Bob, Thanks for your email reply and willingness to help with the Surviving Spouses Benefits project. Shall we begin? I will send some VA links of interest soon.

My very basic research of online VA benefits for Surviving Spouses (SS) discover mostly out dated and contradicting info, or someone’s well intended effort to advise someone else.

My first draft for ‘Surviving Spouses Benefits’ goals (in no set order (as yet)) are:

- To help VSPA SS to obtain veteran earned benefits so as to ease any sudden financial burden due to the loss of a veteran spouse.

- Reach out to new and current VSPA SS, family, and Sisterhood to see if there is a need for VA SS information, and provide basic guidance if requested.

- Develop a VSPA team to compile available online VA SS information to consist of:

- A select number of VSPA members who will help research VA SS Benefits online pages to take notes (and links) of what the VA says it is offering, and who is eligible or qualifies.

- A select number of VSPA Sisterhood members who also are willing to help research VA SS Benefits online pages (we will provide the links to them), take notes on what the VA says it is offering, and who is eligible or qualifies.

- Assisting Sisterhood will be asked to provide a list that Surviving Spouses or members may have thought about, overcome, or in light of what they have read as listed by the VA.

- Develop a SS package for VSPA SS, with easily read, clearly written, info and directions.

- Suggestions how to locate a knowledgeable Advocate (or estate attorney if necessary), to help the SS navigate the VA process qualifying for SS benefits;

- Provide a current updated list of VA Benefits for SS, and a brief but clear summary of the purpose and expectations for what may be presented by that reference.

- Maintain the SS package with ad hoc updates.

- Follow up to see if the VSPA SS package is helping, or if further explanation or assistance is needed, and consider VSPA and Sisterhood members suggestions.

- Scheduled mass-email to VSPA members advising of the availability of VA Benefits for Surviving Spouses, and new changes as to who is eligible.
