Subject: FINAL GUARDMOUNT FOR JIM COSTELLO

FINAL GUARDMOUNT FOR JIM COSTELLO, VSPA LIFE MEMBER #552, NHA TRANG 69-70

Angie called me with the very sad news that Jim stood his final guardmount today, at a time when it was snowing peacefully. He slept comfortably last night without pain and was awake briefly during a prayer before he passed away.

Angie is so thankful to her VSPA family for all of the support she and Jim have received during his battle with cancer and during the VSPA reunion in Colorado Springs. They were full of love and fond memories as they celebrated the reunion long afterwards due to the friends he was able to see and talk to. The stories they shared had Jim laughing from the depths of his heart.

As we grieve for Jim and Angie, know in your hearts that they loved our brotherhood and sisterhood deeply and consistently for many years and many reunions. Plans for a memorial service will be made available at a future date. For now, know that the memorial service will be held for Jim sometime in the late spring or summer due to the inclement weather in Colorado Springs. He will rest in the National Cemetery in Colorado Springs.

The following message from Angie's daughter, Casey, was sent to Jim to express her love and thanks for all that he meant to their family. It represents the first of many loving memorials.

"Papa Jim,
I wish I could find adequate words to tell you how much we love you and how grateful we are that you came into our lives. You loved my mom and reminded her of her own worth when she needed it most. You became a father figure to Britt and I when we thought we’d never have another one. You took on 4 additional grandkids and made them feel as loved as if they were your own flesh and blood. Truly, you saved our family and we will always love you and be so indebted to you. Thank you for all the love, laughter, peace, and healing you brought into our lives.

We love you always."
