Tough time thinking but here are some thoughts.

The Freeh Report

I just finished reviewing the report. I did not learn anything in this report that I already did not know. One of the new revelations found in the report is that you can use circumstantial evidence to support conclusions. When conclusions are made in this manner, the person making those conclusions tends to have an agenda.

That being said, I think that it is safe to assume that there were people in positions of power at PSU that did more to cover up the crimes he committed instead of bringing them to light as soon as it came to their attention. No shit. We knew this 10 months ago.

The entire scandal is the result of a monster, lack of leadership, and failure to make a difficult decision to do what is right. The “cover-up” and lack of properly addressing child molestation chargers here is nearly as bad as the crime.

The only thing people like more than building them up into larger than life characters is tearing them down. Am I embarrassed to be associated PSU? Yes. For the rest of our lives, the first thing that people are going to associate with PSU is this child molestation scandal.

I am not a Joe Paterno supporter. I am also not a Joe Paterno hater. He was a damn good football coach and he cared a great deal about PSU. I am not going to call for the renaming of the library or the removal of his statue. Doing so would be a meaningless gesture. It does not repair the lives of the affected children and it does not affect Joe Paterno. You cannot punish the dead.

It is tragic that he wanted to be remembered as a man who made Penn State a better place rather than a good football coach. Now, that will never happen.

In today’s world, opinions are made in seconds and people are too lazy to form an educated opinion. Joe is gone and he will never have an opportunity to change them.
