OOC Board

The OOC board is for OOC (out of character) discussions, etc. This is for the players, not the characters. Miscellaneous roleplay is okay I suppose, but here is where you can meet the people behind the characters.

I agree with Meridian about using dice to determine bombing.
Unfortunately, in the examples of good role-playing we were just discussing, it is true, as you said, that not everyone is willing to put the effort into it. My (personal) solution to powerplaying, is that either (1) I powerplay back..which would not be a very good option in this case, OR (2) I just ignore it. This is a very simple solution for those of us fighting somone who doesn't want to put in the effort. Just ignore that certain post and politely point out that they were power-playing you, so you ignored them. If they continue it, you can just turn your character into a different situation, powerplaying should likely be the last resort.
Those people that did post will little detail will probably not like being ignored and will (hopefully) improve their posts.

Hmm, I have been thinking about the 'Ranks' suggestion and here is how I see it.
The Federation is the original colony, it is more organized, and more over-powering. They are DEFINATELY going to have ranks because power is important to them, and the higher your rank, the higher your power.
The Alliance are trying to break away from that. I see them as the rough-and-tumble, 'free spirit' types that don't want to be ruled by anyone, but will join together to free themselves from the Federation. They obviously need a leader of some sorts, if only for organization, but in my mind, rebels would not stand to be 'classed' A president, yes, a leader on an expedition, yes, but not much more specific than that. (hmm.. hard to explain..lets try again)
Because the rebels are 'free-spirits' they want their views to be just as important as anyone elses. Ranks would cause the assumption that they are less important that the higher officals.
The way I see it, these two forces are fighting each other, so obviously their ideas, and their principles must differ, in that case, their systems should differ too.
This is just the way I see the two sides, but my view may be different from everyone elses. (shrug)

Ok, so what about training? That would all depend on age and/or experience.
Raven is among the older characters, she has alot of experience in different fields, but, as anyone, she is not perfect at everything.
I play in Camelot Castle, one of my characters takes on students. I have noticed (not particularly my students, but watching other teachers as well) that the students tend to do everything right. This problem is similar to the powerplay discussion, in that the character has to make sacrfices. In this case, you would probably have to let your character become embarrassed and actually (gasp!) do a few things wrong.

Another point I wanted to bring up, is if there is a limit on our technology. From what I have gathered, this is the year 3052, or slightly later. I don't know exactly what (or if) Morgan is comparing this to any current book/movie about the topic.
The Star Trek, Next Generation series is supposed to take place somewhere around the 2100 (or 2*** something..) according to a trekkie I know.
That would make this game's technology..very advanced.
If you are familiar with the series, you will know what I am speaking of.
Transport beams, holodecks, advanced medical systems etc..
So I guess I was just wondering how far does our technology extend?

An excellent discussion, I must say, and all of these things are important. As for technology, here's my take on the subject:

If a colony ship landed and got stranded on a foreign planet, than we can deduce a few things: We have a partial society, i.e. we have humans, but not necessarily all the techonologically aware humans, but some. We have some technology, to have a space ship and to fly and such things. However, we don't necessarily have the plans or the inventors on board, so we must replicate if we want to build another. Any changes or improvements are based on trial and error, and so takes more time than it would had we had the existing technology to work with. For instance, if you and 5 of your friends were stranded somewhere with your computer, you'd have the computer, but not necessarily the know-how or the supplies to build another, much less improve on the one you've got. Even if one of you or your friends knew how to build computers, you'd still require supplies to build one. Eventually the society would evolve enough to improve and invent, but it would take time, even hundreds of years. And as to the lack of development 400 years ago, that was considered the Dark Ages because everyone just sat around and forgot all they had learned before. The romans had aqueducts and indoor plumbing in about the yeasr 200 or 300, but once the fall of the roman empire, everyone forgot that and was reduced to hauling water for over the next thousand years. They had little to no technological advancement during that time with a few exceptions. After the Dark Ages, when people started thinking and learning, technology increased rapidly.

Enough of my babbling about that. The discussion is going great, I think, is there anything you need my imput on? I have found after running all these games, that it works best if I let you all decide the rules that seem fair. I don't want to restrict too much, but than again, undisciplined RPing can get dangerous. Sorry. No more from me.

Ok... I'm one of those poor slags you always hear about. You know... gets like 300 junk mail messages a DAY in his bloody in-box. I've been offered everything from free (ya right) access to porn pages, ultimate riches, and programs to find anyone anywhere, to automatic weapons, small countries, and the chance to own a water pumping station in China. I get so much crap in fact that I have started saving the craziest messages I get sent. Yesterday I got this one and well... I just HAD to share it with all of you. I removed the poor slot's e-mail address to save him the shame of your taunts but otherwise this is it. Oh, and if you want more crazies like this guy and live in North America try to find Coast to Coast AM on your radio's AM band some night. Its hard to pick up with a small radio or walkman so look hard and you'll be rewarded with insanity, freakyness and the inability to sleep. Clearest I ever got it was in the Ottawa Valley (Canada)if that helps.

I have been glued to the set this morning and ever scince i got home from school and I would like to send my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of everybody affected by this terrible tragedy. First, if you're using Internet Explorer, right click on the image, and than click on Properties. Find the place that says Address(URL), and highlight the image, than push down CTRL and C.
