Got a call from Jen yesterday afternoon telling me that our main TV stopped working. This is an 8 year old 52" Toshiba DLP TV. At the time it was top of the line and cost over 3k. Looking back I can't believe I spent that much on a TV. I get home to investigate the issue, hoping that the bulb had blown. Check the bulb and it looks fine, but there is a bad noise coming out of the TV. After a little googling I determined that the color wheel failed. This thing spins at 9000 rpm. A replacement part looks like it will cost a couple hundred bucks, and involve a tricky replacement procedure. Plus I'm not guaranteed that is the problem. So I research TVs for an hour since I am not up to date on TV technology. Luckily all the big box stores are running Labor Day sales and have some decent deals.

Long story short I ran over to Best Buy and picked up this bad boy http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+55%22+Class+-+LED+-+1080p+-+120Hz+-+3D+-+HDTV/4810943.p;jsessionid=087C73CEE973CD0DC7D383DD0AD9BC73.bbolsp-app02-13?id=1218532169275&skuId=4810943&st=lg%20class&cp=1&lp=2

Since I already had a big HD tv, not a huge difference from what I had. But I did try out the 3d since this comes with glasses (no batteries). It works better than I expected, but it's not life changing. Might look into renting a 3d movie or two some day.
