Little did I know when I penned this email to Jim and Angie on Wednesday, January 12, that the end was so near to them.

"Dearest Jim and Angie, we send loving greetings from the far north, land of snow and ice and -25 degrees. We are still in Baudette, MN, mainly because we are doing battle with the new furnace that was installed in September but isn’t working properly (or at all). With nighttime lows hovering near minus -25 degrees below zero, it’s been a struggle to keep the house (and us) from freezing up. We feel like pioneers. But, they managed and so will we.

As I write, I am so very aware of how our struggles pale in comparison with what you two are going through. I wish so desperately that some kind words, a loving hug or kind and encouraging words could magically “fix” you, Jim. If that’s all it took, then surely your loving wife, family and many friends would have you up and at ‘em in no time at all. There isn’t a day that goes by without my thoughts racing in your direction. I cherish the many memories of times we shared over the years of our friendship. We have been so lucky, truly. I think you are the luckiest of all to have met and married Angie. She is the best.

I may not have been the most attentive friend you have, but my love for you is most certainly number one. I’m holding your hands from a distance, as you continue your journey. You will be our friend forever. We send our love, Erlyce and Myron"

Jim passed away this morning, January 14.
