Date Posted: 16:41:17 09/20/12 Thu From a fantasy perspective, I abhor these Thursday NFL games. Given injuries, it makes it more difficult to start an optimal lineup. Has anyone seen the reviews for the Judge Dredd movie? I was shocked to find that they are off the charts good. Heaves, there it is pretty common for players to leave the football team for personal reasons. It is just magnified now with our lack of players. It is absolutely ludicrous that teams will be able to recruit our current players after this season. They are not supposed to be in contact during the season. |

I can't imagine them being as good, as accurate, as populated as google maps. I'm not sure if I want to give that up since it's even more so important over here to have the best navigation possible. Though I would like to get my hands on some of the other features, maps could be a dealbreaker. |

The defense was gassed in the 3rd quarter during those long drives. Mr Robinson looks pretty good. Should be exciting watching what he does this year. |

Date Posted: 04:18:24 09/19/12 Wed My Dad told me the other day that part of the NCAA sanctions on PSU is that players will again have the opportunity to transfer next summer until classes start (like this past summer without restrictions). I get why that option was given to players this past summer, but why next off season? My Dad said he heard Robinson is still getting calls about transferring. Also, I've been meaning to ask, whats up with the 3 players that remain enrolled at PSU but left the team for "personal reasons"? Maybe this is typical and I never noticed until now. |

"Long term, this may result in a move for our family b/c now we are in a location that is inconvenient for my work travel and for William & Lewis' daycare. However, if that happens it will be > 1 year from now." ...does NOT mean moving out of the KC area. What I meant is that where we currently live is not convenient any longer and that we would likely move across town/the city. My bad. Had I stayed in my current company, I would've been required to move to keep moving up. While that is not entirely a bad thing, it is something I did not want to do at the moment. |

Definitely something in writing for your notice, like Hafer said. HR will want something from you for their file as far as date of notice given and date of departure. The letter will take care of that. I walked in to my manager's office, handed him a letter of resignation, and we discussed what was going on. He then forwarded the letter to HR and circulated it to the necessary peoples (the partners). Enjoy the last mindless, carefree 2.5 weeks! |

Date Posted: 16:17:40 09/17/12 Mon jono, congrats on the new gig. a simple letter (nothing more than a few sentences) to your manager is sufficient for 2 weeks notice. you can also ask to schedule a quick sit down with the dude and tell him to his/her face. my weekend was spent driving to bethany beach, de. the weather was very nice and we had a good time. my family used to go to bb all the time so it was kind of cool taking the spawn child to the place i grew up (over many summers). hanna was a big fan of the sand and loved the waves/water (she laughed quite a bit when we threw her in the water). in other news, i found out i have shingles!!! fun!!! this all started a few days ago when i started to develop these nice little clusters of red bumps on my chest, side, and back. i managed to sneak into my doc's office today where i was told the good news. hooray. fortunately for me, they aren't too itchy and should be gone in a week or so. the bigger concern is trying to make sure hanna doesn't get c-pox from me. that would be kind of lame. i'm not sure if i should work from home this week or not. i mean, technically, i'm contagious but the route of transmission for shingles is similar to the hiv (skin/skin contact isn't enough, you need to exchange juice). i guess that means no butt sex at work. darn. |

Date Posted: 15:48:58 09/17/12 Mon I have a new job. I have not yet officially accepted and I have not yet told my current employer and I have not yet set a start date, but I have a new job. I am a work zombie at the moment. Officially, I will be starting as a Staff Electrical Engineer at Burns & McDonnell sometime in October. The goal is to get my PE and become what they call a Project Manager (which is what I interviewed for). I have been hired into the Electrical Transmission & Distribution group, which is the fastest growing, busiest division within the company. I will be making more money (w/ the potential to make LOTS more money due to their insane year-end bonus structure) and will actually be doing some real f'ing engineering which is very, very exciting to me. Being in the consulting world and dealing with billable hours is also something new for this dude. I am planning on October 5 being my last day at CTL, meaning that I give my two weeks notice this Friday. I have to do some research on this because I have no idea what this entails. A phone call? Something in writing? Whatever. I will then have the following week to be home for my sister's wedding and not worry about dumb strike duty in Iowa. Then I will have a week off (probably) and start Monday, 10/22 (probably). I couldn't care less about my current job at this point, but being a stand-up dude, I will keep working hard and properly handing off my stuff to the appropriate individuals. Long term, this may result in a move for our family b/c now we are in a location that is inconvenient for my work travel and for William & Lewis' daycare. However, if that happens it will be > 1 year from now. I am a happy dude. Unrelated: you all should be receiving some snail mail announcing the birth of Lewis (even you Heaves, all the way over there in Germany). So, look out for those. |

Date Posted: 15:31:47 09/13/12 Thu when my company acquired Qwest Communications, it picked up a 13K-employee union consisting of a lot of the customer-facing job disciplines that you'd encounter with a telecom company (customer service reps, technicians who come to your house to install/fix service, etc.). Well, the union contract for those 13K employees is set to expire on 10/6/12. If they strike, which it is looking more and more like they will, other non-represented employees of the company are supposed to fill in for them so customers only see minimal impact. In other words, I have been assigned to strike duty. Should this union strike on 10/6/12, I am required to report to West Des Moines, IA and work 12-hour days for 6 days a week until the strike is resolved! I am unclear of what my job will be, but from what I can currently glean, I will be one of those technicians who goes to people's houses to fix/install things! I couldn't be less qualified! I knew this was a possibility (almost inevitable considering how huge this union is and how much help will be required to reduce the impact to customers) but now that it is becoming more of a reality, Amy & I could not be more pissed. I really, really hope they resolve this dispute and sign a fucking contract before 10/6. |

Date Posted: 08:18:29 09/11/12 Tue I didn't do a whole lot while Kate was gone. We watch most of our tv shows together, so I couldn't go forward on that (e.g., Friday Night Lights). I had downloaded some History Channel documentaries back in July since I love learning about history, wars, etc. I dove into the Rise and Fall of Rome since (1) I've always been interested in Roman and Greek history and (2) the Germans dominated the Romans and eventually led to their demise, along with the political corruption and over-extension of their empire. I have a bunch of WWI and WWII documentaries to watch too but figured I'd travel through time in chronological order. I went out a few times with some expats I met here. Got super drunk one night. Played some Batman. German is one tough language to learn. The grammar alone is on a whole other level than English. And the pronunciation is difficult too... a lot of hocking and Aaachting sounds. Vic would be a natural! It's just going slowly. I am starting to pick up things a little more quickly, but there's a long way to go. I will be proficient by the time you visit. The game is easy to watch. I have Tivo connected to my parents cable and my slingbox connected to my Tivo. I can watch TV by signing into my slingbox account on my computer. Then, I can either watch on my computer screen, or connect a DVI to VGA cable to my computer/tv to output the video to my TV. I can remotely control the Tivo through a GUI on my computer screen to change channels and navigate through all the usual Tivo menus, so I can either watch live tv or output a recorded show. At 6:00pm on a Saturday, I can start the PSU game. |

Looking at the product sheet they call them "step up featuers". Make sure you will use them or they will be a waste. I was of the opinion that I could hook up a roku or apple tv at some point in the future. This is the equivalent to getting a car with built in gps. It costs more and gets out of date sooner. I'm still on a pretty nice career track at my current employer, but there's been enough (crappy) changes over the past 2-3 years that it's not making me really excited to continue to build equity there. I could make decent amounts of money and be promoted more, and I'm on track to do that, but I really, really don't like what I'm doing (and what I would be doing going forward if I continue on this track). I really, really want to get into technical design engineering and work in that environment, and around here, Burns & Mac is the best place to do it. I applied for a few positions and then ended up calling me on something totally different. Had a phone interview a few weeks ago and then had the in-person yesterday. I assume they will call some references now. I will know more by the end of next week. Date Posted: 07:36:54 09/07/12 Fri Got a call from Jen yesterday afternoon telling me that our main TV stopped working. This is an 8 year old 52" Toshiba DLP TV. At the time it was top of the line and cost over 3k. Looking back I can't believe I spent that much on a TV. I get home to investigate the issue, hoping that the bulb had blown. Check the bulb and it looks fine, but there is a bad noise coming out of the TV. After a little googling I determined that the color wheel failed. This thing spins at 9000 rpm. A replacement part looks like it will cost a couple hundred bucks, and involve a tricky replacement procedure. Plus I'm not guaranteed that is the problem. So I research TVs for an hour since I am not up to date on TV technology. Luckily all the big box stores are running Labor Day sales and have some decent deals. Long story short I ran over to Best Buy and picked up this bad boy http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+55%22+Class+-+LED+-+1080p+-+120Hz+-+3D+-+HDTV/4810943.p;jsessionid=087C73CEE973CD0DC7D383DD0AD9BC73.bbolsp-app02-13?id=1218532169275&skuId=4810943&st=lg%20class&cp=1&lp=2 Since I already had a big HD tv, not a huge difference from what I had. But I did try out the 3d since this comes with glasses (no batteries). It works better than I expected, but it's not life changing. Might look into renting a 3d movie or two some day. |

Date Posted: 10:04:00 09/04/12 Tue i agree with a lot of what lukey says. here are my thoughts: 1) belton needs to learn how to carry a football. his early fumble results from his awful form. i'd say he keeps 2 pts of contact on the ball 75% of the time and really loves running with his arm way out away from his body. he's a fumble machine in the making. they need to really push dukes and lynch to develop. no idea why dukes didn't see any touches (he was DESTROYING people on special teams). if they can't find a backup/complement to belton we're screwed. 2) mcgloin stinks. 3) the new offense is exciting to watch. from all i've read, they didn't show a lot on saturday, simply because they're still learning everything, which probably contributed to the crap showing after the half. because they weren't doing too much and/or stretching the field (see 1 & 2) the defense could adapt and crowd the line. 4) i'm really excited by our wrs and tes (late 4th qt drops aside). 5) our "strength" let us down on saturday. the dline/lbs stunk. our sack for the day occurred just behind the line. they did nothing all game. when we did send people they were easily picked up. roof needs to get shit figured out fast. 6) stephon morris totally faked his injury. way to get burned. 7) our returners need to learn how to take a knee. 8) our kicking game is awful. final impressions: i am excited to see how the offense develops over the season. i think, true to his word, bob adapted things to suit our players (pass heavy, some running thrown in to keep them honest). our wrs/tes are the strength of the team. i just hope we keep hackenburg since he seemingly knows how to run an offense. |

The only detail to be worked out yet is which days I'll be going and if I'll be taking any time off from work to do so (probably yes). Joe - at this point, I'm assuming you decided to forgo this year and possibly join the fray that may come next year. Let me know if that is or is not the case. |

Date Posted: 10:36:04 09/03/12 Mon I hope everyone has enjoyed their holiday weekend; I've done a whole bunch of nothing. First, I have been super impressed with how BOB has handed the shit storm in which he has found himself. That being said, some thoughts on the PSU game: - I think we would have won with a gameplan from the JoePa regime. - We have very little depth to begin with, but those injuries to Belton and Morris, for whom we essentially have no backups, were brutal. - Holy fuck, we have have a dearth of talent at the skill positions on offense. Belton played well, but he still plays more like a third down back rather than an every down back. We desperately need to recruit a top tier rb. - I thought BOB called too many passes, especially when we were ahead. We were having success running the ball and the pass blocking was a little suspect. - McGloin looks much more composed and doesn't scare me to death every time he is back to pass the ball (amazing what competent coaching can do); however, he is still a very limited qb. - Our dline and lbs did not dominate like I had hoped. We definitely do not have a dominant dlineman on this year's squad to disrupt the line of scrimmage. - The Ted Roof experience was, as predicted, an unmitigated disaster. If Tom Bradley had been our D Coordinator, we definitely would not have blown that 14-3 lead. I do not understand why we kept ineffectively blitzing, thus exposing the weakest unit on our team [the secondary], especially after losing Morris. It was sickening watching them go 93 yards in the 4th qtr. to go up 10 after we had them pinned on the 7. - Having our most important defensive player, a 237 pound linebacker nonetheless, was one of the dumbest coaching decisions that I have ever witnessed in all my years of watching football. In not shocking news, it was an epic failure. If he continues to return kicks, I will be leading the "Although we can't fire him because of his guaranteed 9 year contract, I hope BOB gets fed up and returns to the NFL bandwagon." That made me miss the days the not having anyone coach special teams. - I don't like the names on the jerseys and hope that it is just a 1 year thing. I am ok with it if the players really lobbied for their. If not, the decision to do so just really irritates me. - Get that (required) B1G logo off the field and our jerseys - we don't even put our own logo at midfield. Positives from Sat.: I got Weenie-Beenie before the game. -- Did anyone watch the Posnanski interview with Costas this past week? I thought Posnanski was fair to PSU and JoePa. I will definitely read the book at some point. Along with the lack of closets, another thing that I found to be weird in Europe was the lack of screens on windows. Heaves, are you getting ready for Oktoberfest? |

We still need one for me an for coats. Huge waste of money and effort. Typically, apartments don't come with kitchens either (appliances, sinks, counter tops and cabinets). Tenants will buy them, install them and take them with the to the next place, or try to sell them to the next tenant or throw them away. Luckily, being in a new apartment the builder decided to include the kitchens, which is a growing trend. It all seems crazy to me and fairly ass-backwards. |

I'm not sure if that's what you were referring to. But basically they do nothing of interest. We like our apartment. Earlier in the summer, Dom Brown stopped in one day and Jeff's dad recognized him. They struck up a conversation and Dom ended up coming back over the next few weeks when new Retro Jordans were released and gave Jeff's dad a signed ball for the store. He went on a rehab stint in Florida sometime in July I think and texted Jeff's dad to send him a few pairs. Well two weeks ago he call Jeff's dad again as says he wants the two latest releases and asks if he wants to drive to Philly to drop them off. So Sunday, Jeff, his dad and Jeff's little bro head down to Dom's place right near Sugarhouse and chat with him for a bit after dropping off the Jordans. He mentioned that Desean Jackson and McCoy also live there and Jefe said he spotted Jason Babin as they were leaving. He gave Jeff his number and told him to call him whenever he wants tickets. Oddly enough, he only wears a size 11. |

Date Posted: 10:31:10 08/27/12 Mon We are at Welfenstrasse 80 in Haidhausen. Since the building is new, street view will show you an empty lot where my building now stands. But the regular satellite view will show the building if you zoom in far enough (but not so far that you enter street view (duh)). When in the general vicinity, you can also enter in the coordinates 48.121991,11.592134 and a green arrow should point to the apartment. The windows do a pretty good job of blocking the sound (triple pane glass and whatnot). You can barely hear them when you are standing at the windows that face towards them, and can't hear them at all when you step away. Tv watching is difficult when a train is going past with the windows open. This past Friday I did a mini pub crawl in Haidhausen. I found my new favorite German beer, which is an IPA. It's called Crew Ale. http://www.crewale.de/shop We drank their stock dry. Then we left to go to an Irish pub to have a Guiness. I felt terrible on Saturday, but I got up to do some errands before coming back and taking a nap. Sunday was a waste because I had to clean and organize the apartment. |

Date Posted: 21:21:24 08/18/12 Sat jono, try and get some rest there bud. although i guess newborn tired is the good tired, much like the i spent all night at the og tired. so, yesterday lulu had surgery to remove a fibroid from her uterus. I guess they are super common amongst females but hers was growing at an abnormally aggressive pace. Her obgyn wasnt recommending surgery but at the same time she wasnt really advising against it either. In the end she chose to have it removed because shes super cautious/paranoid about stuff like that. Plus due to how aggressively it was growing, there really is no way to determine if it is benign other than removing it. Her doctor said that after removal there is about a 50% chance that these things will start growing back so we got our fingers crossed. Other than that, not much going on except being super busy with work. A few of the upper echelon guys at our company have left lately so I am taking on additional work and responsibilities in the meantime to help fill the void. Obviously the hope is to put in the work now and get rewarded for it down the line. again, fingers crossed. Got a Myrtle beach trip coming up in the beginning of Sept that I am looking forward to. My golf game is really coming around so the timing is perfect. Definitely need improvements to my chipping and putting though. Especially my 4-9 foot putts. The last round I played, I made 1 out of 7 or 8 from that range and id say 2 or 3 of those misses were from 4 or 5 feet. It was pretty dreadful. Heaves, I doubt I can do oktoberfest due to a combination of all of the above. We are definitely going to be planning a visit though, but its likely going to be some point next year. If I do change my mind and do oktoberfest, I will prob be coming solo. Obviously if I go that route I will need to decide soon so I will let you know. |

Date Posted: 06:23:57 08/17/12 Fri Thanks for the jinx, guys!! So the Germans are quite strict on this and Kate and I both took breathalizers last night as a result of this. Luckily, we both dominated and our numbers were withing the legal limit (though we think Kate's was dangerously close to being over based on the look the officer gave her -- maybe borderline over!). The BAC limit is 0.05%, so even less than the US! We don't know our exact numbers but the result was them letting us go with a warning and they told us it's better after a few drinks to walk our bikes home. They were super nice about it, so in that regard we were lucky. They also could tell we were new to the system based on the date of my residence card. |

Date Posted: 12:29:42 08/16/12 Thu Lewis news: he's doing very well and gaining the appropriate amount of weight. We get another check-up next Thursday and if all goes well, it's all good until his 2 month check-up. We've had 3 good nights and 2 bad nights but even the good nights provide a lot less sleep than normal. My parents were here and now Amy's mom is around so at least we can pawn him off if we get too exhausted. the hardest part was last weekend because William was here and thus, not at daycare. He just lays in bed for 12 hours recharging and comes tearing out at 7am ready to suck up as much as whatever energy you have left. He's the best, but that is proving to be the biggest challenge. With all of that being said, I'd get Amy knocked up again immediately (if we could and she'd let me) and have more and more kids. It's just the best. I am not ready to go back to work, which I do on Monday. I much prefer staying home. |

I think her title is international program/project manager or something fancy like that. This Sunday she leaves me to do a European tour with her boss who will be flying over from Denver. They start in London, then to Paris, Brussels, Frankfort, Zurich, Munich, Linz, and Prague. Should take about 2 weeks and I'm jealous. Happy for her though. Date Posted: 17:36:57 08/15/12 Wed Today was a public holiday so I was off from work work, but not off from domestic work. Most of the afternoon was spent installing a ceiling fan and tinkering with my bike. The ceilings are concrete and I needed to use special anchors that could hold 35+ lbs. My assistant gave me her tool box with a variety of anchors, none of which were labeled (for concrete or weight). So after playing around for a bit, I finally was able to settle on ones that I hoped would not give way one night while we are sleeping. Fingers crossed! My bike tires rub up against my brake pads. I was able to adjust the front, but it looks like my back tires, or just the rims, are warped. I learned a new term today, my rim may be "out of true." Hopefully this is the case rather than a new tire needed. Exciting stuff, I'm sure. My boss is just started his vacation for the next 2 weeks, so I am on my own. Good stuff! One of the new Americans decided to pack his bags and go back to the States. He was an idiot. Totally unprepared for the cost of the move...made some bad decisions and he decided to go back to DC to a law firm to recoup his losses. Good news is that no one liked him so we are not too upset to see him go. They will start interviewing pretty soon to fill the opening if anyone is interested. BBQ was ok this past weekend. I expected more and I got less. But it was still good. Last Friday, Kate and I got hammered off of the free booze. We still spent 40 euro on cab fare but the booze obviously offset this expense. I don't recall what time we got back to the apartment, but we didn't wake up until 1 pm. Our day was essentially shot since a lot of stores close by 4 pm, or in some cases 2 pm, on Saturdays and motivation was zero. Vic, let me know if you are interested in Oktoberfest this year. |

Thanks to a recommendation from the VertRamp, we did the Glen Onoko Falls hike at Lehigh Gorge outside of Jim Thorpe. It was a really cool hike. Post-Olympic thoughts: - Lochte, when interviewed, seems borderline retarded and comes across as a total douchebag. Definitely worse than Phelps on both accounts. - I would love to see Bolt do the long jump. Man, just from the Olympics, I am sick of all the political ads already. They are going to drive me crazy during football season. Has anyone seen Killer Joe? It's an NC-17 black comedy. It's gotten good reviews and I think the trailer is pretty good: |

Also, IRA allow a lot more diversity in your portfolio than your employer probably allows so that's always nice too. Jono- do you manage your own IRA or do you have a financial services firm looking after it? Things are moving along here in Germany. We really dig our new apartment. Kate had been doing a good job setting things up while I'm at work and we hope to have a finished product by the end of the weekend. All Internet and phone options are up and running. Next up...Xbox! I have a sinus infection which has been sucking the energy out of me. I should be seeing my first German doctor next week. we are both going to try to buy a dirndl (for Kate) and lederhosen (for me) this week since we want to beat the price increase that comes closer to Oktfest. Date Posted: 09:54:04 07/31/12 Tue The Conways are just waiting around for the little man to make his arrival. Amy is pretty miserable and uncomfortable and then 105 degree heat forces us to stay indoors so not too much has been going on over here in Kansas. Will obviously keep you guys updated when the he gets here. Here's hoping it is sooner rather than later. On an unrelated note, the size of BOB's penis also made an appearance in my text messages to my brother-in-law Paul while we were discussing the current PSU situation this weekend. This pretty much confirms the rumor that it is giant. |

Date Posted: 09:27:40 07/30/12 Mon nothing too exciting to report on my end. we had 2 babysitters this weekend so we got to see batman on saturday and have a day out on sunday. lukey, to your question, i loved batman (ditto caruso). i thought it was a great conclusion to the trilogy and like the possibility of joe being robin moving forward. out of the 3 movies, i think the second was the strongest (super gravel voice and all). saturday was huge for the football team. getting the 6 dudes to reconfirm their commitment was huge. ross douglas is a dbag for decommitting... then again, he's from ohio so what do you expect. now if only silas would balls up and announce he's sticking around. lukey, the hotel we stayed in last year on atherton has rooms available for osu weekend. $1099 for the weekend. the patio furniture was delivered this morning. i get to go home and stain it tonight. wee. how was the philly weekend? anything crazy go down? |

Date Posted: 00:06:13 07/30/12 Mon I had a pretty low key weekend. Played some darts on Friday evening and had a personal best 11 run inning in darts baseball. I nerded up board game style Saturday evening. Otherwise, I've just been watching a ton of Olympics (more than I planned). Hafer, there are some rumblings that Redd may stay now, which would be spectacular. In getting all those recruits to reaffirm their commitments this weekend, I'm convinced that BOB has a 16 inch cock. Did anyone watch Erickson bumble his way through Face the Nation this morning? I thought Sara Ganim acquitted herself well on the panel. Bill Rhoden, on the other hand, is a sanctimonious bastard and made Buzz Bissinger seem reasonable. What are everyone's thoughts on the Dark Knight Rises? I thought it was a good, enjoyable movie but that I preferred the previous two Batman movies. I thought this most recent one had some cheesier lines/scenes that were absent in the previous movies. I also think it was a little heavy handed with social commentary. It doesn't help that I loathe Anne Hathaway. I also think that it ran a little long trying to tie all the movies together. After Mark mentioned that Bane's voice sounded like General Grievous, I also couldn't stop thinking about that for the rest of the movie. |

Date Posted: 19:48:39 07/27/12 Fri BOB has been stellar, couldn't agree more. I really think his nfl experience with smaller roster sizes and playing scrappy players will be invaluable moving forward. He also mentioned something about reduced sanctions with exceptional compliance. Hopefully that's true. |

Date Posted: 18:38:10 07/27/12 Fri Sorry for the lack of posting ... without going into a 40 page rant, these NCAA sanctions have had me tilting this week. That being said, I am also extremely disappointed with Erickson, who I think is in way over his head, and the PSU administration. I am wondered about the legal advice they are receiving as well. Jono, I agree with you about BOB - I wasn't fully on board with his hiring, but I think that he has been tremendous this week. On the other hand, that Illinois is a scumbag. I wasn't originally planning on it, but I am now thinking of making a trip up for the Ohio game (1st game of the season). I had a PSU t-shirt on running errands on Monday and Tuesday and I only received nice/sympathetic comments from people - I was pleasantly surprised. |

Date Posted: 21:08:09 07/25/12 Wed No one would blame any Penn State players who wanted to bolt from the program after the NCAA gave them a get-out-of-jail-free card. But a large group of players pledged their loyalty to the Nittany Lions Wednesday in an impressive show of solidarity. More than two dozen players, led by senior running back Michael Zordich and senior linebacker Michael Mauti, gathered to give a statement about their commitment to the team this morning outside the Lasch building. You can watch the event here. “This program was not built by one man and this program is sure as hell not going to get torn down by one man,” Mauti said. "... No sanction, no politician can ever take away what we've got here. None of that is ever going to tear us apart. ... This is what Penn State's all about -- fighting though adversity. And we're going to show up every Saturday and we're going to raise hell." "This is the greatest opportunity a Penn Stater can ever be given," Zordich said. "We have an obligation to Penn State, and we have the ability to fight for not just a team, not just a program, but an entire university." The players did not take questions after the gathering. They also released the following statement as a group: "This team is sticking together. We aren't going anywhere. And we could not be more proud to be Penn Staters now. We look at this as a great opportunity to have the ability to bring back not only a team but an entire university. "This team has taken on more adversity than any team has faced in history which is a testament to our commitment to our team's character, our fans, and our university. One man didn't build this program and one man sure as hell cannot tear it down. This program was built on the backs of the thousands of great men who put on the Penn State uniform. Today it is no different. "No sanction or politician can tear this team apart. No one can take away what this university means to us. We will stick together and create our own legacy. Our loyalty lies only with our teammates, coaches, fans and families. No one else. "It's not going to be easy but we know that we have acquired the strength that we have overcome and we will embrace our anger and burn it as fuel this season. "We can't wait for September 1 and to be back in Beaver Stadium and playing for Penn State in front of the best fans in the nation. We ask everyone to come out, show the support, wear your colors proudly and show that adversity makes the Penn State nation tougher and stronger." Some of the other players present, according to reports, included quarterback Matt McGloin, offensive linemen John Urschel and Matt Stankiewitch and defensive backs Adrian Amos and Stephon Morris. Notable in his absence was star running back Silas Redd, who is reportedly being recruited by USC. Redd is still scheduled to appear at Big Ten media days in Chicago on Thursday. Penn State supporters had to love the loyalty and passion the players showed this morning. The team will need that kind of togetherness to overcome the many obstacles in its way. |

Date Posted: 12:18:57 07/25/12 Wed I have received nothing but sympathy from my peers and colleagues. Personally, I am still my proud of my degree and the opportunities that I was able to capitalize on as a result of the institution. In my opinion, the events that have transpired, while devestating, have no impact on the value with which I place my degree, nor should it, in my opinion. It is still, academically speaking, a GOOD SCHOOL. With any hope, recruiters won't be as myopic as I fear most people are and will still continue to hire many students from there. God forbid, we place value on how the degree was obtained and the academic reputation of the degree-granting institution and not on a tragic incident that had nothing to do with the teachers. |

Date Posted: 14:27:19 07/24/12 Tue i think the biggest change for me is how much i completely loathe espn now. seriously, the network has gone from pretty much the greatest thing ever to complete dogshit. i'm going to try, as much as possible, to completely forego the station. also, my view of my degree and the university itself has not changed. it's my opinion that the acts of the few cannot and has not impacted the greater institution. yes, squawking heads and message board douches like to claim otherwise but, seriously, who cares what they say? most are out to prompt a reaction and/or generate page clicks/revnue. for the most part, they know very little, if anything. no one actually reports the news anymore, they speculate and sensationalize (my main reason for hating espn so much). whatever. |

Date Posted: 13:56:36 07/24/12 Tue Here, at the law firm, reaction has been supportive of me. Everyone here has at least someone in their family that went to PSU. So, everyone is just basically heartbroken over what happened. People have been very sympathetic (thankfully I work with educated/well read individuals). The NCAA was going to sanction PSU. The sanctions are terrible but, at least this way, PSU avoided the death sentence. The death sentence to the football team would have crippled the economy in Happy Valley and all business relying on PSU football. I do not understand the vacating of wins or the $60 million fine. There are talks that the lawsuits against the university could reach $100 million. That is $160 million that the university is going to pay out because of this sex abuse scandal. Because of this, I will not be donating any money to PSU until it is clear that this money will not be used to pay for these crimes. I am really embarrassed about my degree now. The name of the school is forever tainted. I have boxed up my PSU gear and will not be wearing it. I just don't want to get the dirty looks that would be coming along with that. I want the Paterno family to shut the fuck up. I am sick of them stating that we don't know all the facts, etc. Ok, fine. We do not have all the facts but the Paterno family has not provided any additional information that would show Paterno in a positive light. The family name, once something they could all be proud of and something that would open doors for them, is now disgraced and something that will be held against them. The motherfuckers in charge ruined the school. This is the third time that this has happened to me - Catholic Church sex abuse scandal, Villanova LSAT reporting scandal, and now PSU. I am really tired of this happening but there is nothing left that can be taken from me. |

Date Posted: 13:08:52 07/24/12 Tue unlike you guys, i seemingly work in a bizzaro world where no one knows about or follows sports. therefore, i had no reaction to deal with from anyone. i heard, almost constantly, from my dad, brother, furman, and my buddy erik, but that's pretty much it. my response has been to up my support of the university. i sent a donation yesterday (complete with wordy slander of the ncaa in the memo line) and just bought some new season tickets for myself (although i will probably not use them this year). who knows if it will help in the long run, i just feel obligated to do something/anything to help out. in conclusion, the ncaa can eat my ass. |
