Subject: Surviving Spouses and VA monthly award.

Gents and Ladies,
Over the last 18-24 months the VA has been redefining who qualifies for surviving spouses, and monthly benefits they may be entitled to. This is of great interest to me and I’m sure many of our members.
I am not a VA Advocate, although I have helped several veterans put together fully developed VA claims, of which all but one received 100% Awards within a few months. I say that only because I can research current VA requirements in some areas. What I don’t have is available time to dedicate to starting another project.
What I hope to see are fellow VSPA members with research skills who are willing to step up and develop a plan to help RIP-111 surviving spouses discover if they qualify under new and developing VA rules.
Many of us aren’t spring-chickens anymore. Perhaps you are concerned what happens when nature takes its course and we men die before our wives (and yes I understand that is not always so as some members can testify how difficult such times are).
A service pension will continue for the spouse. What about spouses of members who have or will die (since 1993) who were 100% rated (Agent Orange, PTSD, Unemployability, and other approved ratings). And what if the surviving spouse was divorced or remarried (all may qualify under certain conditions)? I for one want an answer and hope VSPA will have answers to help point VSPA surviving spouses to benefits their veterans earned in Vietnam and Thailand. We really do care for our own, and for those whom they loved. And yes, I will help get things started.
