Is this a joke? The story makes no sense whatsoever. The narrative has no internal logic, the “moral” is unclear, and the plot details seems so oddly chosen that the story seems to have been written during a peyote trip. (The prose is clunky too, but I hate to pile on.) In fact, it reads like one of those random, fill-in-the-blank “Mad Libs” stories that seven-year-olds annoy everyone with on family vacations. A ninja and toothpaste? What does that even mean?

My answers to the two questions asked would be c) and a), but neither question makes much sense. The animals certainly wanted to eat the pineapple, so d) is arguably the best answer for the the first question, even if c) seems more in line with understanding the “plot.” And no character exhibits much “wisdom” at all. The crow is at least a shrewd literary critic, but his guess about the pineapple’s agenda turns out to be wrong. The moose is pointless (and unfunny) comic relief.

The hare, at least, reluctantly agrees to a contest in which he’s an overwhelming favorite and wins handily, though it’s a bit of a stretch to say that this is due to his great wisdom. (I would credit his powerful hind legs.)

The pineapple’s motivation is so murky and behavior so inexplicable that it’s impossible to even know what “wisdom” would mean in this bizarre universe of nonlinear action.

There is no owl.
