If you don't mind the couch/airbed, it shan't be a problem at Casa de Gushue. You could easily take a cab/train from the airport to my place (or I can pick you up from the airport depending on what time you get in). I live in the same apartment building you visited last time.

I read Ready Player One (http://www.amazon.com/Ready-Player-One-A-Novel/dp/0307887448/ref=pd_sim_sbs_b_1) over the weekend and really enjoyed it. It made for a great (easy) summer read. It is super nerdy - the story is centered upon 80's videogames, movies, and music. The book has already been optioned for a movie but, to me, it seems like it would be a difficult story to turn into a movie.

Also, I saw an interview today and I heard that now that they passed the long putter ban, the USGA is now going to focus on slow play, including stressing its focus on local clubs. This a great development. Slow play penalties were stepped up at the college championships this year. I think we'll see enhanced enforcement at the majors, but I don't expect anything to change on the PGA Tour (as we've seen to their opposition to the long putter ban). The Tour is run by its members, so they will probably continue just fining the players at regular tour stops. At the very least, I hope that they would make these fines public like other leagues.

what tony has is what i have. it's a safe.

tony, on my first day of law school the professor of my criminal law class, this tiny little italian dude with slicked-back hair, walked into the classroom dressed in his usual 3 piece suit and briefcase, put his things down in front of the room, proceeded to stare at all of us, not saying a word, for about 30 seconds and then said, "if you remember only one thing from this class let it be that, in the commonwealth of pennsylvania, 16 means yes." dude was a huge perv and his opening statement pretty much drove that point home.

Last year I think we were in the 75-85 range. You don't want it getting too hot here because air conditioning doesn't exist/hasn't been invented, which can at the very least make sleeping uncomfortable.

On the soccer front, no one in Germany cares. They are still drunk from last week.

Tony, Revolution is terrible. However, like you, I haven't been able to stop watching. I think Charlie needs to die and be replaced with a more attractive/better/less annoying actress. I've always had a soft side for the actress that plays Nora (and a hard side! Boom!). I can't say that I'm "sucked in"...I'm just hopelessly hopeful it will get better. It won't. I doubt I'll watch it next season.

Two shows I was able to drop since xmas are Arrow and Smash.

Vert, safe-wise, I have something similar to Tony for the same reasons.

Heaves, you know what American comedy the Germans probably like? That own goal they gave up in the soccer match. Fantastic. Note- I didn't watch the game. Also, I was disappointed by Star Trek. A very safe movie with a very predictable ending. I also felt like they rushed through the plot development a little too quick.

Saturday was spent getting the house ready for a play date party Jen set up with her friends on Sunday. I spent all morning on the swingset. I'm proud to say that it is ready for use, the only thing missing is the roof which we don't need to play with it. All in all I'm guessing I spent around 24 hours on the thing. Except for a couple hours that my Dad helped, I did the whole thing myself. I think that 2 guys could definitely bang it out in a weekend or a long day. Sunday morning was spent with 3 infants and 3 toddlers at the house playing outside.

Highlight of the weekend was GoT last night. The Red Wedding did not disappoint. I had no spoiler knowledge going in so I was thoroughly pleased. Not looking forward to season finale next week and then waiting for more episodes.

Last week Jen and I caught up on Revolution. I have no idea why I watch this show. It drives me nuts to see what society has done for 15 years without electricity. Now they've totally sucked me in with the Tower. This show is worse than Lost.

i survived the weekend.

hanna cooperated well and the weekend went by very smoothly. my rents came down on saturday afternoon for a very quick visit (they left sunday morning at 8). vic, lukey and lux2 came up (vic walked in and asked where caruso was - i told her way to not read the board and that she was at a bachelorette party - lux2 said, "that sucks, i didn't have to come") for some tubed-meat consumption. we also grilled out (see what i did there).

joo, only $200m? i guess that's alright. on a serious note, when you say replace the hvac, you mean just the units right? is there any efficient way to replace the ducts in a constructed house? do you know whether sealing air ducts works at all/is worth it? our ducts are pretty shit so i'm considering various options when our units craps out (2 units for 2 zones, sealing the ducts, etc).

heaves, how hot is it usually in germany in june? did you taunt your co-workers this morning after the usmnt vs germany match (us won 4-3... somehow... against their c/d/e team). we are clearly going to win the world cup...

I wish I knew. I saw it out of the corner of my eye and then by the time I turned around he was already on the ground being kicked. Then it was over. It was more like a double-take/did that really happen moment. I was more surprised that it was 6 v 1 and he seemingly had no back-up.

(Jono: "plop plop kaplunk")

I complain about the weather (a lot) but the sun really hasn't popped out and said hello since last Tuesday. It's 45 degrees and miserable. In June. We suffer through the winters to get the perfect summer weather (sunny, no humidity and highs in the upper 70's). So far, we've seen little reward.

(Jono: "plop plop kaplunk")

This weekend we went to see the new Star Trek. In preparation for Kate we watched the first one of the reboot on Friday night. Kate seemed to like both. So much so that I felt inspired to start watching Battlestar Galactica that I've been meaning to crack into. Love it! And so does Kate! Man, some of the women on that show make my brain explode.

Another good series that we just finished is The Killing. It's an AMC production. It's 2 seasons of solving 1 murder death kill. I much prefer this style over a new murder every week a la NYPD Blue. I thought it was very well done and kept us guessing.

We are going to go see Hangover 3 with some of my German coworkers tonight. I expect more of the same from the last two. Germans LOVE American humor, especially the humor in these types of movies. It'll probably be funnier watching the Germans react than the movie itself.

I am starting to get the pre-father gitters. Just really excited and anxious. Everything is great. Average head size, longer than average femur, lower than average weight. Ergonomically designed for launch. We will have the baby's room complete this coming weekend and we will probably start packing our bags. We go to the maternity ward at the hospital next week for the first time. Seeing the ward and meeting some of the staff/doctors will be nice. We will also have a midwife to help out after the birth.

I'm going to by us some kettlebells afterall. I found some on Amazon that has free shipping. It'll be nice to have something at the apartment for exercise when we can't exactly get away to the gym.

That, of course, is a Buster Bluth quote. Although it took about 4-5 episodes to actually cash in on the jokes it was setting up (and thus being pretty rough to watch at first), the new season of Arrested Development is pretty good. We have 3 episodes left and we're probably more excited to re-watch it all over again than anything.

Anyway, what's up guys?! While I continue to be a shitty board participant, I am following along daily (I read about you guys on my phone while I poop!). I'm glad everyone is going swell.

Random stuff/thoughts to follow:
- Heaves, was the beat down you witnessed soccer hooligan related? Or just drunk people related?

- Evan, that sounds like a lot of work! Good luck. How many rental properties do you own now? You're like a mini Donald Trump but without the bad hair and political nonsense.

- Tony, that swingset thing seems like a huge pain in the ass. On the other hand, it would actually be a pretty nice getaway for a fee hours each night that is a legitimate excuse to be alone with headphones on with no child rearing responsibilities. But it is looking great. You'll have to let me know if it was worth it. That's likely our next big kids purchase.

- Is there anyone willing to let me crash at their place Friday night before Evan's BP? I'm trying to plan where to fly into but first need a place to lay my big head. Ideally, I'd like to be able to get from the airport to (insert name here) place on my own (i.e., without needed to be picked up, etc.) but I'm open to all ideas. Shoot me an email if you can possibly hook me up.

- Flew back to PA for a whirlwind few days for my grandma's funeral (my dad's side; last living g'parent) about 3 weeks ago. She had Alzheimer's for a while, took a turn for the worse, and it went downhill fast. Saw a lot of relatives I hadn't seen for a while and the boys got to stay back and hang with Amy's parents so it wasn't the worst of circumstances, but it's still a shitty thing. It was certainly weird to travel without kids, though. Insanely more relaxing.

- The boys are wonderful, FYI. Lewis is crawling and pulling up on everything now which makes Will's life a little sucky-er (his toys are now able to be stolen). And Will is very surprising in the stuff he remembers (like shit we say that we don't realize he's listening to). It's nothing bad or swear-y, but it's good for a laugh once a day. He's obsessed with Thomas the Train so we're going to see a real Thomas-dressed/designed train next weekend. I'm probably more excited to see his reaction than he will be to see Thomas "in real life". We're also going to his first Royals game next Sunday. Should be a good weekend.

- Amy & I are fine. Nothing interesting to report. Both of our jobs are awesome and we're in a really good place.

- My family is all meeting up at Lake Michigan in a few weeks. This is only important b/c we're all driving. Therefore, I want my family to bring me beers that I cannot get out here in KC. I'm looking for 5-6 cases. Can you guys give me some recommendations of shit I should be drinking? Price doesn't really matter.

- Lastly, my buddy Kelly recently bought a locker at a cigar shop. He has stocked it full of scotch and bourbon and I met him there last night to sit in leather chairs, watch bball/hockey at the same time, smoke cigars and drink bourbon. It really is a solid getaway. I'm glad he did this.

Things have been insane; I am moving into a new house in NJ with my fiance, I am in the process of putting up my house in PA for rent, and am now planning major renovations to the house I moving into:
- Finish Basement
- Remodel all baths
- Remodel kitchen
- Replace HVAC and Windows

The plan is to keep it for 5 years or so and then build something farther up North (as my territory is expanding) and rent this property as well.

In work news, there was a board meeting held in at our newest acquisition in NY a few weeks ago, and one of the Vice Presidents of the company (who runs HVAC for the entire country), praised me multiple times. Apparently, the plan is to have me create and run a separate department for HVAC, based on the plan I proposed about a month ago (that I told you guys about with that Big meeting with my GM) and then duplicate that in NY and invariably run both. In short, there is a very strong possibility that I could be running a department that does about $200mm in sales, but who knows.

Sorry I will not be at the bachelor party, Vic; I have no doubt it will be a fantastic time with many a windmill achting.

I was looking at a smaller/simple model (http://www.walmart.com/ip/SentrySafe-Fire-Chest-1200/21783247) just to keep some random cash monies and documents/savings bonds/kiddie pron. Then I saw some cooler ones with a door and keypad that look pretty baller.

Side note, do any of you own a handgun? I've been considering buying one just to have one and occasionally take it to a range for recreational shooting. The above is confirmation that I've been living in the Midwest too long.

Lukey, I actually stopped watching Mad Men this season. I didn't like the first 30 minutes of the premier episode and I have not been back. Most of that is because the show has not been generating any buzz and I have heard from others that the show is terrible.

I had a nice Memorial Day weekend back in PA. Caught an Iron Pigs game with the family on Saturday evening. It was fucking cold and windy. Played golf with my Dad on Sunday in Easton. Again, it was cold and windy. Probably the second windiest round of golf that I've ever played. Coupled with my allergies, it made for a tough round. I actually hit the ball well on the front nine, but the back nine was terrible. Putting was tough all round because the wind would blow the ball. My sister and brother-in-law returned to DC with me Monday evening and hung out for a couple days.

Hafer - I have you penciled in for the month of June next year. I believe it's an easy 3 hour train ride to Munich from Strasbourg. (see what I did there). We can make Hanna and baby H watch each other while the grownups drink beer/wine and generally be irresponsible. Also, good news on your possible move to Britania. Get on it. We'll meet on the weekends in Amsterdam/Hamburg-er.

The weather here has been shitty for the last 2 weeks and continues to be shitty, except for today. I had to bring in all our crops (cilantro and jalepenos - ole!) because of frost threat. Today is sunny and in the 60s but we expect to be in the 40s/50s with rain Wednesday to Sunday. It's the worst. And the Germans are super cranky -- they hate it when they can't go out to the beer gardens.

The Champions League final was very good. Pins and needles the whole way through! My favorite chant is "Super Bayern Super Bayern Hey Hey!" I got to see a guy knocked down and punched and kicked by about 6 dudes right before the game started. I have no idea why.

Friday, got out of work early and checked out a new bar called Bru. Was home by 5p and hung out with the family. We watched Snitch (not bad, not great).

Saturday, watched B while Ali hit the gym. Had some solid father daughter time all morning. Watched the Champions League final -- VERY SOLID.

Sunday, again watched B. Then, played some golf at JC Melrose. Took 2 mulligans off the tee (1 on the front, 1 on the back) and shot an 83. The McHales came over for takeout and we watched the Heat game.

Monday, watched a bunch of the new Arrested Development shows. Took B out to Frankford Hall with the family. Went to bed early last night.

The weekend went by too quickly!

This coming weekend, I have a beerfest on Friday night. I shan't be drinking until then.

I went to the range on Monday evening to hit balls for the first time this year. I hit the ball surprisingly well, which of course means that I will be terrible when I play a round with my Dad on Sunday. My injured finger is still sore, so it has forced me to have a weak right-handed grip, which is actually good for me.

In the getting old sucks department, I have developed shin splints from playing basketball twice a week on back to back nights. I didn't work out this past week leading up to basketball in hopes that the rest would help. I didn't have any problems last night, but I was gimping around the court tonight. It sucked.

It's hundreds of pieces of wood and about a thousand screws. I got the main swing beam and superstructure erected last night with the help of my dad. Now I just need to slowly add the walls and the floors. I have a deadline to get this completed by June 2nd, when Jen's friends are coming over for a playdate.

so my boss asked if i would be interested in moving to europe at some point, not necessarily in the near future, but at some point. i said yup. she said she'd let the head dude know. going abroad is pretty much the fast track to getting ahead here and they are very good at making moves happen for people who are interested due to their large need in various places across the globe. because az is half english-half sweedish, they have a huge presence in europe, especially ingle-land. caruso has already green lighted a move so, who knows, it could happen. knowing my luck, we'd move the week after heaves, kate, baby and cat move back.

also, was told today that, during my last review period, i was actually nominated for promotion but it was shot down by hr due to a promotion freeze. hooray! more reason to hate hr, the most useless department in every company.

Probably not but I've never heard someone refer to them as picnic tables here. Maybe picnic tables are designed after beer garden tables. After all, the oldest beer garden has been around since ~1800. But the thing with beer gardens is that they really are like large picnic areas. Bringing your own drinks is prohibited, but food is allowed. The best practice is to bring food for your lunch or dinner, and then order some beers from the beer garden. Besides, the food at the beer garden isn't that great and is overpriced. Some people even bring elaborate picnic sets of dishes and table cloths.

Thanks btw for your Germany travel suggestions I asked about earlier. I forwarded it along to my cousin so the rest is up to him and the wife.

Also, is it faux pas to call a "beer garden table" a "picnic table" in Germany? Seems like they're basically the same design. After beer pong, you should plan on teaching them to funnel beers.

the next mayor of Bethlehem, PA.

My Dad has been working tirelessly the last few months on the campaign of one of the mayoral candidates of Bethlehem. Yesterday the people voted and my dad's guy unofficially won in a tight race. My dad would become an adviser to the mayor, which is good because it should give him something to do for the next 8 years, and more importantly help bring in some money and health benefits until full retirement kicks in. It's nice to hear he'll have some stability coming his way.

Xbox One - an odd name if you ask me. Though doubling the number as some suggested (360 - 720? - 1440? - 2880? - infinity?) wasn't going to work either. Aside from that, ZOMG!!!! AMAZING!!!! Well, I'm excited but I'm not sure when I should dive into a new console given how well Microsoft's last release went (RROD). Surely they've been extra careful/thorough this time around. Then there's the issue that I can't walk into a store over here and get a US version. So I'd have to pick it up with all it's goodies when I'm in the States. I might just wait a year or two when our return to the US is a little more certain. Sigh.

Google images has some nice examples, but here's one:

http://blog.oktoberfesthaus.com/2012/07/21/beer-garden-tables/

It's about 8 ft long and 2 ft wide. They are exactly what you'd find in the local beer gardens. Perfect for beer ponging.

Yep, I understand all that about Game of Thrones. I guess I'm just craving more of the whole story. I may have to read the books at some point.

There's no doubt I'll get hammered and want to get hammered by the time Saturday rolls around. I just need a day or two to reboot and get back into that mindset. I'm pretty sure it was not humanly possible to drink more last year than I did. But I think they lost because they let Chelsea come back and then fell 2 shots back in PKs. Nevertheless, IIIIII will not let you down.

what is a beer garden table? *insert link to picture here*

champions league final is an AMAZING reason to get hammered. how dare you not want to. your home team is playing. again. you MUST. the only reason they lost last year is because you, personally, didn't drink enough. don't let munich down again.

wrt game of thrones, just wait. even more characters come into play over the next 2 books. the good news is that some of the older characters die off, thereby keeping the total # somewhat manageable. if you can't keep track, just visit the wiki.

i'd also be all about a 2 hour version of the show. if they wanted to really capture everything in the books they'd have to do that. as it stands now, they are really cutting/changing/simplifying certain story lines to make things fit. it hasn't really been that drastic up until this season. but the story lines keeping getting more and more complex and interwoven as things progress so i guess it's a necessity.

Howdy everyone!

Another 4 day work week here in Germany. Yesterday was a holiday for whatever reason. I was out the last 4 nights. The only real late night was poker night on Sunday. I finished in the first position that got no money (3rd). I think I can improve next time. Friday and Saturday we went out to dinner for Burgers and then Ribs. Last night we caught up on 4 weeks of Game of Thrones at a friend's who has Sky Atlantic (aka the HBO of Europe). I am pooped.

My only complaint about Game of Thrones is there's a ton of characters and everyone is doing their own thing...meaning you only get 4-5 minute snippets of each...meaning it seems like nothing big is happening. I wish the characters would converge to some degree, or make the show 2 hours per episode.

We have our first of 6 birthing class coming up this Thursday. In week 32+ this should take us to about game time. I would have preferred taking a one-time full day thinger, but that wasn't an option for us. Every Thursday it is. In preparation, we watched a free birth class series on a baby website. I decided I have no interest in looking down while the baby is tearing its way out. I am also interested to see if the Germans make the partner hold the leg or if two midwives are assigned for the deed. Any tips on what to pack for the hospital? Laptop with movies/tv. Check. Phone charger. Check. Yahtzee. Possible check.

Champions League finale on Saturday. I am not looking forward to getting hammered but there's no way around it.

We are buying a beer garden table this weekend for our balcony. I am also going to use it to introduce the Germans to the world of beer pong. Can. not. wait!

Jono - stay safe in tornado ally.

This weekend is shaping up to be just as good: dinner and drinks with a friend on Friday; golf with the great Mr. Gushue Saturday morning, followed by dinner with my parents and Rena's at night. Sunday will be spent in NY at the Yankees game with co-workers and my brother.

Ups and downs this weekend:

Down:
Golf was cancelled Saturday morning due to weather
Up:
Got to visit Baby B with the family. Way too many women in one place.
Down:
Went to Sister-in-laws place Saturday afternoon for Mother's Day barbecue. The house is the opposite of baby proof so I spent the next 6 hours watching at least one kid like a hawk so they wouldn't maim themselves. The part that pissed me off the most was that I thought we went there so that Jen could see her Mom and sister. Well her Mom and sister spent the whole fucking time in the kitchen, which is definitely where the kids could not be. This family drives me apeshit. They just float through life. Nobody ever stops to think about things. We should have just headed over right before dinner so we wouldn't have to kill ourselves babysitting.
Up:
Fantastic Mother's day brunch with my family on Sunday at Farmer's Daughter. This is the restaurant attached to the reception hall that Maurer is getting married at. The food was excellent and the place looks really nice. Really looking forward to this wedding now. I also realized that the hotel rooms are in the same building as the reception hall. This wedding will be a shitshow.
Down:
Jen's mom came back to our house after brunch
Up:
Watched golf. Got to watch Sergio's fantastic implosion.
Down:
Jen's Mom is staying all week.
Up:
I leave Wed. morning for Manassas and then Arlington. My sister is graduating on Saturday and we are going out to dinner down there. So I don't come back until Saturday night.

weekend was spent driving to and from rehoboth beach. caruso scheduled an overnight with the pseudo sisters + pseudo mom. the weather was alright on saturday so we walked around town, took hanna to the water and let her put her toes in, and the ladies did some shopping. to end the night, i went out to dogfish with the pseudos while caruso and the mom stayed in. sunday was crap weather so we up and left. i got a speeding ticket on the way back home at one of the shit towns you drive through (the cop, who totally played high school football although he never played but was still on the team so he's awesome, was right by the 35 mph sign coming into town and i didn't slow down fast enough). i hope he dies of cancer. other than that, the trip was fine. i made caruso dinner and called it a day.

tomorrow, i'm off to denver for work until thursday. i plan on drinking lots of beer. should be fun.

The weekend was ok. The weather was shitty. But we did gorge on fondue meat on Saturday night. I worked on the baby's room and our stroller was delivered. It took me about 3 hours to put up a curtain rod in the baby's room that should have taken 30 minutes. There's nothing less fun than drilling 4 holes through the hardest material in the world -- German concrete.

Friday:

Went up to the burbs and went to dinner with my parents for mothers day. It was B, Ali, Tom, and me making the trip from Center City. Tommy and I had 3 beers beforehand to take the edge off and it was a nice dinner. We had to pry Bridget away from my mom with a crowbar.

Saturday:

We were supposed to play golf but canceled due to the weather. That sucked. I hung out with B and cleaned up the apartment in advance of a visit from the Reinert family. It was great to see Tony and Jen's little ones. Then we made a brief appearance at Ryan's housewarming party in Cherry Hill. Capped off the night watching Place in the Pines.

Sunday:

I watched B while Ali got pampered (nails done). Then we all watched golf/Phillies/NBA games for way too many hours. Capped off the weekend with Chili's to Go.

Back to work this week. I am already looking forward to the weekend. I get a break this week though -- I am taking off on Wed to go to the Dr's with B and then to golf with my Dad and some of his buddies on Wednesday afternoon.

The weather out here is fantastic.

Tonight is week 36 of the season. Next week, if necessary, is week 37 the championship week and fun bowling for everyone else. This is the final week of the second half of the season. I agree with Vert. The season has been extremely long. If we had not been fighting for the title, I would have lost interest too.

We are 97-43. With 4 games up for grabs, we have a shot at 100 wins (which would be cool). At one point, we won 18 games in a row. Of course, we are playing a fantastic team tonight and we will be getting 35-40 pins.

I currently have a 182 average (176 1st half; 189 second half). High series of the year is a 694. If I am in the 600s again tonight, our team is going to be in good shape. I just need to show up with my strike ball tonight.

Poyser has been an animal since November. He took his initial 170 average into the low 190s. He has been average well over 200 a game since late December.

Ugh, you're still bowling. Last week was our last week and I couldn't wait for it to be over. My league started the last week of August. It goes on forever and I was sick of it.

Since we weren't in the team portion, the last week is an individual tournament. I bowled 215-215 my first two games and basically had first place wrapped up (45 pin handicap per game). Well I managed a paltry 130 thanks to three 7-10 splits and missing three other 7 pin spare shots. I ended up finishing 8th.

Two points:

1. Team Gushue is much closer to trying this than team Heavener. I would propose the Gushues try that out while they have the chance.
2. From a practical standpoint - Why would you need to suck off the puke and not just suck on a clean paci and give the baby germs that way? Or just baby bird the little sucker.

Kate's bday was a day of eating/drinking. Breakfast, beer gartening, and then mexican. And now I am fat.

The good news is that I've starting running again, basically 18 months after my feet started giving me problems. My goal is to be faster than my baby when she's born. Hopefully my feet hold up.

speaking of sniffy et al, they told us they're expecting another youngin', due date is the friday before turkey day. if this goes to plan, they'll probably want us to go to bawston for thanksgiving. eff that noise. i am not going anywhere near an airport during the holidays unless it's to go someplace warm and tropical. last i checked, boston in november did not qualify.

sniffy also brought up the prospect of going to the psu/syracuse game. i don't want to go but i know tony and i talked about it when they came down a few weeks ago. it'd be nice to see the stadium and the team but that's a lot of traveling.

in two weeks i go to denver for work (regional sales meeting). i really like denver and am looking forward to drinking lots of good craft beers. also, sales people are fun/insane. apparently, a group of sales reps are planning on taking advantage of colorado's new marijuana laws. this did not make their senior directors very happy. way to talk openly about this, idiots.

joo, there is a chance i'm going to have to go to our national sales meeting the week of your bparty. if that's the case i may have to be a vag and bail. it's way too early to tell one way or the other, but i wanted to let you know ahead of time. if i can't go, i'll be sure to give one of the kunckleheads money to get you a lappy from a really hot guy.

Well neither of the two big round 1 series are turning out how I thought. ZBo was apparently just saving himself for the playoffs and the Griz are showing they know how to play like a team. I thought the Clips would be tough to beat since CP is clearly the best player on the court.

Denver has decided to let the Warriors control the pace of the game which has been their downfall. I thought GS was dunzo after they lost DLee but they found a way to transform their team without him (Barnes has REALLY stepped up). Also, letting Curry shoot at will isn't going to get you W's.

The NBA playoffs are finally getting good. There was a lot of bad blood in those games last night. I watched a lot of those games because the Phillies fell behind BIG early.

We are trying to get into Rectify (new IFC show, producers of Breaking Bad) and it is beautifully shot. It is also VERY slow. I am 2 eps in and may bow out after ep 3 if things don't pick up a little bit.

The weather is just fantastic here in Philly. I can't wait to get outside and grab some lunch.

TPG is having a Cinco party on Saturday (smart). I cannot wait to get my marg on.

My boss' boss "retired" 2 weeks ago, but everyone suspects he was asked to pack his bags. He was VP to the general counsel and head of the patent department. And 1 of 7 Americans. But he was also a bit of an ass, and for that reason I'm glad to see him go. Plus, he was going to retire in a few years anyways, and this will allow me to get to know his replacement before we move back to the states.

Other than that, work is moving along -- business as usual.

Friday we went to a beer garden located on a lake in the English Garden. I ended up waiting for Kate to finish work and we went together. Spectacular weather before gale force winds moved in. We speedily rode our bikes home.

Saturday we lazily got up and made some pancakes. This was a treat since the only way you get pancakes here is if you make them yourself. Then, as we were leaving our apartment to go to a hardware shop, we stumbled on a neighborhood wide flea market. Everyone was selling their shit on the street. So we walked around our apartment complex first and scored some things for our little one, made some new friends, and then we ventured out into the city to get more things we might but probably don't need, for cheap!! We got home and relaxed the rest of the night as Kate was pooped.

Sunday funday we did our Spring cleaning. Cleaned the apartment and moved our sweaters into the Keller and moved our summer stuff into our closets. It's good to have that done.

Tomorrow is a holiday so I'm off for the day. Unfortunately, I got suckered into helping a co-worker move -- she asked me today. I'm not 100% happy about it, but she did promise to take all the helpers out to a beer garden. I will quickly swallow my annoyance with delicious golden beer.

Those who are going to the fall weddings, do you think you'll most probably arrive the eve prior to the wedding? I would think yes, but wanted to check since it will impact how/when I come into town. We will be looking at flights this weekend to see how exactly things will work. I may also need to be picked up from an airport (Newark/Joo or Dulles/Vic) depending on how things go.

It's lovely biergarten weather today. Kate has to work until 7:00 so I'll probably head to one for a couple hours while she finishes up.

Penn State's starting quarterback race has gotten a little bit clearer, at least for the time being.

Multiple sources informed Lions247 on Wednesday afternoon that sophomore Steven Bench has been granted his release from the program and will seek a transfer.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Bench, of Camilla, Ga., had the most experience of any of the Nittany Lions' four quarterbacks this spring, when he evenly split the first-team practice repetitions with junior-college transfer Tyler Ferguson, also a sophomore. The quarterbacks had nearly equal stats in the Blue-White Game, both completing 9 of 15 passes. Ferguson had two touchdown passes and Bench had one.

Bench played in two games as a true freshman last season, getting the majority of his work early in the loss at Virginia when starter Matt McGloin was temporarily sidelined with a minor injury. He finished 2-of-8 for 12 yards passing and added 18 yards rushing on three attempts.

The Nittany Lions will enter 2013 with two scholarship quarterbacks -- Ferguson and incoming freshman Christian Hackenberg, a Top 247 prospect -- and run-on freshmen Austin Whipple and D.J. Crook, who enrolled in January, and Jack Seymour, who will arrive this summer.

here's a behind the scenes summary...

Bench met with Bill O'Brien on Tuesday to discuss his future with Penn State. There O'Brien basically told him that Tyler Ferguson was his guy coming out of spring and that Ferguson was going to get the reps against Christian Hackenberg when he arrives this summer. O'Brien was apparently pretty up front with him, which Bench respected, but basically said he wasn't going to get much time moving forward.

From what I've been told, there will be no limitations on his impending transfer and Bench will likely go back down South to find a new home. Due to the NCAA sanctions in place, Bench will be eligible to play right away when he arrives at his new school.

There was to be a team meeting at 4:30 to discuss this, among other things, as Bench was a fairly popular figure on the squad.

landed another recruit last night (3rd wr in a week). bob is doing work.

Middletown (Del.) wide receiver Chris Godwin was one of the top uncommitted skill players remaining in the Northeast, but on Tuesday he decided to take his name off of the market.

"I committed to Penn State," he said. "I think it came to me recently, I kind of realized that it was the best place for me. I feel real comfortable there with the coaching staff and I feel like that's my best opportunity to develop as a player and as a person.

"As far as the commitment, I called Coach O'Brien and we talked for a little bit. I told him that I wanted to be a Nittany Lion and he got really excited. He said that it made his day. He said he was happy to have me as a part of their family."

The Nittany Lions picked up commitments from wide receivers Troy Apke and DeAndre Thompkins in the span of a week, and Godwin did not want to wait any longer.

"I think it was one of those things where I didn't want to miss out on a good opportunity," said Godwin. "I felt that I was ready to make the decision. I think the coaching staff played a big part in my decision as well as the rest of the people there.

"It was a great fit for me as far as the offense goes as far as being a receiver and the quarterback situation is going to be great there, too."

Godwin was the Delaware Gatorade State Player of the Year in 2012, catching 42 balls for 834 yards and 12 touchdowns. He added five rushing touchdowns as well. He was all-state on both sides of the ball and led team to a state title as a junior.

The 6-foot-1, 197-pound rising senior carries a 90 rating from 247Sports, making him a four-star prospect. He is ranked as the No. 27 wideout nationally and the top player in Delaware. He is considered the No. 283 prospect nationally by the 247Composite and the No. 36 wide receiver nationally.

The baby g-unit is doing well. We were at the Doc's on Monday and she is back up to her birth weight. We dont have to go back until May 11th.

As for sleep, it's going great. I got 8.5 hours last night and woke up before my alarm went off. Of course, I fell asleep at 11p but it was great. So refreshing. The baby is waking up once at night to feed. Ali feeds her at 11-12a and then again at 3:30a. Then she is good to go until 745-8a. She sleeps without issue otherwise. I am off the hook because my breasts do not make milk.

I just threw a picture of lil' Bridget on Google+. She is awesome.

If/when Ali decides to go to work, I will do my fair share of bottle feeding.

Look at the 10th image down. The Mom "spills" the soda but it is actually a perfect soda pour.

My weekend was laid back. On Friday, we listened to the police scanner of the Boston bomber arrest and watched the Phillies game. Police scanners are incredible.

On Saturday, I hit the driving range and did some grocery shopping. We hung out and played with the baby. I love The Ben Show and Nathan for You. These were two solid comedy central shows. I want to get into that show Top of the Lake but Ali couldnt get into the first 5 minutes so that idea got shot down. We watched a bunch of crappy NBA games too (with the exception of GS v DEN).

Sunday, more of the same. We went up to the burbs to see my parents and Pat/Tom. Pat came back home for the weekend. I hit some golf ball wiffle balls around the backyard. Watched more NBA games, more boredom. Watched the Phillies too -- they stink.

I read The Big Miss. It was a fast read but still pretty interesting. I recommend it to golf fans.

I got Tiger 14 on xbox. The graphics stink. However, the elimination of the caddy is fantastic. I got the Masters edition and it has the original Augusta course as well as the par 3 course. Both were super fun. I played it some and will tinker with it more this summer.

I beat Bioshock Infinite on the PC. It is one of the best games I ever played -- without question. I cannot recommend it enough. The game is art.

Bowling team is still in first by 2 1/2 games. We are bowling the 2nd place team on Wednesday. We may bowl this team 3 times over the next 4 weeks (wed - scheduled; 2nd half championship; and total championship). We are doing OK. I got my average up to 182 but had a bad last week. It will be back to 181 on Wednesday.

I am hoping to golf again this weekend. Sneaking out early on Saturday with my bro/Dad. Follow that up with some brunch. I have been hitting the ball really well the past month and have my handicap down to 15. I got the Orange Whip trainer and Ledbetter Swing setter. I am swinging every other day in the basement of my apartment. It is very grimy down there and looks like the set of a Saw movie. I also got the radar sensor for my swing speed (http://www.amazon.com/Sports-Sensors-Swing-Speed-Radar/dp/B00124P7SI). I am going to try to get some more distance with my clubs ... I am hoping this helps that out.

Sorry for rambling.

Friday evening, I attended Vic's bowl-o-rama birthday bash. He, shockingly, got hammered and was bowling 130's. He then showed up to Hanna's 1st bday late, in non-mint condition. As Hafer mentioned, it was a nice get together. If it had been a couple degrees warmer, it would have been perfect.

After not being sick all fall/winter, I, unfortunately, woke up today with a wicked sore throat. I was hoping that it was just allergies, but that is clearly not the case. I'm blaming Hafer for diseasing me up.

Ich hoffe ihr hattet ein schönes Wochenende.

We took it easy on Friday night in preparation of an early and late Saturday. On Saturday we woke up super early to go to a flea market. We were on the look out for anything baby related (stroller, rocking chair, etc.). The conditions were miserable. Cold, rainy and muddy. But we did manage to pick up a rocking chair for 60 euro. The cheapest we found in the stores was 300, so I basically made 240 euro on Saturday. We got back to the apartment, ate lunch and took naps. Then I went off to join 6 other lads for a stag party, while Kate some some of the girl counterparts went out for Mexican and bowling (but not Mexican bowling). We did a pub crawl and stopped at a KFC about 3 hours into the crawl for dinner. We absolutely destroyed 6 buckets of chicken. Then it was back to the beers. The bachelor and I were the last men standing at 4am. I had a late start to Sunday and didn't really get moving until after 1:00. Late afternoon on Sunday we went to a friend's to watch the first 3 episodes of Game of Thrones. It seems a lot of work is being done reminding us who everyone is and introducing some new characters. It's been slow going. I'm glad to hear episode 4 is an improvement.

nice little weekend. friday, we cleaned the house, mowed the lawn, and got stuff ready for saturday. what happened saturday you ask? well, we had hanna's local 1st bday party. bok, lukey and a few others came by for a bbq/orgy... but mostly bbq. it was fun except for me getting sick and having to go to bed early. sunday, caruso's uncle came down and fixed our banister and installed our baby gates. hanna also took her first 2 steps... ALLEGEDLY. only caruso witnessed the act so i'm calling BS. night ended with game of thrones, which i really enjoyed. they're finally getting through the slow parts of the 3rd book to the good stuff. things should be picking up nicely.

I assume the wife's extended family is taking care of the Poland part of the trip, but I just wanted to note that I hear a lot of good things about Krakow. The city is on the top of my places to visit in Poland.

As far as modes of travel go, there may be a point where it's better to fly rather than taking the train from a cost perspective. But from a logistics point of view, nothing beats getting to the train station 20 minutes before departure and jumping on the train without having to lug bags and kids through security. Trains can get really expensive when you closer to the travel date. So my advice is to book early (now or as soon as they know the travel dates). I did a mock search for travel from Wilhelmshave to Munchen on this site ( http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query2.exe/en?rt=1& ) for July 2 for 2 adults and 2 kids ages 6-14. I was surprised to find a ticket for 1st class with certain seating/cancellation restrictions for 79 EUR. This is a fantastic price for 4 people!

I am ashamed to admit that Hafer might actually have more information on touristy things to do in Munich from his time spent here during his baby making voyage. I kind of find Munich boring from a tourist perspective, but I can recommend a few things.

*Mike's bike tour of Munich could be good, especially for the kids. http://www.mikesbiketours.com/
* Neuschwanstein Castle - it's about an hour to an hour and a half south of the city. There are day passes available for the train to get there and back (for 4 people, it would be about 34 EUR total). Apparently, Mike's also provides tours for this.
*Glockenspiel and Frauenkirchen in center city (Marienplatz) - by far the most popular tourist attraction in Munich.
*Zoo - I've never been but seems to have good online reviews. I've heard it's decent.
*Deutsches Museum is a technology museum. If you look closely enough to the eagles on the roof of the building, you will find these came from the Nazis (cute!). I plan on going this spring/summer, but Hafer has been here and could chime in if he likes.
*BMW factory tour - neat if you like factories. The kids might like it. The tour is about 1.5-2 hours long. The factory is right at Olympia Park too, home of the 1972 Olympic games.
*Nymphenburg Palace - the summer home of the Bavarian monarchy. I hear, as far as palaces go, it's boring.
*Munich Residenz - the every day palace of the Bavarian monarchy. It's ok. It depends how excited they get about palaces. It's in the center of the city though, making it close to the Glockenspiel.
*Other museums that Hafer has been to but I haven't. Some art museums.
*Beer garden - it's a must. There is the Chinese Tower beer garden in the English Garden (largest public park in Europe). It's the most touristy of all beer gardens. There's also the Hirschau beer garden in the English Garden that has a playground for the kids. Or they can take a day trip to the Andechs Monastery and drink delicious beer there. Again, 34 EUR train day pass would be the best option.

There's some more information on some of the aforementioned places on trip advisor.

Yo Heaves, my cousin and his family are making a trip to Germany/Poland in July (two adults our age, two young kids). The Poland leg is to meet his wife's extended family. While in Germany they're looking to hit up Munich and Berlin. Any suggestions on things to do/places to see? Also, they're looking into traveling north to Wilhelmshaven (northern port town where my Mom's family is from) for an overnight stay. I assume a train would the best means of transport...?

back from san antonio. the city itself is nice. by city i mean the riverwalk area. everything else is urban sprawl and nothingness. if you do go, don't plan on staying for more than a day or 2. that's how long it'll take you to explore the aforementioned area.

caruso enjoyed her science thing. i got hammered multiple nights and enjoyed "sleeping in". it sucks that i am now programmed to wake up at 7 no matter what. children ruin everything.

speaking of kids, joe, how's it going?

the masters were very enjoyable (as always). even caruso watched yesterday's back 9... for a few minutes.

Hafer neglected to mention that he was graced with my presence on Saturday for lunch. Jen, Claire, and I headed down to Frederick, MD for a bachelorette party that Jen went to. We stopped by the Hafer compound on our way there. This was by far the highlight of the day for me, enjoying his lovely patio and the gorgeous purple deadnettle that is in bloom. The rest of the day was spent hanging out in a hotel room with Claire. It is no fun hanging out with a 7 month old in a hotel room. Sunday morning we drove back, but before we left we stopped at sheetz where I got a breakfast sandwich with a fried egg on it. This was delicious.

we went down to dc to do the cherry blossom loop with hanna. we ended up walking around 4.2 miles and enjoyed ourselves. we went early so as to avoid the crowds which was an awesome decision on our part. by the time we were ready to leave there were swarms of asians and indians everywhere. sooooooo annoying.

this morning i found that some hoodlum child took the (old shitty) ipod from my car (but nothing else) over night. more reason to hate children.

unlike joe and maurer, i really enjoyed the college games this weekend. the final should be pretty solid.

on wednesday, caruso and i head to san antonio for our first no baby vacation. the rents are watching hanna until saturday when we return. we are going with another couple we know from caruso's work. the ladies are attending a science teacher thinger (all expenses paid) so the other husband and i get to drink all day for free and enjoy the warm weather. our hotel is right on the riverwalk so it should be fun.

boobs.

Now that the spring weather seems to have arrived for good, I had a nice weekend. I met a couple friends out in the city Saturday evening to watch the Final Four games. Takeaway from the evening: If I can find people to accompany me, I definitely need to go out more often. The fresh-out-of-college girls were out in full force and looking nice. Highlight of the night, younger girl, in non-mint condition, sitting on ground waiting for metro train at the end of night turns and pukes on the floor of the metro station. She then removed her leather jacket and put it over puke. She then proceeded to put her head down on jacket and begin to pass out. She didn't make it on the train when it arrived ...

Without discussing the episode/no spoilers: I was underwhelmed with last night's Mad Men. I am still pumped that the show is back.

I posted that I was having a big meeting with my GM on Thursday, and it went extremely well.

Essentially, I am going to be getting my own team of people, that I get to help build, to grow the HVAC business in NJ. The pleasant surprise of the meeting is that my GM (who is now more of an Area manager because he also runs a recently acquire 8-location company in the NY Metro area) plans on having me create another team in the NYC / Long Island territory and run both, making me like a regional sales manager. Essentially, I will be the youngest sales manager in the company who runs a territory this big. The next person close to my age runs a sales division that may be about half, if not less. Nothing huge, but something small for me to be proud of.

Just wanted to give an update.

You = free labor. Why would they pay someone to hold the leg when you are there. Just sack up and hold the leg. Also I recommend against leaning down to get a better look. You will be able to see a baby pop out of the hole you stick your dick in with no problems from a standing location.

I need to drive down to Manassas tonight for a morning meeting. I found out this afternoon at work how much of a dump this place is so now I'm not really looking forward to it.

yes, they do have nurses but apparently they only dispatch one per room unless there is need for more. the setup is you on one leg, the nurse on the other and the doc playing catcher. oh, and the doc goes in and out of the room if there are other people about to poop out kids too. this happened during our go time (we were racing against 2 other couples - we came in second - i beat caruso accordingly). maybe in europe, with its wonderful socialized medicine, you'll have 30 nurses in the room and you'll be able to sit back and eat a sandwich while kate pushes away. that'd be awesome.

I am with Jono - I am busy and lazy at the same time so I use twitter more than the forum.

Wedding planning is going well still. B-party is all set (I think). I cannot believe I am going to be married in 6 months. Insane. I don't think I'll be able to sleep at all on the 4th. My birthday and it will be the day before my wedding! Zoinks!

There may be some big (good) developments for me at work. I went to my HQ last week in Newport News (flight got cancelled so I had to drive 7 hrs.) and the meetings went very well and some of the senior VP's that were there called my GM and said I was a stud. More to come after a major meeting with my boss tomorrow AM.

Vic - Glad to see the planning is going well!

Jono - It's cool to see you still being challenged at work. I remember hearing about your frustrations with your last gig so it is good to see that it isn't dull and you are where you want to be.

Joe soon to be called "Daddy". - !!!!!! How excited are your parents since they are about to become Grandparents?

Lastly; got my tax return for this year. I broke my wrist doing somersaults. BONUS.

Is the winner the first person to look down or the first person to kiss the other person while holding the legs (i.e., gay birthing chicken)?

I had no idea I'd be holding a leg. My innocent view of the process has been grossly altered. Don't they have nurses for that sort of thing? Sheesh!I probably don't want to look down but probably will. Right?

Yep, another 7 weeks until Bayern is the champ again.

you and whoever else is holding the other leg can play birthing chicken.

Considering I can't watch a broken ankle video, I'd say witnessing a birth isn't in the cards for me. That, and I don't plan on having kids.

the thing i found funniest about the whole birthing experience was how differently it plays out in real life vs as shown in pop culture. i had assumed that i would be at caruso's head chilling, telling her to keep pushing and all that while chugging a beer. welp, that's not even close to what actually goes down. you are asked to hold a leg and essentially stand over your lady's lady parts while she goes to town. you get quite a view from this vantage point as one would expect. the big question is whether to look down or not.

heaves, the wedding is locked in for Achtober 25, so do what you gotta do. Wedding planning is a pain in the ass but for the most part, all the major aspects of the wedding have been set up. Theres still a lot to take care of but all the critical parts are in place. Bachelor party discussions will start up pretty soon so everyone start checking your schedules and figure out what months/weeks work best.

Jono, glad to hear your dad got that test and actually got diagnosed so he can get proper treatment. I actually did the test over a year ago and slept like a baby through the night. The results came in that I was breathing in the 90-97% range (of what I should be at). I told them that I know for a fact that I stop breathing in my sleep but they said they cant do anything if they don’t have the data to back it up. Now Im in quite a predicament because I don’t know if my insurance will cover another study being done. Ill be checking with them in the near future. Lukey and others have suggested if I have another done to go in sloshed cuz apparently that’s when it’s the worst for me.

Jono, do you have a favorite nba team? From your post I take it you don’t. I say you get them lin/yao jerseys cuz that would be awesome. If you don’t like that idea, then look on ebay for some Olajuwon/Sampson jerseys. Twin Towers Baby!!!!

Joey & Heaves, the important question to know with regards to the baby is whether or not you plan to watch the birth? I guess I was really uninformed when it came to what all this entails because I was educated on it the other day. I always thought I wanted to watch my child/children being born but now I am second guessing that one.

As Hafer mentioned, other than work and wedding planning, been doing quite a bit of traveling. Over the past few months Ive done trips to Seattle/Vancouver, Snowshoe (West Virginia), Vegas, Tampa/Honduras/Belize/Mexico. I highly recommend making a trip to Seattle/Vancouver if you ever get a chance. The food is amazing in each and Vancouver is just such a neat city. I wish we had had more time so we could have also shot over to Whistler.

joe, welcome to the last few weeks. caruso had an easy pregnancy up until 2 weeks before she pooped out hanna. then, as you described with ali, everything became a chore. don't worry, it's almost over... but it's important to know that it's the EASY part that's almost over. things get real very quickly.

jono, hanna is 27 days away from her 1st bday. she's standing, trying to climb up/down steps, and speed crawling everywhere. she's walking with her push walker and if you hold her hands. she's much better at it than she was even just a few weeks ago. it'll be any time now before she stars walking all over on her own.

heaves, how are you not fluent yet? ich bin something. i am also super jealous of your 27 nugget meal. sounds delicious.

i think vic is dead or on another one of his random trips to xxxxx.

tv - we started watching the americans. very good show. i guess the writer used to work for the cia so he laces the show with some pretty authentic lines/story arcs. we finished watching down-town abbey a few weeks back. caruso loved it (as she does all english shows). i didn't mind it. the best actor is the grandmother from hook. she pwns.

Good to hear from you and that all is well.

Our Turkey trip was excellent. We saw so much neat stuff, but our favorite thing was the culinary walking tour we did on day 2. We literally ate from 9:30 to 4:00 and nearly every bite was delicious. We did not like the pickled date and some of the cheeses we tried. We saw plenty of mosques, the cotton castle of Pummakale and the ancient roman/greek ruins of Ephesus. It was great seeing all that, but I'm a big fan of lazy vacations and this was not one of them. Photos coming soon for those interested.

This past 4-day holiday weekend was a mix of restful and busy.

- Thursday I stayed up super late to watch some very boring MM games.

- Friday, I managed to put together our baby furniture. That took all day. As a reward, I talked Kate into letting me purchase 40 chicken nuggets (with a coupon) to help wash down a bottle of red. Kate helped by putting away 13 nuggets. I took care of the rest. I have no regrets and surprisingly felt fine the next day.

- Saturday we braved the chaos of the grocery store that comes with a 4 day holiday weekend. Grocery stores are always closed on Sundays and holidays. So Saturday was the only day people could buy food here over a 4 day span. Crazy!! We also picked up a rug for the baby's room. I spent the rest of the day finishing up taxes, opening up a new US bank account with CITbank with better interest rates, and other various chores. We ended the night by watching Syracuse stomp on Marquette (with the volume down) while finishing the Pacific.

- Sunday we had Easter dinner with the Brits. They roasted some chickens and not hams, so I had a lot to be thankful for. Wait, wrong holiday. In any case, it was delicious.

- Monday I went into the alps for some skiing instead of studying German and uploading vacation photos like originally planned. It's about time to pack up the skis until next season.

Kate and baby are doing really well. I think we are exactly 12 weeks behind baby G and so we should be starting the 3rd trimester on baby G's due date. It's taking forever! Seriously, time could not be going any slower from the "come on baby, get here already" point of view. I can't imagine what the wait is like for the Gushues. 10 days!

We will be having guests starting July 11 through August 15. First Kate's parents for 2 weeks, then mine for 2 more, and finally Kate's sisters coming in for 1 week. It's looking more and more like Kate will be not working after the baby. At least not while we are in Germany. The best part is that the German government may pay her maternity leave for a year. It's not a ton, but it's enough to make us reconsider her working part time and paying for part time day care. If all goes according to plan, I'm hoping to make it back for both weddings.

Vic, what's your official wedding date? I would like to know so I can start looking at tickets and make a pitch to my boss for time off for two weddings.

Just lazy.
I have no excuse for not posting. I keep up with all of you fools but mostly via Twitter. I read posts while I poop, too, so there's that. Being blocked at work really puts a damper on things. Anyway, here are some things I will now talk about:

- Easter! It was a good time other than going to the in-laws. That was likely the last major holiday that we won't spend in our own house. I know the boys don't know any better now, but I would've done Easter up a lot differently. Also, no more fucking ham! Awful, awful main course. The worst. Will did have a ton of fun, but lacks some egg hunting game. His strategy of picking an egg, stopping, opening it, eating the candy, putting it back together and then putting it in his basket netted him far, far less eggs than his cousins. He seemed not to mind. Boy can eat some candy/cookies/sweets.

- Work. It is a challenge. I have not worked this hard in a while. It's not the hours so much as it is the not knowing what the hell you're doing but till being required to figure it out and do it. I am learning a ton but a lot is expected. The latest adventure was establishing a testing environment in our lab to test Precision Timing (IEEE 1588v2). Part of that required me to spend some time setting up 2 GPS antennas on our roof! I did not die and the testing is ongoing. We're hoping we can turn it into a white paper and maybe present at a conference in the next 6-12 months. I'm also now working on a WiMax/220Mhz/900MHz radio project, again, literally learning this stuff on the fly. Engineering!

- This is apropros of nothing, other than a random/weird/funny story, but my dad went in for a sleep test (he's had apnea-like symptoms for a while now but never diagnosed/tested) and only ended up sleeping for 17 minutes over the 10 hours studied! He was nervous or something and couldn't sleep. But that's not the craziest part. He ended up stopping breathing 20 times (!!!!) in those 17 minutes. I'm super glad he's getting this done. Reminded me of living with Vic.

- Sports! Somehow, I might win or finish in the "money" (iPads, plane tickets, etc.) for our work charity bracket pool despite not watching 1 full game of college bball this year. If we end up with Louisville beating Michigan in the finals, I think I'm golden. Silly Kansans & their dumb Kansas/KSU fandom. I missed the leg shattering and am happy I did. I cannot seek out the video b/c I am a pussy. I have looked at a photo, though. I assume most of you guys saw it live and I am sorry.

- So pumped for the NBA Playoffs, you guys. That Heat win streak was so great. All in on Lebron these days. I want to get Will and Lewis some jerseys for this summer but can't figure out which route to go. Thunder jerseys b/c of the Midwest connection? Will & Lew as KD and Russ? That's my best idea, but I'm open to suggestions.

- TV stuff: We recently have plowed through Downton Abbey and House of Cards. Downtown was good for about 1.5 seasons and then I got super bored with it for the last 1.5 seasons. I'm not sure it's a great binge watching show. House of Cards (Netflix original) was almost too (something) for me. I can't think of the word, but it made me feel something that wasn't happy/invested/engaged. However, enough happened that I will watch Season 2. Spacey is a little hammy in it but goodness!- Robin Wright is hot! We;re about start up Happy Endings and if it sucks, IT IS YOUR FAULT, JOE!

- Movies. Ha!

Random:
- You're so close Joey G!
- Hafer, your little lady is nearly 1. Time does not ove slowly. Do you all have a big bash planned for her? Is she walking yet? I only ask b/c you said she was pulling up and being super mobile like 2 months ago (I think).
- Heaves, your German adventures thrill me. Especially the Americanized ones like eating 40 Chicken McNuggets w/ your pregnant wife. Is Kate feeling well these days? Probably not after that meal, but still...
- Vic, how is the wedding planning? I'd ask Evan but last time he checked in, they were about set and it sounded like smooth sailing (save for a few in-law tongue lashings).

Per usual, it is now 11 and I am tired and have fallen asleep at least a few times already tonight. I am a 60 year old man suddenly. This is probably rambly and I apologize.

I am pumped for these Sweet 16 games over the next couple days. Every region, save the West, is stacked with great games. That being said, Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Reggie Miller are absolutely horrendous doing college games. They have absolutely no clue about any of the college teams and players (including the top seeds). They just make sit there and make asinine statements (example of Smith's expert analysis: "the overall theme that you see is that you have to make people do different things differently"). It's an affront to fans of college basketball to force these guys upon us (I do enjoy Smith and Barkley on NBA coverage). On the other hand, Steve Kerr seems well-prepared and does a good job.

I think the battery is bad, so I bought this bad boy to confirm http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1B10E77087

I figured I needed a battery charger anyway so I will try deep cycling the battery before replacing it. The charger could have been useful a couple of months ago when my Acura had battery problems. I decided to spend a couple extra bucks and get one with a automatic deep cycle function.

Brian Lee's wedding was this past weekend, so that made for a nice, boozy time. It could have been a little warmer, but otherwise everything else was really nice.

However, the wedding did mean that I missed most of the basketball on Friday and Saturday. Thankfully, one of the games I missed was the FGCU-Gtown game. I streamed some of it on my phone (that March Madness Live app is awesome), but watching that entire game would have driven me crazy.

Is this thing happening? I assume it is but Weary has gone dark on me and I've received no info on team assignments. Can someone send me the info so I can follow along?

Infineon is lame. I receive no stock options. I do get bonuses based on company performance, which is not based by any means on personal performance. Hafer- glad to hear you are hanging in strong at AZ.

yesterday was investor day at az. in addition to the layoffs announced on monday, they check raised with another 2300 heads in the sales/marketing groups. as you can imagine, the stock price shot up, which is awesome because our long term incentive stocks vest on tuesday. giggity.

bucknell played like poop yesterday. the game was easily winnable. oh well, my brackets are crap.

I remember when we were down an OK street in DC and you freaked out when I pulled out my cell phone.

You may be a bit of one...

We definitely had some uncomfortable moments today. More so because we walked through some less up-and-up areas (due to google maps) (just for a couple of blocks off the beaten path), and other times were simply swarmed with people and not knowing how thievish people are here. All in all, daylight is your friend and there wasn't much to worry about. Just some uneasiness due to the unknown.

But we got to see lots and just go at the city at our own pace. We are really looking forward to tomorrow. We are doing a food walk from 9:30-3:00 during which we just eat and snack and eat some more. So far the food has been delicious and much better than what we get in Germany as far as German food v. Turkish food.

Calling it quits for the night. Pooped! Lights out.

so is this how his pool works:

if your team wins and covers you advance. if your team wins but doesn't cover you lose your team. on the flip-side, if your team loses but covers you take the winning team.

is that right?

I went to both places on my honeymoon.

I may be a pussy but I was definitely scared at different points walking around Turkey. It was just a little bit too Muslim for me. Also, Ali was accused of being an Armenian in one of their markets (she is 25% Armenian). This was a bit disconcerting because Turkey committed genocide against Armenia.

I got royally fucked in my win it all pool. My teams are UCLA, Oregon, Valpo, and KState.

We are off to Turkey tomorrow. Istanbul for 4 nights and Kusadasi for 3 nights. It's our last big trip before the baby. It should be pretty cool.
