1. Heard on a podcast recently that in the NFL, un-drafted free agents get signed for as little as $500. $500!!! I had no idea how this worked and I am astounded that it is that low. Of course, if they make the team they will make more money, but still. If teams are trying to sign the same FA, it can get bid up. An example given on the pod was Tony Romo, who signed as an un-drafted FA for $25K.

2. Been listening and reading The Basketball Jones a lot. I know I'm way late to the party, but if you like the NBA, you need to check out what these dudes are doing. Anyway, the did a thing on their Friday pod comparing current NBA players to original Mario Kart players (inspired by this: http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1124656/AtGu-BnCMAIhC5C.jpg). Here is my list (some of which I may or may not have stolen from the TBJ discussion) & I welcome all other lists:

- Princess Peach: Lebron, b/c he's a bitch.
- Donkey Kong, Jr.: Melo, b/c he is a little pudgy/heavy but brings the pain like his dad (DK/Bernard King)
- Bowser: Dwight Howard, b/c he's an athletic giant who is also the worst/hated by everyone
- Koopa Troopa: Kobe, b/c of the hard shell exterior with a workmanlike dedication who keeps coming and coming (analogous to the KT shell that comes to get you after you think you've killed the KT). In this example, Michael Jordan would be King Koopa.
- Mario: This was the hardest one, IMO. Derrick Rose is logically the fit b/c what they both lack in intelligence (Mario:Italian plumber::Derrick Rose:invalidated SAT score) they make up for in niceness, determination, ball-so-hard-ness and likability.
- Luigi: Durant, for obvious reasons with the main one being they are pretty much the exact same person in body type and athletic ability (think Super Mario 2 Luigi) as well as second-fiddle-ness (both in being the #2 to Lebron in terms of best NBA players alive, and the sometimes #2 option behind Westbrook on OKC)
- Toad: Chris Paul, b/c he's quick & little. Would also accept tony Parker or Ty Lawson or Ricky Rubio here.
- Yoshi: Chris Bosh, b/c he looks exactly like a dinosaur.
