturday, caruso gets up and says she doesn't feel well. she spends the day: 1) laying in bed; 2) pooping; and 3) puking. i was supposed to meet up with stone in bawlmur so we had to bring over caruso's aunt to help watch hanna. i get to stones around 6 and we pound some beers while people show up. by the end of my second my stomach started to feel odd so, at the end of the game, after continuing to feel worse, i said i had to bounce on home because i felt sick. before i left, i had a nice liquidy poo. good times-a-comin'! i make it home fine, but a few times, felt the "i have to liquid poo" feeling in my gut and butt, but nothing too bad. i get home, tell caruso's aunt what was up (hanna was in bed by now and she was just watching movies so there was nothing to do) and proceeded to pee out of my butt for the next 30 minutes. caruso, in the meantime, had started to feel much better but was very tired/weak. i tell her i'm going to go to bed (it was around 9). around 10, i wake up and know it's on. back to the bathroom i go. after more liquid fire i felt the unmistakable urge to replace my butt with my face in the toilet. i made it just in time. out came everything i ate in the past 36 hours. it was an awful bought of vomiting (even by normal puking standards). the good thing was that, once i was done, i felt a bajillion times better. while i was in the pooper, caruso had called my rents to ask if they could come down to help with hanna on sunday. they, of course, agreed, and came down with soup, jello and all the other usual goodies you eat when you feel like poo. they checked out and headed back north at halftime of the first game, by which time we were feeling much better. the rest of the day, we forced ourselves to eat and drink and now, we're both fine. in summation: 1) stomach bugs are the worst; and 2) children are disgusting filthy animals. |

Date Posted: 18:52:43 01/04/13 Fri It was a helluva trip back to the US of A. We both had trouble adjusting back to east coast time. My body could not figure out when a good time was to poop for several days (mornings, duh!). And, as Vic had pointed out, it's not easy to avoid the kiss of death when it comes to visiting with baby/toddler/very young children. In total, we had 7 little monsters constantly breathing, snotting, sneezing, drooling and throwing up on us. Kate's niece and nephew got sick while we were in Monroe. One had the flu and the other something else. I got the something else. I got drank 2 cartons of OJ in 12 hours to bring me back. If it was not for the flu shot I got in September, I would have suffered much much more. The food was great and I am easily the fattest I've ever been. I had Chilis x2, buffalo wings, steak, chinese, sushi, mexican, pizza, Christmas Eve gumbo, Christmas day gumbo, Christmas day ham, green been casserole, sweet potato casserole, various chips and dips, taco bell, margaritas, lots of whiskey and scotch, beer.... I went duck hunting for the first time. Or hunting for that matter. It's another way of life down there. I had a hand in killing 3 of these fine beasts, and then grilling, eating and pooping them. Circle of life! My comrades in arms were not shy about throwing out the N word. My mouth dropped every time. We got some Lukey, Art, Tony, Jen and Joo time. My parents threw a NYE party and surprised me by inviting one of my old soccer buddies. I got drunk. I got him drunk too. We had sex. Overall, just a solid time hanging out with everyone. We got back to Munich yesterday, and I woke up a little sick today and so I took my first sick day. I just woke up from a 3 hour nap and feel just about back to normal, except for the fact that I'm not tired like I should at this time at night. This will be rectified with a 2-3 hour Halo session. For Christmas, I got an Apple TV, Halo 4, Call of Duty, a new watch, a keyboard for my iPad, tool belt, Total Recall, Underworld 4, bike pants and jacket, neither of which are skin tight, alarm clock/phone charger, and a few other thisses and thats. Thank you everyone for the holiday cards. We had a pile in our mailbox waiting to greet us on our return. Joe -- Ali is looking good. There's definitely a baby in there. The rest of you look good too. Just not pregnant good. I will selfishly second and third Hafer's idea to have the Joo/Chin weddings on the same day/weekend. Get the girls together and make it happen. I feel 2013 is going to go by really quickly. BOB to stay...good news. Too early to know the new contract terms? That's it. Enjoy the weekend fellas. |

The how was really the only surprise element. I could have went with teh surprise proposal and then had her pick out the ring afterwards but there are a mulititude of reasons why this was not a good way to go. |

Date Posted: 16:23:23 01/02/13 Wed The NCAA is despicable. That guy they trotted out at the press conference today was a pos. For him to say that this lawsuit is: "an affront to all of the victims in this tragedy" is complete bs. The NCAA in no way, shape, or form represents the victims. Neither the football penalties nor the $60 million dollars, which is ultimately PA taxpayer money, is going to help the victims of these incidences. Basically, they were just invoking these horrible acts for pr purposes to grab the moral high ground. Disgusting. Also, it is quite clear that the board and leadership of the school breached their fiduciary duty in their handling of this situation from beginning to end. Legal action should be taken to remove them from power as well. |

Date Posted: 14:04:58 01/02/13 Wed hey everyone. needless to say I had quite the exciting holiday season. Thanks everyone for the congrats. So a quick recap: So for those that don't know we spent the holidays this year hanging out with my family and extended family at my cousins house right outside las vegas. We decided to fly in a few days earlier than everyone else to spend some time on the strip and at the grand canyon. So we flew in on the 19th and didnt do anything after landing except walk around a bit, grab a bite, then crash. On the 20th we just walked around the strip all day long, picking up some christmas gifts along the way. That night I had procured tickets to check out Jersey Boys so we did that. I enjoyed it immensely and highly recommend it if you are ever deciding on a vegas show. After the show, we scooted over to Mandalay Bay to grab a late dinner at Burger Bar. I had the buffalo burger and a couple bloody marys and they were all delicious as usual. Im not sure if this is new or not as I dont recall ever seeing it during any of my previous visits, but for dessert I had the beer ice cream float assortment. Some of the ice cream / beer combinations worked really well while others I wasnt the biggest fan of. It was interesting to try although I think I shoulda gone with one of the many alcoholic milk shakes they offer for dessert instead. One downside to this trip to the Burger Bar, however, was that both Lulu and I got stricken with a nasty case of food poisoning the details of which i will spare you guys. This probably wont prevent me from continuing to go to Burger Bar every time Im in vegas, but I was quite shocked and disappointed that this happened. So the next day, we hit the road to journey to the grand canyon. The drive was pretty easy as it is very scenic and you can drive 90+ the entire way. So obviously, this is where the proposal happened. Basically we walked around for awhile taking in the views and taking pictures. We get to one outlook and basically it played out very similarly to this, except yelling over a railing into a canyon... very cheesy stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDhjpqIQS84 your standard one knee proposal followed. So all this happened on the day the world was supposed to end, which never transpired, so now im stuck in this engagement. stupid mayans. Oh and Lukey, funny you asked the thing about Jabari cuz I was going pretty nuts after I found out Jabari committed to Duke and Lulu was like "how come youre acting like that's the most exciting thing that has happened this trip". So after the engagement we stayed overnight at the canyon and then drove back to vegas the next day and met up with family. The rest of the trip was spent doing family stuff. Its always awesome to hang out with family, the only downside was we spent so much time playing with my cousin's kids, that Lulu and I came down with nasty sinus infections that we are still trying to get over. It is ridiculous how these days if I spend any prolonged period of time around kids I am pretty much guaranteed to come down with something. I assume that once you become a parent you start to develop some immunity to the bacteria these kids carry around with them no? Anyways, thats my holiday season in a nutshell. happy new year bitches! |

Cons, which are minor: Plastic housing is a little flimsy Limited apps. Since this chromebook uses an ARM processor, a lot of the x86 apps don't work. Date Posted: 01:38:04 12/24/12 Mon My plan was to have Rena pick the exact ring she wanted. Knowing her, picking the ring for her and then proposing to her in a traditional sense would have been nothing short of disastrous. I took a look at a few jewelers and the one I chose in NYC impressed me the most with regards to overall quality of product and what I would be getting for the money I paid. I actually already spoke with the Jeweler and planned the visit in advance, so that Rena would see a slew of appropriate choices (no sense in her seeing things beyond my price range) and then pick the final ring she wanted. It should also be noted that they do not offer rings off of the shelf. The diamonds are selected and cut by them, and the rings are made to order. Funny enough, it was where my parents actually got their wedding rings (the place has been around for almost 100 years). A side story that was a part of the proposal: Rena and I were watching Weeds and there was a scene where the main characters were changing their identities. Rena then asked me if I could change my name to anything, what would I change it to. This lead to some fun conversation. Back to NYC - Rena was thinking that we were just going to lunch and then spending the weekend in the city. As we were close to the Jeweler, I mentioned the conversation about changing identities that we had the night before during that episode of Weeds. I then asked her how "Rena Yudell" sounded, and thinking nothing really of it, responded to me with "That sounds really nice". I then proceeded to walk her into the Jewelry store and she asked me what we were doing there. I told her that we were browsing for one more thing (we had been shopping that morning for other things), and if she said yes to the next question, then we would be buying something as well. Rena still had no clue. As I approached the Jeweler, she said "Hello Evan, how are you." Rena, at this point, was still shocked and not sure what was going on. I proceeded to tell the Jewler that we were there to look at Engagement rings. At this point, Rena gave me that wide-eyed shocked look, the question I was referring to before, is "Will you marry me?" She started to cry and said "yes". In fact, she asked me to ask her multiple times that day, because of how it made her feel. She got the ring she wanted, and was expecting it to be done and ready by the second week of January. Surprise: It's already done and she'll be getting it on Christmas Eve. Double Surprise. |

Date Posted: 16:04:01 12/19/12 Wed To answer your bonus question. Bonuses are typically paid 2.5 months after your company's year end. There is a provision in the tax law that allows companies to deduct bonuses paid within 2.5 months of year end on their prior year tax return. So, Hafer has a calendar year company and Joo works at a company that has a year end in July. I would say July 31, but my guess is Ferguson is a 52/53 company that ends on a specific day of the week every year. |

Date Posted: 10:17:57 12/19/12 Wed On my way to DC. I have a meeting late this afternoon. Then a train ride home. Tomorrow is a pretty light day doing expense reports and a couple meetings. Then it's 12 glorious days off in a row. Apparently my company does a pretty crappy job of giving out bonuses. I get a skype call from my manager that starts out like this "If you haven't checked your bank account yet". However I can't really complain since it was the best bonus I've ever received. I got a new xbox and Jen got a kitchen table. Hafer, curse you times two. 1. Audrey is all congested. 2. I tried to get a McGriddle this morning for breakfast. Thankfully the line was too long for me to wait in. |

Date Posted: 00:23:32 12/19/12 Wed The Hulkster leg drop is my favorite board header in a long time. Nice job. How can one with as much money as Wade Boggs have such an awful shirt? Pay someone to buy your clothes for you, man! Bonus day was about 1.5 weeks ago at the office and man, that was a fun day. I even got one and was only there for a few weeks. I cannot to be there for a full year. Other than being super happy with the actual job, this couldn't have been a better move financially for the Conway family. Speaking of, every one of those family members is or has been sick with the flu, most recently Lewis (Sunday was the start of it). Not surprisingly, I have not acquired it and do not plan to. I'm a man. I never thought I would say it, but there are just too many parties to go to around the holidays. Once this weekend finishes up, we will have gone to 7 in the past 3 weeks. I am left exhausted by Monday morning. 5-day weekend (hopefully) FTW! I got nothing else. If I don't stop back in, I wish everyone a happy holiday. I love you guys. |

Date Posted: 12:09:39 12/17/12 Mon This weekend was really fun and exhausting. Friday: I hit happy hour at the Perch Pub with Tommy, Poyser, McHale and Colleen. Had some beers there ... it was a good time. Then, I met up with Ali and headed to Fette Sau (a new BBQ place) with the McHales. Tommy met us there with his buddy Devlin. Ali called it a night after dinner. We moved on to Frankford Hall next door for some .5L beers. We had some of the beers outside next to the firepits. Around 12a, the night is winding down when Tom has the bright idea to go to a strip club. I make it back to my apartment around 3:30a. I did not feel great on Saturday morning. Saturday: Ali and I headed out to the burbs and hung out at Tony's place. We were able to meet up with the Hafers too. I had a great time hanging out with Tony and Hafer and playing with three adorable little ladies. Saturday night, I had a black tie firm party downtown. The food at the event was so-so but we had a good time. Again, Tom and I had a late night at the after party. I did not feel great on Sunday morning. |

Date Posted: 04:50:47 12/14/12 Fri Hafer, I would definitely be up for meeting you there. When are you thinking about coming over? We have some trips in the infancy of their planning stages. Paris in February. Maybe a trip back to the US for Easter. I would love to steer this trip to somewhere more European but it's looking like that will be our last chance to visit until next Christmas. I think both sets of parents are talking about visiting in the summer. Then, there is Oktoberfest. The good news is that I will have about 41-42 vacation days to play around with next year. 11-12 of those being carried over from this current calendar year but need to be used by March 31 which happens to be Easter. Joe, Arrow!!!! I'm glad to hear the positive reviews coming from you. I wasn't sure how the show was going to pan out as far as quality. I watched the first 2 episodes a while back, but I have 6 more on the Tivo. It's definitely not Kate's cup of tea, so I'll have to find time to catch up on my own. I'm excited to dive into this this weekend. Another show that is surprisingly good is Elementary. It's like watching House but for solving crime. The only thing that could make the show better is if Hugh Laurie was Sherlock Holmes. New Girl is still great. Winston is definitely the weakest link. I wish he was a better character. Tomorrow the beard comes off. Though it does a tremendous job of keeping my face warm. But things are always getting caught in it. Yesterday, I found some rice from the night before. Oh, I kid. But I don't have a trimming kit and I miss my smooth face. Lukey, let me know what you have in mind for the 20th. We could meet just about anywhere. Will Vert be in town? Also, for the others, Kate and I might try to come into the Philly area on the 29th or 30th. |

Date Posted: 04:00:23 12/14/12 Fri Thanks, Joe. Spoken like a true up and coming shareholder. One more year! There will definitely be tons of work next year. We are basically waiting to get the the green light from the business units that they will support our campaigns (to provide resources such as technical experts, reverse engineering, etc.) and that money will be allocated where it needs to be. Once that happens, I will be leading the march on 2 of what I think will be 4 investigations. Full speed ahead. It's simply impossible to get things moving this time of year. It's awesome! As far as work, that is a little tricky. My division is basically pre-litigation and offensive litigation. And so any firm we use in one of my campaigns would have to be a firm we are prepared to use to go all the way with in a suit. We have a list of board approved firms we are permitted to use for litigation. If you aren't on the list, we would need to get the board to add you to the list. As far as I know, and to no slight to VK which is a very capable firm, this is a very selective list that includes only the top (or recognized as the top) litigation firms. Perceptions are everything I guess. I have only worked with Fish and Rich and Kirkland Ellis. That said, if there's a way to steer this work in your direction, I will. However, staying seated in your fancy center city office certainly doesn't help. To have a chance of being recognized, a business trip is needed. Wink wink. Prosecution is much easier to get your hands on. But you would need take a business trip over here, put on a presentation on US patent law/procedure, make a presentation on your firm, and then make a business pitch/offer for the work. That's the gist anyways. But this is my baby and the reason I came over here. I just have to decide on which direction I want to go when I move back. If I make another go at VK, I would love to be the one to bring in the work (for obvious reasons). In fact, I probably don't see VK taking me unless I am able to bring some work in. If I go to a smaller firm or start my own, again, I'd like to have that as my work base. If I lateral to another in-house job, then I'd like to get you some of that work at the very least since I won't be needing it. We should put our heads together one of these days and come up with a plan. Hopefully over the next year things will become more clear. |

Date Posted: 12:57:46 12/13/12 Thu so the backup plan to waters is this kid tyler ferguson from cali (http://goo.gl/MHhMG). he's the #2 juco qb behind god-boy. well, the story here is quite interesting (especially the last hour or so). psu hadn't offered him because we were waiting for waters to decide and didn't have the scholarship to offer. we had been in close contact with ferguson, but the kid was looking into his future so he had made trips/visits to other schools (as he should). welp, right after the waters announcement, it started to leak that ferguson had committed to houston. huge kick in the balls.... UNTIL... via 24/7 (sean fitz) - http://goo.gl/GOktw OK... so. Here we go. Justin Hopkins was contacted by Tyler Ferguson's coach this morning to tell him that Ferguson had committed to Houston. Hopkins reported the commitment, and all was good. Ten minutes later, the coach called him back asking him not to report on it (he obviously did not know that it had already been reported), because 'Penn State may be offering.' That's the latest I have on that, Penn State may be making some calls as we speak regarding Ferguson. We're monitoring the situation. From what I understand, if Penn State offers, he'll be a Nittany Lion. 12:14 p.m. Update: Sources indicate that Penn State is trying to get him to campus this weekend for an official visit. 12:31 p.m. update: Penn State has offered Tyler Ferguson. more on ferguson below (again via 24/7) The 6-foot-5, 205-pound Ferguson broke a number of school records this season, passing for 2,650 and 26 touchdowns, while completing 60 percent of his passes. His squad, however, didn't fare as well. "As a team, it was kind of a tale of two seasons," he said. "We started off 4-0 and really looked unbeatable, on our defense we have five guys going D1, and on offense we were putting up 60-70 points a game. In week five, we lost in the last second and we just went downhill from there and lost the last six." Coming out of Ridgeview High School in Bakersfield, Ferguson split time as a starter his junior year and then missed more than half of his senior season. He was, however, selected to play in the Cal-State All-Star Game in December. "I broke my collar bone my senior year and had surgery, that just scared off everybody," he said. "That's understandable, nobody wants a quarterback coming off of shoulder surgery. Now I'm back stronger than I was before it was even broke, so it all worked out in the end." Ferguson will have four years to play three starting in January. |

There is a little village that springs up in Love Park each year with mulled wine, stores, etc. It sounds like nothing compared to the real thing. Anyway, Heaves, if things pick up and if you need some help from outside counsel, please do not hesitate to ask. I am really enjoying the show Arrow. It is fucking awesome. I went to a Welcoming Baby class last night. I have been out past 11 each night this week. I am incredibly tired. Last night, our bowling team (McHale, Me, Poyser, Mrs. Poyser) won 4 games. Date Posted: 08:28:40 12/13/12 Thu Juco QB Jake Waters will make his decision today. Come to PSU, I say! The google map app was finally released into the wild yesterday for the iPhone. It is superb. Get it. Kate has been bored with her job lately. She's sick of it. So I told her to call in sick today...and she did! Being sick of work seemed to be a legit illness. Instead, she went out shopping at the Christmas markets. They are scattered all over the city in various town squares. They include outdoors gift shops, typical fair-type food, and Gluhwein (mulled wine) that is perfect for making a hangover. The sun finally decided to show itself the last two days. We are still in sub-32 degree weather but the snow has finally stopped falling. I think it snowed off/on for 3 days but we were only left with about 7-8 inches of snow. Things have been really slow at work. They definitely wind things down in December. I'm just trying to muddle my way through the next 3 working days and then hit the ground running in the new year. This will be my first vacation since forever that I won't have to even think about work. Can't wait! I was invited to go duck hunting with Kate's uncle and the 3 in-law sons while we are in Louisiana. Me and my 12 gauge are going to be taking down some ducks! |

The bar was packed with people that had run in the marathon. He knew people that ran the race and he went to the brew pub to meet up with them. They had a private room set up upstairs. Sam got a beer when he walked in and I happened to be sitting at the bar (at that end of the bar). We talked for about 5 minutes and had 1/2 of a beer together. Oddly enough no one really recognized him. I guess they dont want to bother him because he is there a lot or the out of town runners dont really know DFH. Because it was just me, Ali was out shopping, I was unable to get a picture with him. I stink. |

Date Posted: 10:55:47 12/10/12 Mon Hello, boys. I had a nice little weekend that involved way too much Christmas shopping. Thankfully, we are nearly done. Friday night I had a few beers at happy hour and Ali went shopping after work. We watched the Sixers beat the Celtics and then crashed early because we had a big Saturday on tap. Saturday, I moved some items back to my parents' house. This included a carpet and 5 boxes of comic books. Then, I headed back to town, picked up Ali, and hit the outlet stores in Rehobeth Beach. As a reward for my shopping, Ali dropped me off at DFH and I had 2 hours to work through their tap list. We go home really late but I managed to watch the Bo documentary, UFC on Fox (DVR), and then watched the Pac Man fight. I did not get to bed early. Sunday involved some work, visiting my grandmother, and grabbing dinner with Tommy. Back to the grind this week. |

Date Posted: 08:53:57 12/10/12 Mon joo, congrats to you and the new lady joo to be. hopefully your wedding will be very much unlike the last jewish wedding i went to which fell a few days after the big summer storm/power outtage. needless to say, they didn't have any power, it was easily 100 degrees inside and there were 300-400 people there. it was not fun. fun fact though, their cheese plate was essentially a huge lake of molten liquid fat. DELICIOUS! nice little weekend that involved mouse murder. for the last week or so, we heard a scratching/squeaking sound coming from the wall in our bedroom. the orkin dudes who came out didn't see anything and said that, until they saw smoe evidence of a problem they wouldn't do anything. this was not good enough for me so i took matters into my own hands. i went out and bought some traps (fun fact: the wooden traps of old have been replaced by plastic death traps with huge jutting teeth. it doesn't just kill the mouse it super murders it) and placed them in the space above where we keep oreo's food. well, fast forward to yesterday morning and, when letting oreo out, i went in to get her some food and noticed that the trap had fallen from up on the board, landing upside down in the corner. PWNED!!! sure enough, i flipped the trap over and there he was, his head split in half by 2 of the teeth, peanut butter still stuck to his whiskers. enjoy your life in hell, bastard. in other news, caruso's mom is in town so she's watching hanna. yesterday, we had an early christmas with that side of the family. we ate lots of turkey and watched lots of football. good times. lastly, psu had a great recruiting weekend (picked up 4 guys - summary from 24/7 below). today, BoB meets with jake waters, the best juco qb in the country (just won the national championship). he's deciding between us and k-state (also has interest from bama and a few other big name schools). hopefully, bob can get him to pull the trigger today. landing him would allow hackenburg to redshirt and add a really talented qb to the program. he'd enroll in january (with 4 other dudes) and not count against the 15 scholarship ceiling. Penn State's first big official visit weekend ended with a bang on Sunday night, as news got out that the Nittany Lions landed a commitment from Stafford (Va.) Mountain View wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton. Hamilton was on campus over the weekend for an official visit. Sources confirmed the news to Lions247 on Sunday. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect was the Commonwealth District offensive player of the year in 2012, as he caught 67 balls for 1,068 yards and 11 touchdowns before breaking a collarbone in November. Hamilton also added 19 carries for 158 yards and six touchdowns and added a punt return touchdown. Defensively, he recorded 64 tackles and three interceptions for 8-6 Wildcats. Hamilton joins cornerback Anthony Smith and linebackers Jonathan Walton and Zayd Issah in committing to the Nittany Lions on Sunday. In addition to Penn State, Hamilton had scholarship offers from Boston College, Duke, Illinois, Maryland, Miami, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia and more. A three-star prospect by 247Sports, Hamilton carries an 89 overall rating. He is the No. 44 wide receiver nationally and the No. 18 prospect in Virginia. He was recruited for the Nittany Lions by assistant coach Charles London. |

Date Posted: 08:01:02 12/10/12 Mon Well, I certainly had a great weekend. For those on the board that may not have seen my twitter or Facebook page, I got engaged over the weekend. We spent the weekend in NYC and had a blast. I am assuming I did the right thing, because she cried when I asked her and she picked out the exact ring she wanted (She told me that anything involving her not having the final say would have been nothing short of a complete disaster). Needless to say, she was extremely happy with how it all played out and we are both excited for the future. Our tentative date is next April (2014). The highlight of the weekend was her telling every bartender that she had just gotten engaged. I think I paid all of $10 the entire night. I think we might do this more often, as long as it isn't the same bars. I also plan on going to Vanguard and opening a Roth IRA. My plan is to do the following every year: - Pay double my mortgage and put it towards principal twice a year. - Put the rest of the $500-$600 I'll make every month on renting my house (when I move into NJ) into my Roth IRA. - Max my 401k. - Continue my illegal sex slave trade so that I can still afford coffee every month. Coffee is the codeword for expensive 13 year male prostitutes (I don't want to bang an STD-ridden asshole, right?) Remember, folks, the cheaper the twink, the dirtier the stink. I don't even know why I put that last one in there. What the hell did these assholes at Starbucks put into my coffee? |

I haven't received any texts on this new phone (and I know people have sent me a couple) and I don't think anyone has received any of the couple texts that I have sent (we tried a test text tonight while at dinner and it failed on both ends). Does anyone know if there is a way to troubleshoot this issue without wasting my time dealing with customer service? |

Date Posted: 09:57:10 12/07/12 Fri You don't have to do all 5k all at once. You can spread it out over the year (for those that don't have 5k just lying around). Similar to your 401K...you have all year to put in 16500 or 17000 or whatever it is now. You can do this evenly per paycheck for the 401K, or technically with your last few paychecks, which would be plain stupid. Obviously for you it's about getting admiral status as quickly as possible and that makes sense. In sum, I'm going home now to start my wochenende. |

In fact, the expect more declines as a result of panic selling, so I would actually hold off till after the decline, as the drop is anticipated to be around 20%. It has NOTHING to do with them moving into the US with manufacturing of an already existing product line. I am not sure where you got that idea, Tony. I can name plenty of companies that save money and do well by manufacturing here than overseas, so I hope that wasn't your argument. |

When do you think they will make back the 40 or so points they have lost this week due to announcing bringing manufacturing back to the US? Also keep in mind that holiday sales are already factored in to their quarterly earnings and, thus, their market price. Also factor in that their continued dividends will ultimately lower the price of the stock since it's overpriced for a blue chip. Hopefully you have some insider news that you will tell me about via a phone call so I can buy all in on AAPL. |

It's been snowing with mostly light snow or flurries off and on for the last week. I prefer this light stuff over rain though, so at least there's that. Kate and I finally joined my work gym a few weeks ago. We get up early in the morning, bike about 4 miles to my office, work out for 35-45 minutes, and I go to work while Kate rides back to our apartment. Surprisingly, biking in 25 degree weather isn't as bad as I thought it would be. You warm up fairly quick while pedaling. The worst part by far is forcing ourselves to get up at 6:30. This is dumb. Date Posted: 05:19:02 12/05/12 Wed It's been fun sitting back watching all this investment chatter. But it's time to join the fray. I recently had to move things around as well. Firstly, I no longer work for a company that provides a 401K plan (balls!) and Kate is not eligible for a year after her start date. I had my financial planner (2003 PSU grad!!) roll my old 401K into a traditional IRA. The Roth IRA was tempting but (1) I would have needed to pay about $45,000 upfront in taxes to make that happen and (2) I was advised it's not necessary. I am also in the process of moving about half of our savings into a moderately conservative investment account for the time I am here in Europe. I hope I can get a better return than the 1% APY I was getting in my online savings account during this time, even with the investment fees (projected at 4-5% APY after fees). Fingers crossed!! Lastly, I opened up a Vanguard Target Retirement Fund (traditional IRA VTIVX) for both Kate and myself that starts uber aggressive and adjusts over time. I have not switched to a Roth IRA yet. My taxable income should be smaller next year since I took a hit to come to Europe, and I'm hoping I'll be in a lower tax bracket (if tax rates don't go up). We will put in 5K each per year since we have no other means right now to save for retirement other than what I am mandatorily putting in to my German social security. One question about rolling over to a Vanguard Roth account: I obviously funded my Vanguard traditional IRA with post-tax dollars from my savings account. So my question is, do I have to pay taxes on this money again when I roll from traditional to Roth? I can understand paying upfront taxes when rolling from a 401K to a Roth because the 401K is funded with pre-tax dollars. How does this work? Back to German social security thing. There's a little bit a incentive to leave Germany before 5 years depending on your preference. I am currently required to put aside 500 euro a month into this program, or 6,000 a year. During this time, I am not required to put into the US system. If I leave withing 5 years, and stay away (not residing in) for 2 years thereafter, I get all them monies back! I would not have to pay taxes or pay back the US in any way on this money. If I stay longer than 5 years, then I will get a check from Germany when I retire/come of age, regardless of where I live. So it's a question of whether I want my money back sooner (yes) or later (meh). Alles klar in Germany, sort of. Kate is starting to hate her job because the company is run very poorly and she is not in a position to do anything about it. They just can't seem to get their shit together. Kate has a list of discussion items for her boss. We'll see how that goes. Plus, being alone all day in the apartment is starting to get to her. We are starting to think about getting her a job here in Germany but this will be tough to do. My job is just ok. Some days are good, and others I wish I was learning more. I'm hoping that the new projects rolling in at the start of the new year will bring in a little more excitement. I am getting assigned project lead on two licensing campaigns and with that comes more responsibility. This could lead to some trips to the US later next year. We are very much ready for our trip in 2 weeks and the time cannot fly by fast enough. Lukey, we are definitely on for the 20th. Hafer, I wish we could change our flights for the 15th but it's $360 per ticket + the price difference. You should go to Allentown on the 20th instead. Doooo it! We are anti-decorating this year. One, we left all our decorations back in PA. And secondly, we won't even be here. I've completed nearly all my xmas shopping, and 90% of it has been done through Amazon. What happened with those UVA and GT to B1G rumors? They seemed to have fizzled out. Any more noise on that from within the states? Last I saw was GT denying the reports. Vic - much appreciated for the movie recommendations. Your inclusion of me as a romcom fanboy made me laugh. They'll be added to my download list for when I'm in the US. |

Date Posted: 23:06:31 12/04/12 Tue Roth IRA: I am using Vanguard to do that as well. I opened up an IRA account for myself and Ali. I am funding both 100% with the VTSMX for $5k. This has a low expense ratio and when I dump in another $5k in each next year, we will qualify for Admiral funds with an even lower expense ratio. Hafer, open your shit up with Vanguard. It is really simple to do. It did not even take a phone call to wrap up everything. As for the 529, I picked the Vanguard Nevada plan because I was not going to get any tax breaks using the PA plan. The Nevada plan has an expense ratio of .25% (which is the lowest of any plan I could use). I did not want to go the prepaid route because I do not expect college tuition rates to continue to increase at 5-6% a year without that bubble bursting. I am using the Vanguard aggressive growth portfolio option. These target plans will change allocations as the child approaches college age and will automatically become more conservative. I want to be as aggressive as possible with these plans in the hopes of actually making an ok return on my investment -- if things don't work out that way, I will deal with things then. |

Date Posted: 17:24:53 12/04/12 Tue Evan, I recommend diversifying your 401k contributions between Roth and Traditional. My financial planner said that anything above what your company matches should be worth considering going into a Roth. So in your case your additional 5%. These are for the reasons Joe quoted regarding expected retirement level income taxes. Regarding your investor, see what their fees are compared to some of the funds available in your 401k. Joe, what are you using for your Roth IRA? Also why did you pick Nevada for the 529? I have PA because the contributions are deductible from my PA income tax. It's not a lot but it's something. Also what type of investment did you get? Prepaid or savings? My kids' plans are prepaid indexed by state schools. |

Date Posted: 15:15:46 12/04/12 Tue My company also offers both types of 401ks. I just contribute to the normal 401k and do not use the roth 401k. When making your decision factor in this ... "If you expect your tax rate to be the same or higher in retirement than it is now, you might be better off with a Roth 401(k). This is likely to be the case with young people who are just starting their careers and expect their income to increase in the future. "For folks who are in the 15% or 25% tax bracket, it may not be a bad idea to pay those taxes now and never have to worry about what tax brackets might become in the future," says Kitces. If you're in your peak earning years, on the other hand, and you figure your tax bracket will be lower in retirement, you'll benefit from continuing with traditional 401(k) contributions." Date Posted: 11:14:30 12/04/12 Tue All 401k contributions are pre-tax. This is a tax advantaged investing vehicle. Personally, I would max out your 401k before investigating any of the other retirement options. Once you are contributing $17,000 a year to your 401k, you can start looking at a traditional IRA or Roth IRA (http://www.rothira.com/traditional-ira-vs-roth-ira). I cannot open up a Roth IRA in a traditional manner due to the income limitations associated with the account. Instead, I opened up a traditional IRA for me and the Mrs. this year and then converted them into Roth IRAs (backdoor IRAs). I prefer the features associated with Roth IRAs more than traditional IRAs. I also opened up a 529 plan (Nevada plan)for the baby G-unit. I am also doing this with Vanguard along with my IRAs and taxable investments. |

Date Posted: 11:37:14 12/03/12 Mon Friday night after work I made the trek down to Northwood, Iowa for some poker action. When I arrived the usual crew was there along with this older Asian woman wearing tons of jewelry who I heard was on the 2/5 list. I added my name and about 30 min. later was in the game. Unfortunately the toughest guy in the game and my poker nemesis was seated to my left. The max buy-in is $1000 but 75% of the table usually buys in for $400 - 600. I ended up buying in for $600 as I had made a few bucks at the 1/2 game while I was waiting. The game went strong until the wee hours of the morning and was mostly funded by the Asian lady who bought in TWELVE times for $500 each time. Her stack would rise and fall very quickly. At one point she had $2500 and then she was rebuying minutes later. This went on pretty much all night. I wasn't able to get into any real big hands with her, but managed to chip away at her and some other people. (Side note: At this point in the game, UTG had a mandatory straddle of $10 and people were opening to $50 - 70). At 5 AM I had a stack of about $1800 but lost $1200 when I flopped a set of 8's against a guy with a set of 9's on an 8c9c3h board. By 8:30 AM the game broke and I netted a $5 win. BALLER! The big winner of the night was the 9 seat who basically got in some killer situations with the older Asian lady. He ended up cashing out $7200 which is insane considering it was the same 9 people playing and one lady was basically funding the entire game. When I left I stopped by one of the bathrooms and on my way out she was buying a 20 stack of black chips at the Super Fun 21 table. |

Date Posted: 23:10:02 12/02/12 Sun Hey guys. Checking in after being a douchey non-participant all week. Personal Life - All is well. William was sick this weekend so it was like having 2 infants around at all times which is as awful as it sounds. Amy and I are very pumped to get the bug that he currently has and we're really hoping it happens this weekend at Amy's Christmas party of next weekend at mine. Goodie! - Decorated for Christmas this weekend which was a blast. William still doesn't "get it" but he gets it enough to make it fun. He's really enjoying findin the "Elf on the Shelf" everyday. Lewis is obviously still in the "doesn't know shit" phase so he could care less. He's a super easy baby, though, so we've got that going for us. - I hurt my back the Monday night before Thanksgiving and HOLY SHIT THAT WAS AWFUL. I was nearly immobile for 2 days which was only good because I didn't have to do anything on Thanksgiving other that sit on a chair with a heating pad and ask for more beer/wine. I am finally feeling 95% in the back area and look forward to getting back to working out this week. Work Life - Work is stil pretty awesome. It's very refreshing to be getting paid to constantly learn new stuff. I'm taking classes over lunch, getting involved in projects that I know nothing about and really coming into my own. I don't have a formal performance review until next year, but I do have a 90-day one coming up. I got a pre-review from my Project Manager and he said everyone is really glad they brought me on. Not as glad as I am, though. - To answer Hafer's question from a million years ago, the MPLS networks for the electric power companies that I am working on aren't being built to carry any power transmission or distribution. They essentially just carry communications traffic to and from stations to monitor breaks. lines, relays, etc. to isolate problems so that blackouts don't happen. So, ugly transmission lines aren't going anywhere soon. - My latest project, that I haven't officially started yet is a big WiMax project. I am hoping it's cool but I Cannot know for sure considering I know zero about WiMax. More learning! - Being new this late in the year sucks. I am eligible for bonus but only at 25% of what I'd normally get. Also, no vacation for the 1st 90 days so I'm only going to get 2 holiday days off and 1 floating holiday off towards the end of the year. Also, b/c I didn't bill >1K hours, I don't get any stock this year. Still better than what I had, but I figured I better complain about something. Random - Duke has beat some formidable opponents this year. But fuck Duke. - Really, really proud of the PEnn State football team this year. That was an usually fun team to watch. I cannot believe I am as big of a McGloin fan as I am now. - Fuck David Stern and the $250K fine for the Spurs. That was the most dictatorial thing ever. Can't wait for that guys to retire. - The nanny is working out very well. Other than it being 1000000x more convenient, William is really thriving and is learning a lot (which was our biggest concern). - Evan drunk-tweeting has been a sight to behold recently. Keep it coming. - One of my buddies here in KC got me hooked on a really dumb app called "The Chive". I have no doubt that (a) this is not new and (b) I am out of the loop, but man, that is a solid time killer when pooping. The gals who post on there are so slutty, amateur and cannot get enough of taking half-naked pics of themselves. It's worth a look. - I have seen no movies in a while other than 1 hour of Magic Mike. And that was over like 4 days. I am really enjoying it (Channing Tatum, again making me like him!) but just am failing big time and actually taking the time to watch it. - I have not seen 1 episode of Boardwalk Empire or The Walking Dead this season. I plan to watch both at some point and am glad to hear Boardwalk is back after a subpar second season. I have been watching Homeland and cannot decide if I like the 24-ness of it or not. Amy watches Dexter and, my god that show sucks. |

He is 1000x better than that assmuncher rivers. Obviously Quinn Cook developing into a legit point guard is key as well. Also, now that Plumlee has, over one offseason, gone from a terrible to not just ok but good free throw shooter, he is able to play much more aggressively on the offensive end. I wouldnt be surprised if hes in the running for POY by the end of the year. As much as yall hate duke you gotta admit what they have accomplished thus far is pretty damn impressive. The season finale coming up on Sunday should be incredible. There is a lot to tie up ... I don't know how they are going to be able to do it in one hour. |

Date Posted: 09:37:30 11/28/12 Wed heaves, i agree with you that stuffing is #1 seed. i LOVE stuffing when it's made right, aka the way my gma used to make it. stove top makes me want to murder a nun helping a hurt puppy who is licking a little baby who is wearing all psu gear. just thinking about it makes me grr. heaves2: you should move up your visit to the states. caruso, spawn, and i will be visiting philly saturday 12/15 for the day/night. i think we are going to head up to tony's place and then possibly head into the city for the night. still up in the air on that, but we'll def be coming to the greater philly area. joe, i assume i am welcome at v&k's 25th anniversary party... lukey, are you interested at all in rooting your phone (the biggest reason to do so is to install ad blocking apps)? if so, this is how you do it - http://goo.gl/sNvjY |

Date Posted: 09:21:55 11/28/12 Wed You forget, Germans are barbarians at the core. They can't help themselves. In the red light district here in Munich, they parade sheep around like they are mere pieces of meat. "Make it go 'Bahhhhhh!'" is a popular saying in German culture. (No not really). Things are swell here but I am very much ready for a visit to the States. 3 weeks!! My boss is out for the next 6 business days and I have nothing to do but study my German. Oooga! Last Saturday I was a little piggy. No, I'm not talking about bestiality. I'm talking about Thanksgiving in Germany. We went to a pot luck dinner and I gorged until I was physically unable to eat anymore. I switched to wine so there was more room in my stomach for turkey, and more importantly, stuffing (still the #1 seed, Jono!!). Lukey, the best time to do some boozing will probably be the 20th or 21st. I'll check with my family. I think either will work, but the 20th might be best. The 19th I may be too tired from the flight that I'd rather not chance being a poopy pants. As for your phone, I can add as many email (gmail) accounts as I want. I'd expect you to be able to do the same. You should be able to create a separate contact list too. It could be possible to turn off syncing to your gmail address book and then delete the contacts you don't want, or create a separate one. I'm not sure since it depends on your (non-i)phone. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that your alarm clock won't work if your phone is off. Sometimes technology takes a step back. |

Date Posted: 09:17:25 11/28/12 Wed yup, we'll be at the CdB on saturday. we can set things up thing. to your questions: Q1: Can you set your alarm so it goes off even when the phone is powered off? A1: no. once you power down you're powered down. simple solution is to just put your phone in airplane mode before bed. this will save battery, prevent you from getting any kind of notification while you sleep, and allow you to use your alarm. Q2: Can you set a phone contact list that is separate from my gmail address book? A2: yes. there is an option to remove people who don't have a phone number from your phone contact list. this should get you started on slimming down your list. we can tweak more on saturday. http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57481677-285/tips-for-deduping-android-contacts/ speaking of phones, i bought the nexus 4 and hope to get it paid for by my company for use as my "work" phone. we'll see how that goes. i hope to use t-mobile's network but have never had an experience using it. i hear it's good in the area. can anyone confirm? |

Date Posted: 21:52:58 11/27/12 Tue Hafer, are you still planning on heading to the casa de Butts this weekend? If so, I may leave some most of this phone setup stuff until then. Two quick questions before the full setup: Can you set your alarm so it goes off even when the phone is powered off (my old phone did)? It didn't go off this morning and then I tested it. Can you set a phone contact list that is separate from my gmail address book? I never plan on calling (nor do I even have the numbers) of most of the people in my gmail address book. Vert, I got the badass blue phone rather than the effeminate, Apple-wannabe white or the menstrual blood red. Also, I plan on heading to Atown on 12/19 or so depending on Heaves' availability. I am then heading up to upstate NY with my Aunt/Uncle/cousins until Christmas Eve. What days will you be in town? |

Date Posted: 15:54:50 11/27/12 Tue Those silly Germans. They need to grow out of this phase in college like the rest of the world. How is everyone doing? Golf in South Carolina was decent. I played really well with a set of rental clubs. I was using one of the newer Taylor Made RBZ drivers. It was a very nice club and I drove the hell out of the ball all morning. All this talk of poker makes me miss online poker. We are going on 18 months without it. |

Date Posted: 14:28:24 11/27/12 Tue this sounds exciting... from the sun 'Germany is poised to reinstate an old law banning sex with animals after a sharp rise in incidents of bestiality - and even the pimping of farm animals. The country's parliament is due to debate changes to the national Animal Protection Code this week, with the agricultural committee of the Bundestag pledging fines of £20,000 for a first offence. Bestiality dropped off the statute books as a crime in 1969 but in recent years incidents of it have mushroomed along with websites promoting it. 'There are even "erotic zoos" for perverts to visit and abuse animals ranging from llamas to goats. Hans-Michael Goldmann, chairman of the agriculture committee, said the government aimed to forbid using an animal "for individual sexual acts and to outlaw people 'pimping' creatures to others for sexual use". But pro-zoophilia campaign group ZETA - Zoophiles Commitment to Tolerance and Enlightenment - vowed to challenge any ban on bestiality. Chairman Michael Kiok said: "Mere concepts of morality have no business being law" |

Date Posted: 13:56:33 11/26/12 Mon Monday - Wednesday wasn't very crowded. The people that were there were mostly smelly Euros and quite a few Aussies. Thursday and Friday were much more crowded with the usual weekend warriors. I was surprised at the amount of families wiht younger kids waiting to eat Thanksgiving dinner. I walked down to Aria on Tuesday and stopped at Fat Burger on the way. They remodeled the inside of Fat Burger and also put a full bar and tables outside. It's pretty impressive and actually a legit spot now. I was very impressed with Aria and most everything about it. The entire complex is rather baller. |

Date Posted: 13:03:37 11/26/12 Mon Solid work on the phone. Over the holidays we can make our phones have sex with each other, thusly sharing our digital data. Did you get the cool white one or gay pebble blue? Also, I bought the case that's been advertised a bunch lately. It replaces the back cover and then has a flap that goes around the front. I kinda like that it doesn't make the phone all bulky while still offering some protection to the screen. Speaking of the holidays, when will you be in Atown? I returned from my solo Vegas trip on Saturday morning. I failed to check the weather and arrived at MSP wearing shorts and a tshirt. It was 12 degrees outside. The trip overall went quick and I didn't do much else other than play poker. On Thursday I tried the Caesars buffet which has a line of 500+ people. I settled on the Venetian instead which was delicious. |

Date Posted: 12:27:43 11/26/12 Mon this pretty much sums up my weekend - http://goo.gl/fQHNV LUKEY!!! caruso will be so happy to hear you got a new phone. she had felt awful about abandoning you in the land of the flip phone, but no longer. if you have any questions about setting it up, rooting (not necessary but ads some neat features), etc let me know. so last week hanna came down with a fun cold that she brought back with her from florida (no surprise there, it's a dirty, miserable state). whenever she gets sick it's only a matter of time before she passes it along so caruso and i are now both sick. it's one of those sinus/cough deals, no sore throat symptoms. i've been taking the big muconex (sp) pills but they don't do squat. hooray. turkey day went well. sniffy and chewie came down with henry who is now running all over the place. we ate a ton and watched psu somehow beat bucknell in bb. the bison played like poop and my mom was super annoyed. she stayed home and watched henry while the rest of them went up to psu on saturday. caruso and i came back home to chill. |

Date Posted: 02:31:39 11/26/12 Mon I hope that everyone had a nice Thanksgiving holiday. I was an absolute glutton (I have been averaging >2 pieces of pie/dessert per day since last Tuesday). I have a feeling that I will be riding the struggle bus at basketball this week. Well, due to the ridiculous sales over Thanksgiving time, I have reluctantly upgraded to the Galaxy SIII (still not super enthused about the move - I've had the phones since Friday and haven't activated it yet). I am going to work on getting it optimally set up on Monday. Expect a bunch of n00b questions for the next couple days. Any advice would be appreciated. |
